One More Chance

Chapter 178: The Revelation

"So what do you want to tell me?" I asked her the moment I sat down across her seat inside the coffee shop. I've already ordered some drinks and pastries before walking to her chosen table.

She lowered her gaze and I frowned when she sighed.

"Sam..." Fidgeting her fingers, she then started opening her mouth but then stopped and sighed again.

"I won't eat you, I'm not a monster, Lucy," I tried to throw a joke to lighten her mood because I noticed how tense she was in her seat.

"I'm sorry for all the things I've done to you..."

I took a deep breath. I didn't expect to hear those words from her.

"If you're only here to apologize, then I forgive you. The damage has been done and there is nothing I can do about it anymore."

"No! You should fix your relationship!"

I blinked in a slight shock when her voice came a little bit louder. She even straightened her body as she looked at me with those big round eyes.

"What are you talking about?" I asked her, wry smile immediately slipped from my lips. "How am I supposed to be able to fix it when it's already been broken --- when you've already broken it?" Even though it sounded like a joke, the sarcasm can still be heard from it. "I'm sorry," She apologized again, looking down at her fingers... again.

"Why don't you just tell me what you want or what you wanted to say so we can already talk it out? Oh, wait--- what do you have this time? Don't tell me you now have a video?"

"No, Sam, actually, I'm here to apologize," I raised an eyebrow. "Sam, it's all my fault," she stated making me stare at her with a deep frown. "Those pictures and all the things I said at the café were all lies."

My mouth dropped in mid-air as I tried to take a deep breath. My mind was still processing what she had said when she added the following lines.

"He didn't cheat on you... Luke didn't really cheat on you, Sam. They were all lies. I just made up those lies and even those photos I gave you that day."

I didn't say anything... well, honestly I couldn't form a word inside my head. To say the shock I felt was an understatement it left me speechless for a moment and I no longer know how to describe it.

"Huh! Have you gone insane?" The first question I blurted out after a few seconds of being in shock.

"I- I'm sorry, I felt so jealous of you and your relationship, and that's what made me do those things."

"Oh, God!" I gulped and then covered my mouth with my hand as my lips began to quiver. Tears formed around my eyes as I remembered how Luke tried to explain himself to me these past few days but I didn't give him the chance to do so. "Those photos... I had a friend who worked at a media company to photoshop them, create a malicious article about them, and then upload them online---"

"Lucy!" I slammed my hands over the table as I yelled her name. I tried to swallow the lump that had formed in my throat but it was so hard when my heart was screaming Luke's name. "How dare you? How could you do this to us?" "I'm sorry, Sam, I know it was all wrong that's why I'm here to make them right---

"To make them right?" I cut her off, narrowing my eyes at her. "Do you hear yourself, right now, huh? How can you make them right when you haven't done anything right in the first place?"

She didn't say anything. She just lowered her head and apologized again for I don't know how many times since earlier... I have already lost count.

"So, tell me... did he ask you to come here and talk to me?"

"No!" she hardly shook her head. "I came here of my own will and he didn't talk to me." she bit her lower lip as she now began to shed tears. "He didn't know I was here and he didn't know that I was going to talk to you." "Then what made you decide to talk to me now? Do you have another plan or a bigger plan to make?"

"No, Sam---"

"Or did your conscience start eating you up?"

"Yes," she took a deep breath. "I owe my father's life to your boyfriend," "What do you mean?" I furrowed my eyebrows as I waited for her answer.

"My father and Luke have been business partners for two years since Luke expanded his business in the Philippines, But two weeks ago Luke discovered that Dad had been embezzling a lot of money from the products they sell and using it in some illegal businesses. His people were also replacing the products they give to clients with substandard materials."

"Luke was so angry when he found out and his anger worsened when he also found out about the things I've done and the lies I've told you. And in payment for everything dad owed him, Luke took dad's shares and because he was addicted to gambling, all he was left with was some money in the bank and the house my mom inherited from her parents."

"And three days later, Dad had a heart attack while driving. He intended to run away and leave with the money he stole from the company, but because he was having a heart attack, he got into an accident the same day. His car collided with a ten-wheeler truck." "Oh, my!" I gasped, my mouth hanging in mid-air in shock. Even though I know what they had done was something we couldn't let go of, somehow I felt pity for her and her Father.novelbin

"Luckily there were policemen on patrol that day, so he was immediately rushed to the hospital. So far he is still in a coma and the doctors have not been able to answer when he will wake up or if he will ever wake up again."

"And what does Luke have to do with it, how and why did you say you owe your father's life to him?"

"Because he paid and is still paying for my father's hospitalization."

I was suddenly at a loss for words at that moment.

"Samantha," I was surprised when she held my hand that was resting on the table tried to take it back but I was stopped by her next words. "Luke loves you more than anything in this world. I know it. He didn't do anything to hurt you and he didn't cheat on you... he never did when he was away. It's all my fault, Sam, so I'm the one to blame."

"Yeah, it's all your fault and you are to blame for what happened to our relationship," I replied nonchalantly, taking my hand out of her grip.

"And there is one more thing you should know about him, I mean, about what happened to him when he was in the Middle East," "Why? What happened to him?"

"He got into an accident when he was there---"

"Wait--- What?" my eyes widened as I straightened my seat. "What do you mean he had an accident? What happened to him?"

"Well, he was helping his staff carry the newly delivered items up to the fifth floor using the construction hoist, but they were already on the fourth floor when the cable of the lift they were traveling on suddenly broke. And they fall off quickly due to the weight." "Oh, my God!" I exclaimed, I felt my heart jump out of my chest as I imagined how he fell that day.

"They were immediately rushed to the nearest hospital but sad to say two of his men died while Luke had a broken leg and a rib on his left side and worst, he got into a temporary coma for a week."

"Oh, my God!" I felt my world suddenly crushed down my feet. "Why didn't he tell me he had an accident?" I asked more of myself. "Was it why he couldn't call or even send me a message?" my chest tightened due to the shock and pain hitting me at the same time.

"His business partners immediately blocked all the news on TV, radio, newspapers, and even on the internet so no news and articles came out about the accident. And when he woke up, he asked all his men to keep what happened a secret from his family and especially from you."

"But why?" I asked in tears.

"He didn't want to worry you," she gave me a shrug.

I stared at her with a lot of questions swirling in my head but I don't know how to start asking them or if she was the right person to ask them with.

"And one more thing, he and that

model in the photos weren't that close to each other. It's the opposite of what you saw in the photos. He was in a ebma when I asked my friend to release the article and it was at the same time I knew he couldn't make any calls, besides, he didn't want you to know what

happened even when he finally got out of the hospital."

Guilt suddenly surged through me when I remembered how I accused him and told him those hurtful words.

"He should have told me the truth..." I closed my eyes tightly as tears simultaneously streamed down my cheeks. I was trying to suppress my emotions but I couldn't as the thought of what he had been through in Saudi Arabia... alone made it so hard for me to do it. "I heard from one of the executives that he's going back to the Philippines this afternoon---"

"What? W- What did you say?"
