Chapter 19: A Woman who Had Children Cannot Marry Someone from the Powell Family
“Mr. Powell, it’s ten o’clock now. Ms. Miller had left the office a long time ago…”
When Brooklyn took over Powell Group at the age of fifteen, Harper had become his assistant.
After so many years, he knew very well that his boss was having insomnia.
Powell Group was a powerful company. However, his illness couldn’t be cured after searching for famous doctors in Sliwell.
Nevertheless, when Ms. Miller just started working in the company for just one week, Mr. Powell could rest well as long as she was there. As a result, Harper did not need to worry about Mr. Powell’s health as before this he was afraid that Mr. Powell would die suddenly one day because of staying up late. Ms. Miller was the one who saved Harper.
“Okay.” Brooklyn pressed his long fingers on his eyebrows, “Start the car and get ready to go back.”
“Yes.”
“Wait.” Brooklyn stopped Harper. “Investigate Anna and the people she interacts with regularly by asking all the people we know.”
He always felt reassured when he smelled the scent of her body which was so familiar to him.
But he was so sure that he never met Anna before.
Harper said, “Mr. Powell, haven’t you already investigated Ms. Miller’s background before?”
It was rare to find someone who could make Brooklyn fail to investigate her background.
Who was the one that had helped Ms. Miller hide her background?
Diana returned to her apartment at night. She pushed open the door and placed the things she was carrying on the shoe rack.
The house was quiet. It seemed like Austin and Emily had slept.
Seeing the empty takeaway boxes on the table in the dining room, Diana felt a bit guilty.
She found out that she needed some ingredients to make the perfumes in the living room so she called her son after work to ask him to look after his sister as she needed to work.
Austin agreed quickly.
Diana threw the takeaway boxes on the table into the dustbin and took her jacket. She put her jacket on the sofa and walked gently and quietly to their room door before pushing it open.
There was only a dim yellow light flickering faintly inside the room.
On the two beds, Austin and Emily had already changed into their pyjamas and they had already fallen asleep obediently.
They both had inherited the looks of Diana as well as Brooklyn, especially Austin who had a cold look just like his father, Brooklyn.
Looking at the two children, Diana felt like she loved them so much.
She walked to the bedside and gently kissed the foreheads of the two children before leaving the room quietly.
After a few minutes, she dressed in a smart white coat, tying her black hair up in a ponytail. Then, she came to the workroom.
There were all sorts of sophisticated instruments and spices on the rectangular work table. There was also a pile of documents scattered on the table.
The files contained the information that Rachel helped her to collect, which related to Mr. and Mrs. Hill.
The dense red handwriting on the documents was Diana’s annotations.
Mr. and Mrs. Hill ran the world’s largest clothing company. When they were young, they were also fashion designers who knew the fashion trends very well.
Diana wanted to approach them by letting them recall their memories. She wanted to create a perfume that could remind them of their romantic days when they were young.
She needed to purchase many ingredients to create an outstanding perfume.
Luckily Mirabelle gave her some money before and she did not need to take money from her savings. Diana put the ingredients she had purchased today in her workroom and sighed sadly as she looked at the things on her desk.
“Ugh, I think that I won’t be able to rest early again tonight.”
By facilitating the partnership between Mr. and Mrs. Hill as well as Powell Group as soon as possible, she could gain Brooklyn’s trust and broke him and Mirabelle up. By doing so, she could leave Sliwell with Austin and Emily.
She hoped that she could find Harley as soon as possible before she left Sliwell.
…
“What? You can’t find Anna’s background at all? Are you sure?”
Jessica was surprised when she received a call from a private detective and heard that even the best private detective in Sliwell couldn’t investigate Anna’s background.
She was just a perfumer. How powerful could she be?
“Mrs. Moss, I suspect that someone had helped her hide her background. Looking at her past, she was a normal woman who grew up overseas and…”
“And what? Go on!”
The private detective looked at the documents in his hand. He then bit the bullet and told her, “And it seems like she has two children…”
In the photo, Diana was holding the hands of Austin and Emily. The three of them were at a playground.
Emily looked naive and cute while Austin looked cool and handsome.
Looking at the photo, one would imagine how handsome Diana’s husband would be to be able to have two cute children with Diana who was also a beauty.
Jessica was stunned hearing his words.
She was surprised to hear that Anna had two children.
She felt that it was so ridiculous that Anna who already had two children was trying to compete with her daughter to be Brooklyn’s girlfriend.
Even if Anna was a stunning woman, she could not marry someone from the Powell family as she already had children with someone else.
That would be a disgrace.
Jessica settled down and she thought that Moss Group was now desperately in need of a large cash flow to overcome its financial problem.
Now she had something on Anna. As long as she tried to seduce Brooklyn, she would spread the news that Anna already had two children.
By then, it was impossible that Mrs. Powell would allow Brooklyn to marry Anna.
“Have you investigated where did Anna live?” Jessica displayed a calculating look.
“She is living in a high-end apartment,” The private detective replied.
Jessica smiled as she leaned back comfortably on the sofa and instructed the maid to massage her back, “Send me the photos of her children. Then, I will ask someone to give you thirty million Yuan as what I promised.”
It was better that she took the initiative to do something instead of waiting for Anna to be a bitch and seduce Brooklyn.
After a few days, Mirabelle received the photos from Jessica.
She opened the envelope and saw Diana and her two children in the photo.
Mirabelle who was raised up by Jessica was a calculating woman.
When she saw the photo, she instantly understood what Jessica wanted her to do.
Most rich people did not like their son to marry a woman who already had children with other men.
Anna, Anna, how were you going to compete with me now? Weren’t the two of them Brooklyn’s children?
Mirabelle smiled as she displayed a calculating look, “Help me develop these photos and send them to this address. Remember, don’t let Brooklyn know this matter.
The maid took the photos from Mirabelle and bent down, saying respectfully, “Yes, please don’t worry, Ms. Moss.”
She heard that every woman who had children would put her children first.
Anna, let me see if you put your children first, or Brooklyn first.
…
Diana was so busy making the perfume for Mr. and Mrs. Hill that she didn’t have a good rest for several days in a row.
To hide the dark circles under her eyes, she had to apply a very thick layer of concealer and wear heavy make-up.
For a while, the workers at Powell Group all thought that the reason she could work in the same office with Mr. Powell was that she was a beauty. They also thought that she dressed up every day to seduce Mr. Powell.
