Chapter 268
Chapter 268
“Mastermind of Law” turned out to be more popular than anyone had expected.
Besides the fantastic storyline, Celeste’s interpretation of the character also greatly boosted the show’s popularity.
The production team knew this well and naturally thought of filming a sequel, saying that the pay would be negotiable. Celeste thought for a moment and said, “I can help you guys shoot a few episodes. There’s no need to pay me, but you’ll have to do me a favor.”
Michaela was somewhat surprised, “Me?”
Celeste nodded, leaned in and whispered a few words in her ear.
“Deal?”
Michaela hesitated for a while before agreeing, “Deal.”
A breeze blew by, carrying with it a faint scent of flowers. Michaela frowned, “This floral scent is a bit weird.”
“That’s the scent of the mandrake,” Celeste glanced at the flowers on the balcony and whispered, “Too much of the scent isn’t good for your health.”
What’s up with this place, putting out mandrake flowers like that? Aren’t they afraid someone might accidentally be poisoned?
Michaela was surprised, “You really know your flowers, recognizing them at a glance.”
“My family grows them too. Mandrakes may look pretty, but they’re poisonous and need to be handled with care.”
As she spoke, Celeste took out her phone and showed Michaela a photo of the mandrakes she grew at home.
Michaela sighed, “They really are beautiful.”
“If you like them, I’ll send you some seeds when I go back.”
As they chatted and walked back, they heard a voice coming from the hallway.
“Simon, are you crazy? What was that just now?”
Molly’s voice, angry and somewhat stifled.
Simon shrugged her hand off, straightened his clothes, and said lazily, “Ms. Fletcher, watch it, I’m a married man now.”
Molly scoffed, “What’s with the act in front of me? Didn’t you marry that forensic girl just to get back at me? Why are you still pretending to be all lovey–dovey now? Did you make me look bad on purpose just for her?”
Celeste thought: This is pretty hot gossip.
She sneaked a glance at Michaela, who seemed calm but was gripping her yogurt a bit harder.
She felt awkward and wondered whether to leave or stay put.
Simon still looked carefree, smiling and saying, “Ms. Fletcher, you’re overthinking it. We’re all adults here. We get together with people we like, and leave them if we don’t. Why would I want to get back at you?”
Molly didn’t seem to buy his explanation, “That ring she’s wearing, it’s the same one you proposed to me with, isn’t it? Didn’t you deliberately show it to me?”
Simon shook his head, unruffled, “It’s just a ring too good to be thrown away. Ms. Fletcher, you’re too sensitive.”
Molly was furious, “Forget it! You better never mention our past again. If my reputation gets damaged, you won’t get off easy either!”
After saying those words, Molly stormed off angrily.
Celeste licked her lips, about to say something to lighten the mood, only to find that Michaela had walked straight out. Simon was straightening his clothes when he suddenly saw Michaela. He paused for a moment, then walked over to her with a natural expression and held her hand.
“Your hand is so cold,” he gently rubbed her fingertips, warming them in his palm, “Why did you go to the balcony?”
Michaela didn’t resist. She replied softly, “I talked to Celeste about some things.”
Simon glanced over, and Celeste had sneaked back into the room.
As Simon held Michaela’s hand, they walked and he asked, “What did you talk about?”
“Celeste showed me the flowers she’s growing. They’re beautiful.”
“Do you like them?”
“Yeah.”
“Then we’ll grow them too.”
“No need. Your parents might not like it.”

Michaela thought for a moment and said, “Then I’ll just grow one pot and put it on the balcony of the study.”
Simon leaned in and kissed her cheek, whispering, “As you wish.
Celeste’s feelings were complicated.
If it weren’t for the scene she just saw, she would think the two of them were a perfect match.
But now she felt their affection was all an act.
She stayed outside for a while before returning to the private room.
As soon as she came back, she found that Liam had actually gotten himself drunk.
Nicolas was almost there too, but at least he was still sober and could talk normally.
It was understandable for people to get drunk, but Molly, hadn’t she just argued with Simon? Why was she now leaning on Steven?
Celeste and Nicolas struggled to get Liam into the car, and the three of them left first.
Molly got into Steven’s car, thinking the two of them could take things to the next level, but not long after the car drove off, Steven switched to a Ferrari and had the driver take Molly home.
As soon as Steven got into the car, a file was handed to him, and a male voice said, “This is all the information on Celeste, from her birth till now.”
