Chapter 8 Turning the Tables
Alicia remained unfazed. "It wasn't me." No matter how one heard it, it sounded like a feeble defense.
Edmond walked into the room, stubbing out his cigarette in the ashtray, then approached her. He cast a glance at her calm, beautiful eyes, his gaze drifting downward.
Her wine-red strap nightgown made the woman appear even more enchanting.
The man's bold gaze lingered on the pale skin below her collarbone.
"Were you unsatisfied that night?" His voice was full of enticing mischief, utterly incorrigible.
It reminded Alicia of that night. As he bent over her, whispering in her ear words that made her blush repeatedly, she bit his shoulder in exasperation, only to spur him into greater excitement.
She coldly turned her head away.
"Let's forget about that night. From now on, we'll live our separate lives, no crossing paths."
He raised an eyebrow. "We could try again. Today, and I'll make sure you're satisfied."
"There won't be a next time."
"We are legally married."
"So what? Are you suggesting you'll turn over a new leaf, never touch another woman for the rest of your life, preserving your virtue solely for me?" Alicia retorted sharply.
Edmond was about to respond when suddenly, the ring of a phone interrupted.
This time, it wasn't his phone.
Alicia quickly pushed him away, going to her vanity to grab her purse while answering the call, completely oblivious to Edmond's expression.
"Licia, I've completed the task you requested last time. I've sent it to your email."
"Thank you. I'll treat you to a meal." NôvelDrama.Org © 2024.
"A meal is too formal. How about a date? Licia, I saw the news today. Everyone's saying things about your husband. That's really unfortunate! If you need anything in the future, can you think of me first?"
Alicia was about to refuse, but upon hearing Edmond approaching, her face changed. She answered with a radiant smile.
"How about going out for a drink now? My treat."
Edmond heard this and immediately halted, no longer approaching Alicia.
The person on the other end of the call was ecstatic.
"Okay, I'll take a quick shower and head out. See you later!"
Ignoring Edmond, Alicia changed her clothes, even taking the time to spray Chanel perfume and apply her boldest lipstick.
The previous two times, Edmond was called away by Diane's incessant phone calls. This time, she finally had her revenge. Her mood was so light that even her steps seemed more buoyant.
Just as she reached the entrance to change her shoes, Edmond's cold voice echoed from the direction of the staircase.
"So eager to meet up with another man?"
Alicia turned to look at him.
"Why are you setting double standards?"
His gaze darkened a few shades.
Alicia scoffed, continuing, "If I'm going out to meet a man, you can go find a woman. Just don't bring her back home. If your mother finds out, you'll be scolded again."
Ding-dong-
The sudden ring of the doorbell startled Alicia.
She never expected the person at the door to be a teary-eyed Diane.
The moment the door opened, both women stared at each other in surprise.
Upon seeing Alicia's attire, then at her chest, Diane's face darkened.
Looking at Diane's pink strap dress, then at her chest, Alicia couldn't help but click her tongue disdainfully.
Diane was instantly irritated, wanting to retort. But catching sight of Edmond inside the house from the corner of her eye, she quickly changed her expression.
"Edmond! "
The man frowned. "Why are you here?"
"I..."
Just as Diane wanted to step in, Alicia abruptly blocked her.
She complained to Edmond, "Edmond, I really have an urgent matter to discuss with you. Can you tell her not to stop me?"
Before Edmond could respond, Alicia interjected.
"Sweetie, your things inside are skewed. One's bigger than the other. Why don't you adjust them before coming to seduce Edmond? He's got severe OCD, you know."
"..."
Diane's face flushed with fury.
