Chapter 11 You Dream Well
Vanessa, who was engrossed in socializing, was suddenly pulled by Joseph into a dimly lit corner of the banquet hall.
“Joseph”
Upon seeing Joseph, Vanessa’s face lit up with a hint of joy.
However, Joseph’s expression was far from pleasant. He tightly gripped Vanessa’s wrist and said coldly, “Didn’t I tell you not to argue with Maggie? Can’t you think before you speak and act?”
Caught off guard by the scolding. Vanessa’s face darkened.
“Whether or not the Adams acknowledge my identity is just a matter of time. If you want to bring down the Adams, you don’t need her at all.”
“I don’t care what reasons you have. You’re not allowed to let Maggie find out about us!” Joseph’s gaze darkened, clearly displeased with Vanessa’s recent behavior.-
Reluctantly. Vanessa looked at him with teary eyes and said, “Have you really fallen for that woman? Didn’t you see how she treated me at the banquet?”
Joseph didn’t directly answer. He simply said, “That’s because you spoke arrogantly first. If you hadn’t revealed yourself so easily, she wouldn’t have seen through it!”
Hearing his defense of Maggie, Vanessa felt a surge of anger. She grabbed Joseph’s arm and continued, Joseph, I noticed that Nathael seems to treat Maggie differently. Maybe they are already involved.”
Joseph furrowed his brows, giving her a cold look. If she has that ability, then so be it.” NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.
Vanessa was speechless, unable to discern Joseph’s true attitude toward Maggie.
When Maggie returned to the banquet, Mr. and Mrs. Adam happened to be on stage, announcing Vanessa’s background.
Mr. Adam was a gentle and refined man, tall and handsome. He bore a striking resemblance to Ericko but with a slightly more distant demeanor. On the other hand, Mrs. Adam’s complexion v somewhat pale. Despite her ailing appearance, her beauty was still apparent.
“We sincerely thank all the guests for joining us today to celebrate. At the same time, we would like to take this opportunity to announce something our long–lost daughter of the Adams, after many years, has finally returned!”
–
Phillip was visibly excited, his eyes brimming with tears. He tightly held the microphone, and his face radiated unrestrained joy.
Maggie stood below the stage, looking at this familiar yet unfamiliar couple. Tears welled up in her eyes.
In her previous life, after Vanessa impersonated her identity, she took advantage of Mr. and Mrs. Adam’s trust and guilt. Collaborating with Joseph, they quickly depleted the Adams‘ resources. Meanwhile, with Nathael’s assistance, they inflicted further damage on the Adams from the outside.
After centuries as an illustrious family, the grand mansion finally collapsed amidst chaos and bloodshed.
Mrs. Adam, burdened by the loss of her daughter, carried the weight in her heart all those years. When Vanessa falsely claimed to be their daughter, Mrs. Adam’s health improved somewhat. However, the restored joy was shattered upon learning the truth, replaced by deep sorrow.
Therefore, upon discovering Vanessa’s deceitful nature, Mrs. Adam fell gravely ill and, ultimately, passed away.
With Mrs. Adam’s passing, the Adams faced financial ruin. Exhausted from social obligations, Ericko met with a fatal car accident one night, leading to his immediate death.
Maggie’s eyes welled up with tears, and her heart was heavy with distress.
She didn’t know how much involvement the Camerons had in these events, but it seemed that the Adams. had never given up on finding her over the years. In contrast, the Camerons were aware of her true identity and deliberately concealed it, causing harm among close relatives.
It was a vicious calculation with dire consequences!
“Yes, Vanessa is indeed my daughter, who was lost to me for many years. Fiona and I owe her so much. From now on, we will do our best to make amends. We hope that all of you will take good care of this unfortunate child in our fate.”
Phillip gazed affectionately at Vanessa in the audience.
Mrs. Adam, Fiona Xavier, couldn’t contain her emotions and quickly walked over to Vanessa, tightly holding her hand. “Nana… is it really you?”
Fiona had only just learned moments ago that Phillip had found their daughter after many years of separation. Concerned about her fragile health, Phillip had kept it a secret until everything was settled, intending to surprise Fiona when the time was right.
“Mom?” Vanessa seemed to be moved as well, speaking tentatively with a choked voice.
Tears welled up in Fiona’s eyes as she tightly held Vanessa’s hand. “Nana… Nana… I’m sorry. I didn’t take good care of you!”
Grandpa Adam also smiled and said, “Vanessa, feel free to ask for anything you need in the future.”
“Congratulations, Vanessa!” exclaimed Vanessa’s friends, unable to contain their admiration.
“Adam, your daughter is stunning. It’s clear she’s an exceptional girl!”
“That’s right, her name is Vanessa, isn’t it? Introduce my little rascal to them when you get the chance.”
“Ms. Adam has an elegant demeanor, clearly a well–bred young lady from a distinguished family.”
Compliments continued to surround them from all sides, and whispers among the crowd joined in. “She’s really fortunate. From now on, Vanessa is destined for success!
“What do you mean by destined for success? Clearly, she has suffered and struggled for more than twenty years. Otherwise, these years/should have been ones of comfort and luxury for a young lady of her status.”
“Is she the woman who had a conflict with Mr. Harris just now?”
“Yes, it’s her. But with the protection of the Adams, I’m sure Mr. Harris will show her some respect.”
Surrounded by a crowd in the center, Vanessa had become the center of attention at this moment.
Vanessa had a radiant smile on her face, her eyes filled with joy. There was no trace of the unease and awkwardness she had displayed when facing Nathael just moments ago.
Maggie remained calm as well. She stood on the outskirts of the crowd, observing the scene from a distance.
The saying goes, “To make something perish, first make it go mad.”
Considering the many years of their relationship, she didn’t mind letting Vanessa enjoy her happiness for a while longer.
Perhaps sensing her gaze, Vanessa looked up and then took the initiative to walk towards Maggie.
“Maggie, why aren’t you offering your congratulations to me?”
Maggie smiled knowingly and said, “Congratulations.”
Vanessa furrowed her brow, feeling a hint of discomfort. However, in the next moment, she reasoned that Maggie might be expressing insincere words out of hidden resentment and jealousy.
She leaned close to Maggie’s car, a touch of pride in her voice, and whispered, “Can you even imagine? I turned out to be the heiress of the Adams. You, a servant–born illegitimate child, what do you have to compare to me?”
Maggie lowered her gaze and said slowly, “I thought we were, at least, friends.”
Unexpectedly, Vanessa harbored hatred towards her!
It seems she misjudged people. Even in the previous life, within a year of Vanessa’s return to the Adams, they had a falling out and became completely estranged.
“Huh, friends? Maggie, stop pretending to be so righteous! Do you feel proud being friends with the daughter of a drunkard when you’re the young lady of the Camerons?”
“You’re just using me to elevate your status and beauty, aren’t you?”
“Don’t think I don’t see through your intentions. It’s truly disgusting. I’ll tell you, from now on, you’re the one who has to watch your step. The Camerons, no matter how powerful, can’t compare to the Adams. Besides, you’re just an illegitimate child picked up by the Camerons. What’s there to be arrogant about?”
As if finding a release, Vanessa poured out the thoughts buried in her heart. In the end, she sneered. “But if you lower your head and beg me, I might consider continuing our friendship.”
Maggie chuckled, her almond–shaped eyes cold. “You have quite the imagination.”
As her words faded, Ericko’s voice resonated from the platform. “I sincerely apologize to everyone. It appears that there was an error in the verification process concerning my sister. I regret to inform you all that Ms. Vanessa Adam is not related to me.”
