Chapter 26 Both at Fault
Blanca didn’t dare sit by his side any longer and she stood up, blushing.
“No, it’s enough, I’m … I’m heading back.”
She took the lunchbox and fled the office.
Matthew looked at her receding back and suddenly felt that a bright spot had come into his dry monotonous life. He didn’t even notice the smile creeping up his face.
Blanca ran out in a panic and was about to head into the elevator when a woman with wavy hair rushed out of the elevator herself, and the two bumped into each other.
The woman’s hot tea spilled out and splashed all across the two.
The woman let out a shriek.
“Are you okay?”
Both of them had dirtied their clothes, and both of them had been careless, but Blanca was aware of how she’d rushed, and seeing the woman’s white clothes getting stained made her feel a surge of guilt.
“Do I look okay?”
The woman glared at Blanca. “These clothes are new! I’m only putting them on for the first time today!”
As she spoke, she wiped at her clothes irritably. Blanca looked on. It seemed like a high-end outfit, and it was white. With a huge patch now running down the front, it didn’t look good, and it probably wasn’t easy to clean either.
So Blanca offered, “Then … then I’ll pay you back.”
“Pay me back? You think you can afford it? My cousin bought this for me overseas! It’s a designer piece, worth fifteen thousand!”
Blanca’s eyes widened. Fifteen thousand??? For a dinky little white suit?!
She couldn’t help but sigh at how rich people lived in their own world.
But well, she had dirtied her suit. Sure, her own clothes were stained, but apparently, her dress wasn’t that expensive.
Matthew had had Curtis buy her the dress. She’d asked him how much it costed so she could pay Matthew back, but Curtis had said that it wasn’t that expensive, and it’d just look bad on Matthew if she paid him back for clothes. Since Curtis had said that much, Blanca hadn’t been so churlish as to refuse the gesture.
“It might be an expensive outfit, but it might come out in the wash. How about this? I’ll pay for the fees, and if it can’t be cleaned, I … I’ll pay you back.”
Just thinking of paying fifteen thousand alone hurt Blanca, but she wasn’t the type of person to shirk responsibility.
As for how to get the fifteen thousand itself, she’d thought it through. Matthew was the head of a whole company, and he should have the money. She could just borrow from him, then work hard to pay him back.
At that moment, someone snorted with laughter, and a familiar voice rang out.
“Seems like you don’t know about fashion too well, Miss Roach. Mary’s clothes can’t be washed.”
Blanca turned and saw Lisa Anderson sashaying over.
“Can’t wash? What kind of outfit is that?” Blanca demanded, displeased.
The woman called Mary sneered.
“Where’d this country bumpkin come from, Lisa? Why’s she on our floor?”
Lisa didn’t rush to introduce Blanca. She still bore a grudge. Since Mary didn’t know who Blanca was, she might as well use her to embarrass Blanca.Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.
