It was One Night Only

We are all sitting in the dining room apart from each other as if we were at a business meeting. Noah was gently munching on the food. I need a conversation starter.

“How was the office today?” I ask Noah but his eyes never leave the plate of rice in his front.

“It was lovely I had a very nice day today didn’t we Noah?” Nichole asked smirking.

The next words were even a surprise to me that I could put up such an act. “Wow, then I need a new work because my husband and best friend had a blast today,” I say trying as much as possible to make sure my smile seems real.

Noah looks up at me for a split second before looking back down. I could tell that Nichole expected me to be sad about her and Noah but I am going to be mature about it.

“Liliana really did it well with this food today,” Nichole said changing the topic. I wanted to correct her that Pat was in duty not Liliana but she was like talking to a brick wall. “Don’t you think so Noah?” she asked.

“It is nice” Noah spoke finally what I had been trying to make him do. It’s obvious I’m nothing to him. Why didn’t I listen to my mom? Why didn’t I just become a single mom with her baby’s daddy somewhere else? I feel so frustrated. Nichole’s smirk was so victorious and I knew the underlined meaning in her smirk. She could get Noah to do what I could get him to do even though I was married to him.

“Is it?” I ask preparing myself to tell them I made it.

“Yes it’s extremely marvelous,” Nichole said and took another spoonful of the rice in her front. It was fried rice and some chicken.

“That’s because Mrs. Lorraine made it,” Pat said bringing in the chocolate pudding for dessert.

Nichole’s spoon stopped halfway through the air.

“Stop joking around Liliana,” Nichole said to her.

“It’s Pat and I’m not joking,” Pat told her and she frowned.

“Whatever Pat. You can clear that table I’m no longer hungry anymore” Nichole said.

“But you were enjoying the meal a little while ago,” Pat said mockingly and Nichole became red.

“Noah good night. I have had a hectic day. See you tomorrow” she said with a wink before pushing herself off the table and out of the room.

What did that wink mean? Are they having something together? Are they probably having an affair? Doesn’t she have her own boyfriend? These thoughts are making me sick.

Noah suddenly drank some water forgetting dessert and left the room as quickly behind Nichole as possible.

“Pat clean up I am going to bed,” I tell her and she hands me an encouraging smile.

“Good night ma’am” she calls after me.

I climb the stairs as gently as possible and get up. I hear the voices of Noah and Nichole. I follow it there and I see them sitting on a bench outside there talking Noah was actually smiling with her. Why the hell are you still here? I scream internally. I make a show of hitting things on my way as I go to the room. I have to talk to Noah this night so no matter what I am going to have to stay awake even though the baby wants rest.

Finally, after some time I hear his footsteps some closer and he enters the door. He sees me sitting on the couch in the corner. He turns and gets into his pajamas. He mumbled and then climbed into bed without even a word to me and he was just chatting so happily with Nichole a few minutes ago.

I walk up to him and hit him slightly on the hand. This gave me a Deja Vu feeling when I found myself awake on a similar bed with him. “Noah” I finally speak after staring at him like a freak that I am.

He turns to me blue orbs staring at me. “We need to talk,” I say when he finds me standing there.

“I’m really tired can we talk tomorrow?” he asked cutely.

“You can spare a few minutes for me. You were chatting happily with Nichole just a few moments ago and now you are tired?” I say in an exasperated tone that causes his eyes to widen.

“We were speaking about work,” he said trying to get up from the bed.

“And we have to talk about our lives and the baby,” I say. He looks at me and hesitates for some time before sitting up and staring at me.

“Make it quick,” he said looking away.

“What are we doing?” I asked him and he furrowed his eyebrows.

“Living?” he answered in a question form again.

“Noah, you ignore me like a plague and you think it’s very nice for you to talk to your ex like you feel and you let her live I’m your house and let her work for you?” I say with some much need to let him know what I’m feeling right now. “You treat me like I’m nobody since we came back from the wedding g I have been a stranger. If you were going to treat me like I didn’t exist then why did you suggest marriage to me” I cry out. “And why did I accept” I say mumbling mostly to myself. He wasn’t speaking.

“Aren’t you going to say anything?” I asked frustrated at his attitude towards me right now.

“Rachael, I’m sorry if you feel that I have been ignoring you I have been very busy but I wasn’t the one that started the ignoring game,” he said and I looked at him he was right. I got angry at him for his rudeness and left from there.

“You were too rude to me,” I say and he nods.Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.

“Yeah I’m sorry about that,” he says. “We will make it work for the baby,” he said placing his hand on my tummy. Everything was all good but it was better than where we were yesterday.

“For the baby,” I say putting my hands on his. It felt right there.
