Chapter 149
Matthew immediately realized he had been tricked.
Tessa, who never once cared about Lorraine, suddenly showed concern for her daughter. He thought something migh have changed in her heart, but it turned out to be a lie.
Matthew felt even more disappointed in Tessa. But since he was already here, he might as well see what Jeffrey wanted
He walked over to the couch and sat down.
Tessa greeted him with a smile. “You might not know, but this is Mr. Smith, the future heir of Smith Group. Meeting him is the honor of a lifetime for you. Come, I’ll pour you a drink so you can toast to him.”
Tessa was full of flattery, trying her best to butter Jeffrey up.
In her eyes.

though Matthew might be worth ten billion dollars, he was nothing compared to the colossal Smith Group heir. Matthew wasn’t even worth mentioning in Jeffrey’s presence.
Provoking the Smith family was like asking for death. She assumed Matthew would never dare to anger Jeffrey. That was why she had the audacity to speak like that.
Matthew’s face darkened. “Just one drink? How about I toast him with two bottles instead?”
Two bottles? Wasn’t this a power play?
Tessa understood the implication of Matthew’s words and looked at him in shock. “Y–You can’t speak to Mr. Smith like that. Do you know the consequences of angering him?”
Matthew shrugged. He clearly didn’t seem to understand.
Tessa quickly apologized to Jeffrey. “I’m sorry. I didn’t expect him to be so disrespectful. He must’ve been in prison too long and is unaware of your identity. Otherwise, he wouldn’t dare disrespect you.”
Jeffrey accepted a glass of red wine from the beautiful woman beside him and drank it in one gulp. He then set the glass down and challenged, “Do you think a lion cares about the attitude of a mouse?”
Tessa eased up. “Mr. Smith, not only are you young and accomplished, but you’re also magnanimous.”
Jeffrey nodded and turned to Matthew. “Matthew, do you know the difference between you and me? You’re a poor guy who can’t even afford a private room in this bar, while I sit in this room and have beautiful women serving me.”
He continued, “Everything was fine until you stood at the bar and got greedy after seeing the women dancing on stage. There are plenty of beautiful women; enough to go around.
“Your mistake was coming into my room and trying to take the woman from my arms. That’s just courting death, you
Matthew was speechless. “Are you talking about Rachel? We’re engaged. Her entire family is aware. She’s my woman. Get it straight!”
Jeffrey sneered. “Your woman? So what if I take your woman? Do you even know your own status? How dare you fucking challenge me?
“You’ve pissed me off, and tonight you’ll learn there are some people in this world that you should never piss off. Make one mistake, and you’ll die a miserable death.”
With that, he pulled out his phone and sent a voler message to a friend. He ordered, “Come in and kill him!”
Then, he casually tossed his phone onto the table.
When Tessa heard the plan to kill Matthew, she got up in fright and headed for the exit.
She had thought that it would just be a beating That wouldn’t have tazed her. But murder? She didn’t want to go to
prison.
Jeffrey ordered in a cold tone, “Stay where you are. When he dies, you need to be a witness.”
Witness? Tessa was frightened and felt uneasy. “A witness to what?”
Jeffrey grinned maliciously. “Matthew tried to kill someone, so we acted in self–defense and accidentally killed him. You’ll be a witness to testify that Matthew deserved to die.”
Tessa had never been in a situation like this before. She was terrified and unsure of what to do. Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
Sensing her unease, Jeffrey smiled and reminded her, “Only I can save your company.”
