Independence 309

Chapter 0309

Hansel opened the most recent video file from the past month.

Ingrid had already fallen asleep, but she instantly woke up when she heard the sound of the door opening downstairs. A smile unknowingly spread on her face.

Evelyn left after saying such harsh words. It had only been a few hours, yet she had already returned.

Hmph, Evelyn was nothing but a pathetic old witch! She wouldn’t have the guts to leave her here all alone. After all, Ingrid still had five billion dollars in her belly.

She wasn’t afraid of Evelyn’s threats.

Since Evelyn was back, Martha and Sarah would probably come along as well. Just perfect, she was feeling hungry. She wanted to ask Sarah to make some soup for her.

Ingrid wandered around the living room, then she went to the kitchen. However, there wasn’t anyone in sight. Puzzled, she glanced around.

Suddenly, she caught sight of a pair of men’s leather shoes at the entrance.

Was Hansel back?

Ingrid’s eyes flickered as she hurried to the bedroom and changed into a nightgown. Then, she made her way to the study quietly.

Ingrid knocked on the door. “Hans, did you just come home?”

She was clearly playing dumb. The light in the study was on. Who else could it be but Hansel?

Just as Ingrid thought she wouldn’t get a response, Hansel’s deep voice came from inside,” Come in.”

She suppressed the glee in her heart and opened the door with a smile. “Hans…”

Hansel looked up at the woman approaching him. She was dressed in a nightgown made of red–lace. The material at her chest was see–through and two thin straps clung to her delicate shoulders.Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.

There was no hint of elegance about her, leaving only wantonness.

Ingrid softened her tone when she saw the calm expression on Hansel’s face. “When did you get back? Were you working overtime again? You must be exhausted since you’ve been working non–stop for more than two weeks. Come, let me give you a massage.”

Ingrid voluntarily found a suitable explanation for Hansel not returning home for more than half a month. The pleasant smile on her face bore no sign of resentment, as if the intense conflict they had from before had never even happened.

Hansel noticed the deferential smile on Ingrid’s face, but he no longer cared. He realized that he was more disgusted with himself than her. No matter how much he loathed Ingrid, the situation wouldn’t change.

been home for over half a month. Don’t you miss me or the baby?”

Ingrid was stunned when Hansel grabbed her wandering hands. “Do you know who’s been in the study and moved my documents?”

Ingrid laughed. “How would I know? Although it’s very likely that Mrs. Johnson did it, I don’t think she did it on purpose. Nothing can come between a mother and son. Even if Mrs. Johnson is really the culprit, don’t let it bother you…”

Hansel had a half–smile on his face. “Is that so?”

Ingrid continued with a sigh, “Mrs. Johnson got really angry, so she took Martha and the others back to the Johnson estate. I didn’t dare to stop her, but the baby and I still need people to take care of us. Given the situation, what do you think we should do?”

Hansel asked, “What do you want, then?”

“Well, Mrs. Johnson is still upset, so we should just let her be. But surely you can leave Martha, Sarah, and Dan with me, right?”

Hansel let out a cold laugh, which took Ingrid by surprise.

He spoke once more, “I’ll ask you one last time. Are you sure it was my mother who tampered with the documents?”

Ingrid’s gaze flickered. “Mrs. Johnson is the most likely suspect. Isn’t that an accepted fact?”

Suddenly, Hansel stood up and slapped her twice across the face. Next, he grabbed Ingrid by the hair and pressed her face against the screen. “Then how do you explain this?”
