One More Chance

Chapter 168: Her doubts

"I'm sorry, I'm late," I looked at Dana as I apologized for being late the next morning.

"No, it's fine, dear, I understand."

I put my bag on the table and sighed at the same time.

"Is there any progress?" She asked, giving me a cup of hot coffee.

But I just replied with a sad smile as I shook my head.

"Ohh... don't worry, he would certainly call you maybe one of these days," she patted me on the shoulder.

"Yeah, I just hope so,"

"How about asking his parents, have you tried it already?"novelbin

"Nope, I don't want to startle them with this news, but I will definitely call them once I find out what really is going on with Luke."

"Well, I agree, but I just hope you ask that man for an acceptable reason!"

"I will, Dana, I will!" I emphasized the last two words. "I just hope this time that I'm wrong and what I've been thinking since yesterday is wrong!" I formed my fists as the thought of that horrible idea came again into my mind.

"Don't think too much, Sam. I know he surely has a reason why he hasn't called you,"

And since today is Saturday, we have a double number of customers so, I decided to help our staff serving them. It's one of the great ways I could stop thinking of Luke even just for a day.

But I was just about to walk back to the counter after serving orders when I heard the sound of the door chimes. I slowly turned around to greet our new guest or guests maybe, but my smile automatically left my lips when I recognized who had entered the glass door. It's Lucy.

Yes, it's Lucy, Luke's former trainee, and employee. She walked slowly and seductively in my direction.

"Hi, Sam," she flushed me a fake smile. Yeah, I know it's fake because it hasn't even reached her ears.

And since she was still a customer despite her intentions of going to the cafe, I greeted her anyway with the same smile she gave me.

"Oh, hi, Lucy, it has been so long since you have visited the shop,"

"Yeah, you're right, my schedules have been so hectic lately and it's also taken up even my free time."

"Ohh... is it so?" I couldn't help raising my eyebrow as she sat down on the vacant seat in front of me.

"Actually, I just got back from our business meeting in the Middle East and oh, God, I'm sure you wouldn't want to know what happened!"

I secretly took a deep breath after hearing the word Middle East. She was still part of the company although she was in the PR department. And seeing the smug smile that instantly curled up against her lips, made me realize that she was just provoking my mood. "Aw, if you say so," I just smiled and shrugged at the same time, pretending I wasn't interested in what she was saying. "Well, if you'll excuse me, I still have work to do. I'll ask one of our staff to assist you and get your order as well,"

I was about to turn around and leave her when she spoke again.

"Oops! Come on, Sam, you don't have to be that obvious,"

"I'm sorry, but I don't know what you're talking about,"

"Cut the crap, Samantha, I know you dislike me!"

"I didn't say that," I smiled, shaking my head.

She stared at me for a few seconds before flashing me a wide grin.

"Anyway, where is your boyfriend? Hasn't he arrived yet from their meeting in Saudi Arabia?"

I don't know but her eyes instantly lit up after saying the word boyfriend.

"Haist... yeah, I'm sure he hasn't arrived yet."

"Then why are you still asking when you already know the answer?"

"Do you know why he doesn't come back yet? I have information about him and I can tell you everything if you want."

"You know what, I have no time for this. Excuse me."

"Don't be so fast! I still have something to give you,"

I clenched my teeth as I took another deep breath.

"Hmm... I know how much you hate me, but I'm sure you will hate more what I'm about to give you."

I frowned when she took a folded newspaper out of her bag and gave it to me with the most vexatious smile.

"What is this?" I asked confused.

"A newspaper, darling,"

I tried to calm my nerves before asking her again.

"I know it's a newspaper, but what I'm asking is that what am I gonna do with this shit?" I almost whispered the last word.

"Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. Don't call it shit, my dear, at least not now. Later when you read it." she said slowly shaking her head. "Because what you're going to read from one of the articles in that newspaper is shittier than the paper itself."

"What the heck are you really doing here, Lucy? Did you just suddenly decide to come here to give me this nonsense thing?"

"Whoa! Don't be so easy to judge that poor thing, my darling. Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. Why don't you start reading it now? I'm sure you will come back in front of me after discovering the truth," she smirked, but since I know that my string of patience towards this bitch is now getting thinner and smaller every second I talk to her, I decided to leave and went back to the counter with the newspaper in my hand.

Honestly, I'm slowly getting curious about what she's talking about and what's inside the newspaper.

So right after closing the door to the office, I immediately read every article in it.

"Oh... God! This... is... not real..." These were the only words that left my mouth when my eyes landed on the bold-faced article on the international news page.

**ONE OF LA'S TOP BACHELORS AND BUSINESS TYCOON IS NOW MARRIED TO FAMOUS MODEL AND ENTREPRENEUR**

Below that heartbreaking article is a photo of him with a woman wearing a white dress and apparently showing off the ring on her finger.

I grasped my chest as I don't know what exactly to feel at that moment. The shock I felt was an understatement and I really wanted to cry and tear up the paper in front of me, but the thought of grinning Lucy brought me back to my senses.

And with the pain and anger consuming me at the same time, I grabbed that paper and stormed out of the office to see Lucy again.

She was beaming with happiness when she saw me walking toward her table.

"Oh, see, I was right when I said you will come back in front of me after seeing the news about your husband---"

But she didn't have the chance to continue what she was about to say as I slammed the newspaper in front of her.

"Where did you get this, bitch?" My voice came out a little louder so I gained the attention of the other customers. "Whoa! You should have thanked me---"

"And why should I do that when I know your true intention is to ruin our relationship?"

"I'm just concerned with you, Sam,"

"Well, cut that bullshit, Lucy, because I won't fall for this trick!"

"Sam, what is going on?" Dana and Martha ran to my side when they heard me scream.

"What is she doing again?" Martha asked me, but her eyes were silently throwing daggers at the bitch in a red dress.

"But I'm not tricking you! Your beloved boyfriend is now married to Athena Robles, an international model, and entrepreneur in Saudi Arabia!"

"Your lying, bitch!" Dana screamed, her fists were formed as if she was ready to punch her at any moment.

"Ohh... Snow White with her dwarfs! Tsk. Tsk... how sad, you only have two!"

"Trust me, I'm gonna fucking kill her in the next few seconds!" Dana whispered, but intentionally let Lucy hear.

"Nope, please don't let your hands get dirty just because of her, Dana." I gave her a pat on the back.

"Haist! I'm so sad for you, my dear... when are you going to accept the truth that you and Luke are not meant for each other?
