Part 05 # The Real Suspect
“Excuse me…”
“Yes, nurse! How did it go?” Bi Yani asked anxiously as a nurse emerged from the operating room. The emergency lights had dimmed, signaling the end of the surgery.
“Thank goodness. The patient and her baby are safe, ma’am. Don’t worry. The patient is recovering,” the nurse explained with a reassuring smile.
“Thank goodness. Thank you, Nurse!” Bi Yani replied with immense relief. Her prayers seemed to have been answered.
“You’re welcome.”
The nurse, after inquiring about her relationship with Mrs. Lara, assumed Bi Yani was the patient’s mother. Bi Yani simply replied that she was Lara’s assistant, though the nurse remarked on her familial concern.
“We are indeed family,” Bi Yani said.
The nurse smiled and waved before leaving.
Bi Yani returned to the waiting chair, tears of joy streaming down her face. “Mrs. Lara, thank goodness…” she whispered, kissing the hospital floor in gratitude.
Her employer’s safety had been her top priority. She couldn’t bear the thought of Mrs. Lara suffering alone.
Just then, a familiar voice echoed down the hallway.
“Lara! My wife! Where is she?!”
Bi Yani froze. It was Mr. Seno. She hesitated, knowing she might face his wrath for not informing him earlier. He quickly approached the nurse station, and their eyes met. Bi Yani’s heart pounded with fear.
“Mr…” she stammered, her knees trembling.
“You audacious wretch! How dare you not contact me! Worthless servant!”
*Slap!*
Seno’s hand struck her cheek, and Bi Yani fell near his feet. With trembling hands, she reached for his polished shoe, begging for forgiveness.
“I-I’m sorry, sir…” she said, bowing her head. She saw him almost lift his shoe to step on her head, but a shout from the direction of the operating room stopped him.
“What is this?!” A doctor in dark blue scrubs emerged from the room, glaring at Seno.
Seno cleared his throat and stepped back, refraining from further violence. Bi Yani was lucky; she had been saved by the doctor.
“Doctor, how is my wife?” Seno asked, approaching the doctor. Bi Yani slumped back, trying to avoid further confrontation.
The tall doctor seemed displeased with Seno’s presence. His sour expression was evident.
“Calm down, sir. Your wife is in recovery. The critical situation has been overcome. You don’t need to worry,” the doctor explained.
“I’m very worried! That wretched maid didn’t contact me. My assistant called and said my wife was critical. I was almost driven insane!” Seno’s concern seemed disingenuous, a smirk playing at the corners of his mouth.
“Are you her husband?” the doctor asked incredulously.
“Yes, I’m Lara’s husband. Do you know my wife?” Seno replied sarcastically.
“Why were you not aware of your wife’s condition? Are you… never at home? The patient is experiencing acute stress, and it’s an accumulative condition, not just today,” the doctor continued to interrogate Seno.
Bi Yani felt a sense of relief. The doctor seemed to channel all of Mrs. Lara’s frustrations toward Seno. If she could cheer, she would, but she remained silent, knowing her job was at stake.Exclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.
“Ah. I have been on a business trip abroad for some time. So, I haven’t returned yet. Wait. Why should I explain this to you?” Seno retorted, starting to refuse the doctor’s questions.
“You seem to be interrogating me,” Seno protested again, and the doctor sighed, removing his medical mask.
“I’m Doctor Andre. I’m responsible for your wife. Nice to meet you.” The doctor extended his hand.
“Seno,” Seno replied, shaking the doctor’s hand like a business partner. They seemed to be engaged in a silent power struggle.
“Hey, you!”
Bi Yani flinched when Seno called her.
“Yes, sir?” she said fearfully, bowing her head.
“Tomorrow, you must quit your job! I suspected it. You must be incompetent! Lara always chooses the wrong people!”
“Sir… please,” she pleaded, hoping for his understanding.
“Sorry if I seem to interfere, but… this woman has been with the patient since earlier. I’m not sure firing her would be wise. Will Mrs. Lara accept it, Seno?” Doctor Andre interjected, staring directly at Seno.
Seno seemed to ponder the doctor’s words. Bi Yani felt a glimmer of hope.
“Uh… um, sir. Mrs. Lara forbade me from contacting you earlier. After that, a young lady came to your residence,” Bi Yani finally revealed.
“W-what?”
Seno’s face turned pale. He had not expected his affair to nearly cause Lara to miscarry.
“Tell me! What does the girl look like?” Seno demanded.
“T-the young lady is slender with heavy makeup. She has shoulder-length blonde hair and wears black sunglasses. She wore a tight, bright red outfit. Mrs. Lara was furious when the girl arrived,” Bi Yani replied, trembling.
“Damn.”
Doctor Andre looked puzzled but remained silent.
“Olivia!” Seno muttered the name. Was that the girl’s name?
“I’ll be back!” he said abruptly, and Bi Yani nodded, lowering her gaze. She heard Seno’s shoes retreating and his voice as he called someone on his phone, presumably Olivia.
