Chapter 4
Chapter 4
If I had to take a guess, I'd say that Oliver was around Lucas age, maybe a few years older. He
seemed nice, but I'd barely known him for a day, so it was hard to say.
"Well then, I really don't know if running in skinny jeans are the optimal choice, but it worked earlier
right?" I asked rhetorically, but they still nodded.
"We're off as soon as the others arrive... Where's James and Peter, by the way?"
I looked around the room and shrugged.
"Probably on the second floor or at the toilet or something" I guessed and he seemed to agree.
"We should pack some bags, so we can put stuff we find in it" A new voice said and I turned around
and was pleased to see Peter.
"Have you seen James?" Lucas took the opportunity to ask.
"Yeah, he's upstairs fixing our sleeping area" Peter answered, pointing up the stairs.
"OI, JAMES?" He yelled.
"YEAH?" We heard someone, probably James yell back.
"COME DOWN AND GRAB A BACKPACK OR TWO WHILE YOU'RE AT IT"
I furrowed my brow, my ears were extra sensitive right now, especially since I had a headache.
"YEAH, YEAH, WHATEVER"
Peter chuckled and smiled for himself.
We soon heard footsteps coming down the stairs and James appeared.
"Here you go" He said to me as he handed me a backpack while smiling.
The man, who seemed to be in Peters age or older also handed Lucas a backpack and gave him the
same warm smile, which he returned.
About an hour later, the doors in the front opened and five panting people came through them.
"We're back motherf*ckers!" A petite girl with short dark hair yelled.
I raised an brow and she had a smug look on her face.
I saw some of the older people look at Harry and then back at her with an disapproving look.
"Great, then it's time for us to leave" I broke the awkward silence and took the knife from the girl.
"I'm pretty sure I need this more than you do now" I said, while she handed me it with an amused
smirk.
What the heck was her problem?
"Did you see any zombies?" Peter asked a boy from the group and he shook his head.
"We kept walking in the same direction we did earlier and eventually ended up in the town next to us,
but it was completely dead over there. No one was outside and the houses seemed empty."
"There was people outside though" The girl I'd started to dislike, added.
"But they were dead" The boy said, with a cold glare at the girl.
She shrugged and I frowned.
How could she be so indifferent about all of this?
"Let's go" I muttered and grabbed Lucas wrist, surprising us both.
He however, didn't say anything and we were soon outside.
"Are you to tired to run or are we good?" Oliver asked, as he started to jog.
"Maybe we can jog fast or run slow?" Peter suggested.
"Mm sure" We agreed and we were soon running past the trees listening to the birds singing.
The world still seemed so peaceful, I was expecting clouds and rain but of course the weather didn't
change just because we were going through a zombie apocalypse.
"So we're going to the town they just visited?" I asked, seeing as we were running in that direction.
"Yeah, it seemed safe enough and we can break into the houses or some shop and take food and
maybe even find a gun or two" James answered.
"Wouldn't that be stealing?" Oliver stupidly asked and I rolled my eyes.
Okay, calm down Raven. Stop being such a grumpy cat.
James just stared at him and Oliver looked down at his feet, bro ably realizing what a dumb question
he asked.
A stupid, stupid thing to do while running.
"Oooff"
And that's what it sounds like when you run straight into a tree.
"Oh bloody hell!" I cussed and stopped running.
I jogged over to Oliver who was now groaning at the ground.
"Real clever" I sarcastically remarked and he glared at me.
"Just help me up" He muttered and I grabbed his arms and pulled him up.
"Are you okay, mate?" Peter asked, he looked rather concerned, which I was too. But I'd guess it was
for different reasons.
He was probably concerned for his physical health, while I was concerned for his mental health.
I mean, who runs into a freaking tree just like that.
"Okay let's keep moving" James voice snapped me out of my thoughts and I started to run after them. I
could feel my legs getting tired, but I couldn't complain.
"Oi, Luke!" I called, mentally face palming.
Why did I call him Luke? Maybe he doesn't like to be called Luke?
God damn it Raven, why must you be such an awk-
"Yeah?" I forgot about my internal battle and looked forward where Lucas eyes met mine.
He raised his eyebrows and I gave him a foolish smile.
"Wait for me to catch up?" I asked more than demanded.
He ran slower and I was soon by his side.
"So which college did you go to?" I asked him, a little bit bored. I was also trying to distract myself from
the tiredness I was starting to feel.
"I went to Oxford" He said it like it wasn't a big deal and my jaw dropped.
"That's so cool!" I said with a fascinated grin.
"Yeah, it's pretty nice" He admitted and I looked at him with awe.
When I looked away from him I realized that we were getting closer, because I could glimpse a house
just a little bit further away.
"Look" I said, pointing towards the house.
A minute later, we came to the end of the forest and we hid behind a few trees to make sure it looked
safe.
But the other group were true to their words, because the place looked completely desert.
It was sick that only a few hours ago, people were taking their dogs for walks and playing footballs in
their gardens.
I sighed but lit up when I saw a big Shopping Centre.
"We should look over there" I said, pointing towards the big building.
"Maybe we should split up?" Peter suggested and I nodded.
"Lucas and Raven, you can look for weapons while we get food"
We quietly made our way to the shopping Centre.
I squeezed my eyes shut every time we saw a dead body.
I let out a quiet scream of horror when I saw a small girl with her throat and chest completely covered in
blood with a big open wound where her heart were supposed to be pounding.
Lucas squeezed my shoulder and I actually hugged him. He froze at first, but soon relaxed and
returned the comforting hug. He smelled like forest and mint. A weird combination that surprisingly
worked together.
For f*cks sake Raven, don't smell him.
When we arrived we ran up the still working escalator and I felt goosebumps crawl up my arms.
It was scary to see that everything was still working.
I guess no one took the time to turn things off.
"Jackpot" I cheered when I saw an arms deal.
The great thing with living outside the big cities were that thy sold out weapons like it was candy.
The door still stood open and we quietly made our way inside.
"Let's go for small handguns, we'll be able to fit more of them into our backpacks" Lucas reasoned and
I agreed with a small nod.
Something behind glass caught my eyes.
It was one of those fancy guns with designs all over it. NôvelDrama.Org holds © this.
It was a black gun with bronze scrolls all over it and I bit my lip.
I wanted that gun.
"Oi Luke!" I called again and he looked over at me. Probably wondering why I wasn't stuffing my
backpack with guns yet.
I nodded towards the gun and he glared at me as if to say 'really?'.
I grinned and he stood up.
"Okay.. But I want the dark silver one with black carvings" He whispered, also grinning.
We're such child's, always wanting the shiniest and prettiest things.
"We take them last though, just in case someone could hear us break the glass"
I gave thumbs up and we packed some ammo and a few more guns.
We soon stood in front of the glass protected guns.
"One... Two... Three!" Lucas took one of the bigger rifle guns and smacked it against the glass, making
the glass shatter in peaces.
And then we heard the alarm.
"Oh fück" I heard Lucas cuss and we quickly grabbed our guns and started running back.
"WHAT DID YOU DO?" James yelled at us and Lucas and I looked at each other, mirroring each others
embarrassed expression.
"OH MY F*CK" I screamed when I heard something crash just next to us.
It was a toy store the noise came from and I took a few steps back, making me back into Lucas.
Out came a small boy, he looked like he was around Harry's age or even younger and I took a breath of
relief.
But when he turned around I got a lump in my throat.
The skin and flesh was missing at his back and you could see ribs and inner organs from behind.
And that's when I couldn't hold it in any longer.
I started to cry.
"We- we can't kill him" I choked out.
Lucas wore a frown and I looked at him and then James with pleading eyes.
"Can't we just leave?" I asked quietly.
"We should end his suffering" James said, with a sad frown.
I cried even harder, tears were falling down my cheeks.
"Please" I begged, my voice breaking.
"He's just a little boy" I continued and I saw James hesitate.
Peter looked devastated and Lucas looked just as sad. I saw tears starting to form in Oliver's eyes too.
The boy came running back towards us with big dull eyes.
"Let's go" Lucas decided and he put his hand at the small of my back, pushing me slightly to make me
start running.
I was still crying and my vision was blurred by the tears.
I felt something against my foot and fell.
Bloody hell.
I didn't dare to look at what I've fallen over, but luckily Lucas offered a tattoo covered hand to help me
up.
"Are you okay?" He asked, his greens eyes filled with worry and I shook my head.
"No I'm not" I answered truthfully.
"Me neither" I heard him quietly mumble, a frown taking over his handsome features.
