Chapter 9
Evan spotted Scarlett as well and was stunned. What was she doing here? Hadn’t she left?
His expression changed drastically, as if he was struck by lightning. If Scarlett heard everything, she would surely give up on Derick
Seeing Evan’s changing expression, Scarlett smirked. The atmosphere grew eetly silent.
“What are you doing here, Scarlett?” Evan stepped forward and looked at her nervously.
Derick frowned at Evan’s affectionate tone of addressing Scarlett
“Let me explain, Scarlett. What you heard was a misunderstanding-
“A misunderstanding?” Scarlett’s smile was filled with decision. “Durnb mannequin? Not fit to serve Eliza? Evan, I knew you were a scumbag and a simp, but I didn’t expect you to be lower than an animal. Do you get a kick out of playing people like this?”
“You” Evan’s eyes widened in shock.
Scarlett sneered, thinking to herself that even the spoiled heir of the Mitchell family, who had no one to rein him in, could still face some hardships.
“Mr. Mitchell, you look like you have misfortune clinging to you. Maybe you should stop putting on airs in front of me. Did you know that your second antique porcelain is a fake? Perhaps you should go impress someone else with your bravado,” Scarlett said.
Evan froze, disbelief written all over his face. How could the antique porcelain be take?
“What do you know, Scarlett? That porcelain is from a different era. It can’t be a fake.” It was something his grandfather had spent a fortune acquiring from abroad.
Scarlett’s lips curved into a gleaming smile. “Your confidence is admirable.”
With that, she turned and walked toward the stairs. Since her pregnancy, taking the elevator made her nauseous, so she preferred the stairs. 1
She didn’t look back at Derick, but Evan’s words made her understand why Derick had never publicly acknowledged their marriage.
Her beartached with a sadness she couldn’t control.
“Evan, Scarlett is just a country bumpkin who doesn’t understand anything. Don’t take her words to heart,” Eliza quickly reassured Evan, her voice taking on an unusually gentle tope Exclusive content © by Nô(v)el/Dr/ama.Org.
Just as Evan was about to lash out at Scarlett, his assistant hurried over.
“We’ve got a problem, Mr. Mitchell The antique porcelain is a take. The buyer is causing a scene in the auction house.”
Biza’s face flushed with embarrassment at those words. How did Scarlett spot the fake?
Evan frowned as he quickly headed to the auction house
Meanwhile, Eliza hurned around, only to find that Derick was nowhere in sight A nagging sense of unease clept over her.
Where could he have gone?
As she was about to search for him, her phone rang.
“Dad”
“Liz, did you get the new product information from Derick?
Eliza’s eyes gleamed with greed as she thought about the documents she had seen. “I’ve got it, Dad, and I’ve already set up a scapegoat. Don’t worry.”
Scarlett arrived at the underground parking lot and headed straight for her car. As she was about to open the door, a powerful hand grabbed her wrist. She looked up to find Derick’s dark, sinister eyes staring back at her. Her heart raced, and she tried to pull away. “Let go, Derick”
But Derick tightened his grip. His gaze was dark and menacing, like that of a devil
Suddenly, he gripped her neck with his other hand and trailed his finger down to her delicate collarbone.
She only made him more greedy. His deep, melodious voice was both captivating and entrancing. “Tell me What’s your relationship with van?
