My Mirror Image by Maybe Not (Candice And Alex’s)

Chapter 49

Chapter 49

Casually, he nodded and agreed to Sonia’s request.

It was then that Sonia remembered Candice and apologetically said, “Candice, sorry for the trouble.”

Candice remained silent and left after dropping them off at GT. After all, Alex wouldn’t be short of company with Sieg and others there.

Back home, Candice immediately showered and slept.

In the middle of the night, her phone disrupted her sleep.

Alex’s cold voice came through the other end, “Come pick me up.”

Listening to the rain outside. Candice tucked herself deeper into the blanket, “You can take a cab.”

Just as she finished speaking, Alex hung up.

Candice didn’t want to go out in the cold.

However, three minutes later, her phone rang again.

It was Alex.

With the same cold and indifferent tone, he said, “Come pick me up.”

Candice remained silent, and the call ended on the other side.

Three minutes later, the phone rang again.

Candice’s sleep was completely disrupted.

When Alex called again, she simply replied with a “Okay.”

The calls stopped. Candice changed her clothes and headed to GT.

It was still raining, so Candice drove slowly. By the time she reached GT, half an hour had passed.

The bar was still crowded, and Candice searched inside but couldn’t find Alex.

She inquired with the bar owner, only to be informed that Sieg’s group had left earlier.

Due to staying up late that night, Candice’s complexion the next day was quite poor.

Unlike her, Sonia was energetic.

The proposal for Silver Ocean Industries was challenging, and Candice had some questions to ask Alex.

When Sonia suggested joining her, Candice curtly replied, “Your forms aren’t finished yet.”

Candice’s words kept Sonia in her seat.

When Candice went upstairs, Alex was on a video call. He gestured for her to wait. NôvelDrama.Org copyrighted © content.

Candice stood there, surveying her surroundings. The layout hadn’t changed much but was always somewhat

different from the memories in Candice’s mind.

Perhaps it was because of those openly displayed small ornaments.

After finishing the call Alex glanced at Candice and frowned. “Did you not rest well last night?”

Candice paused before saying, “You asked me to pick you up last night, but you weren’t at the bar.”

“Really?” Alex seemed indifferent. He raised his eyebrows slightly and casually said, “I might have gotten drunk and not noticed.”

His nonchalant words felt like a slap to Candice’s ears, making her appear ridiculous. She thought she had become a habit for Alex, but it turned out to be just a joke after he had too much to drink.

It felt as if someone had knocked her head into a wall. It felt both bitter and painful.

As she descended the stairs, she coincidentally met someone from the HR department delivering the list of

newly hired employees and their salary details.

Candice went through the list, finding no issues. Just as she was about to return it, she noticed Sonia’s name

in the last row.

When new employees join the CEO’s secretary’s office, they receive a bonus as an encouragement. Alex was generous and never mistreated them in this regard.

However, Candice saw that Sonia didn’t receive this bonus.

Did Alex forget?

Seeing Candice staring at the list with a furrowed brow, the HR person thought there was an issue with the list.

“Candice, is something wrong?”

Candice returned to her senses and shook her head. “It’s nothing.”

Whether Alex forgot or for any other reason, what did it have to do with her?

“Oh, by the way, I’ll go over with you,” Candice said as she returned the list.

Pushing aside those thoughts, she followed the person to the HR department.

Candice made some adjustments to her employee contract. Her last appointment was three years ago, and there were less than three months before it expired.
