My Sweet Lawyer Wife

Chapter 15 Beg Me to Spare Thee

She couldn’t help but inwardly curse him.

“Who is this girl? She’s got a sharp tongue.”

“No idea. How dare she talk to Mr. Alston like that? Young and naive.”

“Age is not an excuse. She’s just reckless.”

“Shush. She seems to get along pretty well with Mr. Grant. There could be a big twist.”

Those who stayed on the sidelines began to whisper, all waiting to make fun of her.

Peter was still enjoying his brandy, no response to Adriana’s accusations.

After a few moments, he asked casually with raised eyebrows, “Miss Hale, I bet you’ve got plenty of free time now, since your company has gone bankrupt.” Reading between the lines, she could tell he’s gloating over her misfortune.

Her fists clenched in anger and her lips were pressed together as she glared at him, “Stop playing dumb with me. You don’t know how my company went bankrupt? How could you? Shame on you. I bet you’re happy now, since you’ve achieved your aims with your dirty tricks on me.”

“What do you mean? Dirty tricks on you? Aren’t you a lawyer? A lawyer should never say things like this. They might misunderstand, you know.”

Peter sneered, “Are you done talking? Then get the hell out of here!”

“I …”

Being evicted by him irritated her, but she couldn’t let her anger out.

So she tried everything to keep calm and said, “If you have a problem with me, you could come at me. I won’t complain a word. But there are more than a hundred people in my company, and what you’re doing is ruining their career.”

When she finished, Peter was still apathetic to her words, looking down at the brandy in his hand.

Adriana had to go on, “I’m begging you, to show some mercy, please.”

She had never expected to run into so much trouble when she just returned from abroad.

She started the business with her best friend Anne Cobb. Although Anne withdrew some shares later, but she’s still one of the founders.

If she failed to save the company, what explanation was she supposed to offer to Anne and all the other employees?

Only she knew how much trouble she had gone through since the company was founded.

At that moment, Alvin finally realized that something unpleasant happened between them.

But he could do nothing but wait, because Peter’s his good friend and Adriana’s his junior schoolmate.

“Begging me to spare you?”

He raised his eyebrows and said, “How do you plan to persuade me into it?”

“I …”

Although she knew that Peter was trying to give her a hard time, Adriana had to bite the bullet, “Tell me, what is it gonna take?”

“Uh-huh? Interesting.”

Intrigued by her words, he tickled the bargirl’s chin who was in his arms, “Avril, what’s your opinion?”

Avril was just the girl who got beaten by Adriana just now.

Ecstatic to hear his words, she gave him a flirtatious smile.

Then she reached out and pointed at the red wine on the table, “There are thirty-five glasses here. Drink them up. That should do it.”

Adriana took a quick glance at the glasses in front of her. Thirty-five glasses all full of red wine, that’s about ten bottles.

“OK, I’ll do it.”

Without thinking, she nodded.

Then she unbuttoned and rolled up her sleeves.

Alvin stepped out to stop her, “Come on, Adri.”

Then he blocked her view and turned to Peter, “Adri has just returned home, and I don’t know what she has done to offend you, but I’ll apologize for her. Please just let it go, Peter.”

Peter looked at them thoughtfully, and then he sneered, “Alvin, I’m telling you this because we’re good friends. You’d better stay away from this kind of woman. She’s just a slut, selling herself for money. You’re too good for her anyway.”

“You’re a bastard, Peter Alston!”

Hearing his malignant slander, rage flowed through her, “How dare you! Who made you the expert to judge me?”

“Who am I to judge? You don’t remember what you’ve done? Four years ago, what did you do for money, eh? I believe you’re not suffering from amnesia, are you?”

Peter uncovered her past ruthlessly, but he feared that she might notice something, so he added, “I just made a few investigations. Who would have thought that you’re such a filthy slut? From now on, stay away from Tessa and Alvin.”

At that moment, everyone was looking at Adriana.

She didn’t give a fuck about how others thought of her, but her heart ached when she noticed Alvin’s disappointed look.Owned by NôvelDrama.Org.

“I …” She kept biting her lips in a panic.

Seconds later, she pushed Alvin away, “This has nothing to do with you, Alvin.” Then she took a glass of red wine and drank it straight down in one.

After finishing the first one, she dropped the glass on the table which let out a loud sound.

Then the second one …

The third one …

The fourth one …

The fifth one …

The twelfth one …

She drank nonstop, one glass after another, but she seemed to be in lots of pain.

“Adri, stop.”

Alvin couldn’t take it anymore, so he stepped forward and wrenched the wine glass from her hand.

But Adriana pushed him away and shouted in a fury, “Leave me alone. It’s none of your business!” Her voice became hoarse when shouting those words, as if she were releasing all her emotions that had been depressed for a long time.

Or she was hurt by Peter’s words, feeling like her dishonorable past was revealed. She can hardly breathe, for it’s like rubbing salt into her wounds.

Over the past few years, she hadn’t got the courage to go out with any of her suitors.

Simply because she felt like she was stained, not good enough for anyone!

Her roaring left everyone in the room frozen.

Nobody was talking. Alvin had no idea what to do, but to stand by and worriedly watch her drinking.

“Peter, could you …”

Alvin eventually couldn’t bear watching Adriana suffer, so he turned to Peter.

However, Peter interrupted him by waving his hands, “All of you, get out. I need to talk to her in private.”

On his command, everyone stood up to leave.

“Alvin, come on.”

The others tried to drag Alvin out.

It seemed that Peter was about to go easy on her, so Alvin said to her gently, “I’ll be right outside if you need me.”

“Thanks.”

With all those wine in her stomach, she felt a bit dizzy, but she could still keep her senses altogether.

Everyone walked out of the room, leaving the door closed.

In no time, the room was in deafening silence.

There she was, standing there like a statue, while Peter was still on the sofa. He gave her a cold look, “You want me to spare you?”

“Yes.”

She gave her consent with a slight nod.

“It’s pretty simple actually. You’ll just have to do me a favor.”

“Name it.”
