“He wants to make up for his mistakes by helping you advance in your career. I’m okay with that,” Linda

said.

“Are you sure about this, Linda?” Chloe asked. “I have other ways to succeed in my career.”

“There’s nothing to be unsure about it.” Linda set the papers down. “If Joanne knew William was supporting you instead of paving the way for Ida, she’d be mad.”

Chloe signed the document and said, “Then let her be mad. This is for my nephew who never saw the light of day.”

“When do you plan to deal with Ida?” Linda asked.

Chloe stayed calm. “Linda, there’s no rush. She’s not stressed enough yet. I’ll act when she starts to falter.”

“Do you have a plan already?”

“Naturally,” Chloe said with a self–assured grin.

“That’s good to know. Just tell me if you hit a snag.”

“Don’t worry, I can deal with a nobody.” Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.

“Are you done with work? I want to take you to a wonderful hidden gem restaurant.”

“Let’s go. I’m just getting hungry.”

Just then, the clock struck 7:00 pm, signaling the end of Chloe’s workday.

still around, and they were a family of four.

“Linda, do you miss Mom and Dad?‘ Chloe asked.

-Linda was caught off guard. “No, I don’t.”

Chloe never enjoyed being around John and Adeline. She left for school abroad early on and didn’t spend much time with them, so she wasn’t, close to them. Compared to Linda, Chloe was certainly more distant.

“I was just thinking about how things used to be–all four of us together,” Linda said.

“But we can’t go back.”

“Yes, we have to accept it, no matter the outcome.”

“Linda, the more you act this way, the more I think you can’t move on from William.”

Linda was very sentimental, and Chloe’s biggest concern was that William might rekindle her emotions.

Linda pulled over at the corner and got out of the car. Chloe followed.

“Don’t worry, I’m over William,” Linda said.

Her heart, broken and scarred, wouldn’t heal anytime soon.

A week later, Linda visited Felix Group. Samson had arranged for Wendy, the legal team from YK Media,

and security personnel to accompany her.

Linda thought it was unnecessary. Even if Tom had lost it, he wouldn’t try anything with so many people around. But once she arrived, she understood that Samson had been prudent to take precautions.

Before Linda entered the conference room, Tom was telling exaggerated stories about how Linda had taken the company shares and his tireless efforts for the company.

When Linda appeared, Tom immediately became agitated. “Who gave you permission to be here?”

Linda nodded in acknowledgment to the senior employees present. These veterans were John’s friends and the company’s backbone.

Tom’s behavior seemed absurd to her. She asked, “Do I need permission? I’m the largest shareholder in

Felix Group.

She snapped her fingers, and the head of the legal team standing behind Wendy stepped forward.

“Mr. Tom Felix, we’ve reported to the court about your embezzlement of company money for buying. personal real estate and leaking company secrets, which has damaged the company.

“We hope you will cooperate with their investigation.”

The mention of court made Tom react defensively, like a cornered beast. He sprang at Linda but was quickly subdued by the security personnel.
