My Mirror Image by Maybe Not (Candice And Alex’s)

Chapter 0545

Chapter 0545

Alex couldn't wait, and he couldn't really calm down either.

The call from Oscar came through Candice's phone. In what situation would Candice give her phone to someone like Oscar, whom she barely knew?

Alex didn't dare to think.

He just wanted to hurry and find Candice as soon as possible.

Sieg reached out and grabbed Alex's arm. Children from wealthy families like theirs tended to be cautious to some extent. After all, incidents like kidnapping weren't unheard of in their circle.

But when he saw Alex's bloodshot eyes, he hesitated. The words of caution were on the tip of his tongue, but he didn't know how to say them.

Alex hadn't even changed his clothes; he was still wearing the rain-soaked outfit from last night, and it was now all wrinkled.

He hadn't slept all night, and his exhaustion was evident on his face. Sieg had never seen Alex in such a disheveled state before.

Even during the confrontation with his biological father, Alex had never shown any signs of weakness.

Sieg subconsciously let go of his hand, and at that moment, Alex simply walked past him and left.

It wasn't until he heard the sound of the car engine at the door that Sieg snapped out of it. He furrowed his brow, his expression tense, but he couldn't help muttering a curse under his breath.

When the warehouse door opened again, it was already bright outside.

Oscar strolled in casually, and he looked at Candice, who was curled up, with some pity. "Sorry, Ms. Renault. I didn't consider your psychological state. I thought you wouldn't be so timid."

Candice slowly raised her head. Her face was pale and covered in sweat, while her hair was stuck to her forehead. She looked terrible.

Oscar had come in once in the early hours of the morning. At that time, Candice was already at her limit. Being alone in such a terrifying environment could easily lead to a mental breakdown.

And Candice, who was usually able to endure hardships, could only bite her lips tightly in such a situation.

It wasn't that she didn't want to speak; her throat seemed to be glued shut, and she couldn't make a sound.

She felt terrible at that time. She didn't know how Oscar knew of her condition, but he came in and brought her a bottle of water.

Finally seeing light, Candice asked, "How long do you plan to keep me here?"

Oscar didn't answer directly but instead asked, "Are you afraid of the dark?"

Candice didn't speak, so Oscar looked at her, patiently waiting for her response.

"I have night blindness," Candice whispered.

Oscar seemed somewhat surprised. He examined Candice for a moment before suddenly saying, "My mother was terrified of the dark."

Candice didn't say anything. They both knew about the relationship between Oscar's mother and Daniel. Oscar then pulled over a stool and sat down in front of Candice, his expression complicated.

"I was there when my mother jumped off the building."

Candice's eyelashes trembled lightly. She didn't understand why Oscar was telling her all this.

But it seemed that Oscar didn't need her response. He just wanted to reminisce.

"My mother never told me I was a bastard. She just said my father was very busy with a lot of work. Later, I saw my father, Alex, and Helen eating together at a high-end restaurant. They looked like a harmonious family of three.

"I asked her why Dad didn't eat with us, and she explained that he was working and entertaining clients."

Jovita loved Daniel with all her heart. They were high school sweethearts, but the Sanburgs had neither money nor power, as both Jovita’s parents were workers.

Naturally, Daniel looked down on such a family. But he was hypocritical; he wanted to flaunt true love, so he blamed it all on Helen.

He said Helen had forced him to marry her and that Helen was clinging to him.

Oscar found the past both sad and ridiculous.

A half-arsed person like Daniel wasn't worthy of Jovita’s unwavering love.

Halfway through speaking, Oscar suddenly stopped.

He glanced at the time, raised an eyebrow, and stood up before asking Candice, "Let’s go outside for some fresh air. Do you need me to help you up? Besides, I think Alex should be here soon."

Candice felt that Oscar's smile was somewhat strange. After thinking for a moment, she whispered, "If you let me go now, I can explain everything to them."

Oscar retorted, "Explain what? That I didn’t kidnap you?"

Candice had been curled up on the floor all night and was very stiff. When she tried to stand up, she couldn't even steady herself.

Alex arrived at the address Oscar had sent him at lightning speed. It was near the port, on the rooftop of an abandoned factory.

Almost as soon as he got up there, Alex saw Candice with Oscar by her side.

Candice was covered in mud, and her hair was a mess. With her hands bound behind her, she looked very pale.

Alex's face darkened as he was about to step forward, but then he heard Oscar speak, "Mr. Elysian, if you have any sense left, you should stop right there. If you come any closer, I can't guarantee I won't accidentally push her off."

Alex abruptly stopped and stared at Oscar with his teeth clenched. "What do you want to do?!"

"My mother jumped off a building because of Daniel, and you were the reason I had to leave. I want some compensation. Isn't that reasonable?" Oscar stared back at him.

Alex glared at him. "If you want something, just tell me. Why are you dragging innocent people into this?!"

Oscar laughed. "If I hadn’t brought Ms. Renault here, would you be willing to talk to me?"

His tone turned instantly cold, and his gaze sharpened. "Alex, you clearly want to push me to my death, yet now you're pretending to be magnanimous!"

He pulled the rope binding Candice's wrists. They stood again by the railing of the rooftop, and he spat cruelly, "Ms. Renault will have to jump if I say so."

Alex looked at Candice. After enduring a night of terror, she looked fragile, as if a gust of wind could blow her away. He couldn’t breathe when he saw her standing on the edge of the building.

As Alex watched Oscar's smug expression, he struggled to keep calm, but his voice was hoarse with panic. "Don't touch her. Whatever conditions you have, I'll agree to them."

Oscar had gone to great lengths to kidnap Candice, all with the sole purpose of manipulating Alex.

Seeing Candice's condition, Alex felt a pang of distress. He softly reassured her, "Don't be afraid. Everything will be okay soon."

Candice listened to his words, her heart suddenly racing. Forced to the edge of the rooftop by Oscar, she had to admit that she was terrified.

There were no railings on this side of the rooftop. If she leaned back, she would fall.

The building was three stories high, with nothing but stones and various discarded steel pipes below.

Candice's lips were dry and cracked. She could only look at Alex.

Truth be told, she hadn't expected Alex to be the first one to come to her rescue.

She thought...

But suddenly, her mind was flooded with countless images. It seemed that every time, whether it was during Francis’s incident, the car accident in Solaris, or any other time she was in danger, Alex was always the first to appear...
