Chapter 136
Everett was absolutely livid, his words sharp and biting. "Seriously, ask yourself-this meal is so half-heartedly thrown together, even pigs would turn their noses up. And you think I'd eat it?" Selena just rolled her eyes internally.
When she actually put effort into her cooking, did he ever show any appreciation? Nope. He always had to be the one doing all the talking, complaining about everything!
It was probably just another one of his bad moods, and he was taking it out on her. Not wanting to butt heads, Selena swallowed her pride and replied in a calm and gentle tone, "Since you dislike it so much, I'll stop cooking. I'll have Ava make your meals every day and bring them over. How does that sound?"Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.
"In your dreams!"
A flicker of anger danced in Everett's eyes. "If it's not right, you keep at it until it is. A month, six months, even a year if that's what it takes!"
Selena was getting ticked off, too. "This is ridiculous! Why should I listen to you? Eat it or don't. I don't care!"
If he were set on making things difficult, no amount of cooking would ever please him. His spoiled brat behavior was flaring up again, and she'd be crazy to stick around and cater to it. Without a second thought, Selena stood up to leave.
But she barely got a few steps away when his mocking voice stopped her. "Selena, you're asking for a divorce, boldly demanding half of my wealth and stating you deserve a share. You claimed you've been the dutiful wife after looking after my parents, and serving me. Yet the reality is, you can't even whip up a meal I like!"
"And you actually dare to claim you're not just living off me in this marriage? Where do you get the nerve to challenge me?"
His words felt like nails pinning her to the ground, unable to move. Selena's hands clenched tight, her eyes starting to well up.
Everett never saw her efforts in their marriage, and was always quick to point out her shortcomings!
Even though she no longer craved his approval, his insults and disrespect ignited her competitive spirit and determination not to be belittled. She spun around, eyes blazing, her voice filled with defiance, "Everett, stop underestimating me. Fine, I'll keep cooking until you're satisfied!"
"And for the record, I've got a clear conscience in this marriage!"
Everett was the one who truly let down this marriage. He'd been unworthy from the start.
Lydia, lurking outside, saw her chance.
Selena was clueless, and only managed to get on her husband's nerves. Now was the perfect time for a more comforting presence, wasn't it?
She carried in a pot of freshly made soup, knocking lightly on the door, her voice sweet. "Mr. Bennett, I've made some soup, would you like to try it?"
BUM
Everett sat on the couch, his handsome face darkened and his aura downright chilly.
Lydia was a bit nervous but knew the risk might pay off.
Everett's cold eyes flicked to Selena before he finally said, "Fine, let's have a taste."
Lydia was thrilled, confident in her ability to charm men.
Hearing this, Selena let out a derisive laugh and turned to leave, her back straight. Everett's grip tightened, his gaze even more mysterious.
"Mr. Bennett, please, take it easy. I picked the ingredients myself this morning at the market, and had them freshly prepared. It's especially tasty." Lydia walked closer, her steps graceful. She had shed her cgat before entering, revealing a tank top and shorts.
As she leaned over to place the soup near Everett, her chest nearly brushed his arm. Her perfume smelled thick and alluring.
She brought a bowl of soup to
Everett's Tips, her voice honeyed and
coaxing. "Mr. Bennett, give it a try. It's got to be better than what Selena made."
