Chapter 20
Chapter 20
The doors to the operation ward opened.
Jasper wheeled Esther to the doctor.
“Doctor, Tinkerbell…”
The doctor shook his head grimly.
“We’ve done our best. Our condolences.”
Esther questioned in shock, “What do you mean?”
Condolences? What did he mean?
She sprang out from the wheelchair, aggressive like she had never been, as she clutched the doctor’s
surgical gown and questioned again tearfully, “What do you mean? You’re supposed to save your
patients! Go back now… Go back and save my daughter!”
Jasper wrapped an arm around her shoulder and coaxed her hoarsely, “Esther, calm down. The
doctors have done their best.”
“No! No! No!”
Esther could not believe this brutal reality.
She had finally found her daughter and did not even get to hug her or tell her that she was her mother -
and she was already gone!
This must be a nightmare! She must still be dreaming!
Esther raised a hand to slap herself harshly.
As the loud slap resounded, Jasper quickly caught her hand and sobbed. “Esther, what are you
doing?”
“I’m dreaming, right, Jasper?”
Jasper hugged Esther, who was berserk from the news, and coaxed her like he would coax a child.
“Tinkerbell’s still waiting for you. Experts say hearing is the last sense that remains for dying
patients.
“You can still tell Tinkerbell that you’re her mother. She can hear it.
“I’ll take you to see her, Esther.”
Jasper kept Esther in his arms as they came to Tinkerbell, who was covered in a white cloth.
Esther shakily reached out to pull a corner of the cloth off.
Tinkerbell looked as if she had just fallen asleep and looked so endearing.
“Tinkerbell, it’s Mommy. Tinkerbell, wake up. Open your eyes and look at me!
“Mommy’s here, Tinkerbell. Mommy’s taking you home. We’re going home.”
Esther bent down to carry Tinkerbell, but her current state was so bad that walking alone was an issue,
let alone carrying a child.
Jasper looked away and discreetly wiped his tears before patting Esther’s shoulder gently.
“I’ll be outside, Esther. Talk to Tinkerbell.
“I know it’s hard to accept something like this, but you don’t just have Tinkerbell. You still have Pixie.
You’ve got to pull yourself together for her.
“Don’t do silly things, Esther. I’m just outside. Call for me if you need me.”
Jasper closed the door in consideration as he left.
Esther and Tinkerbell were the only two left in the spacious operation room.
Esther knelt on the floor as she kept puffing air to warm Tinkerbell up.
“Tinkerbell, Mommy’s here. Stop sleeping, okay?
“It’s Mommy’s fault. Mommy’s late. You can scold me or hit me, but d-don’t give me the cold shoulder.
“Tinkerbell, open your eyes, okay? Please, Mommy says please, open your eyes and look at me…NôvelDrama.Org copyrighted © content.
