Chapter 557 We Will Not Accept Her

Lin Shuqin froze as he could not believe that her own son would say something like that. “But, her background-”

She shut the door while the conversation replayed in her head. Fu Ling only smiled, and it was not a pleasant one. Her head dropped, and her fingers shivered. She sighed and went back into the bathroom after a while.

Fu Ling expected that she would not be able to fall asleep. In reality, she had been busy lately and was tired. After blowing her hair dry, she slept soundly on the bed.

It was late in the night when the bedroom door was pushed open. Su Shaoqing came in as his gaze fell on Fu Ling’s face. Even though it was dark, he could still see her face at a glance.

Since he had previously been trained in the army, his vision was exceptionally keen, as was his night vision. He approached Fu Ling and sat on the edge of the bed as he looked at Fu Ling’s sleeping face.

He reached out his hand, wanting to caress her. Just when his hand was near her cheek, he hesitated. In the darkness, he stared at Fu Ling as a feeling of nostalgia struck him. It was as if time had frozen in place.

Fu Ling had no idea Su Shaoqing had entered the room and was watching her sleep, nor did she realize he had been sitting on the bed the whole night.

When Fu Ling awoke the next morning, she could smell a familiar scent in the air but had no idea what it was. She then took a whiff of the blanket, and it had the same smell.

She frowned deeply but did nothing else. She quickly went to wash up and changed into the clothes Su Shaoqing had given her the day before.

To be honest, Lin Shuqin’s body was still in good shape despite her getting old. Fu Ling’s body was similar to Lin Shuqin’s, with the exception that Fu Ling was slightly taller.

Su Shaoqing had given her a cheongsam. Fu Ling, who came from a prestigious scholar family, adored cheongsam, especially custom-made ones. Knowing that, Su Shaoqing had asked Lin Shuqin to pick some of her cheongsams for Fu Ling. Despite her reluctance, Lin Shuqin chose two decent cheongsams that would look excellent on Fu Ling.

Fu Ling put on the clothes after taking a look at them. The clothes appeared to be brand new, and they unexpectedly fit her size.

Su Shaoqing’s room did not have a mirror. After looking around the room, she believed that Su Shaoqing rarely lived there, so the blanket and bedsheet had been recently cleaned.

Fu Ling came out of the room and saw that Su Shaoqing had just left the study. He, too, had changed into new and refreshing clothes. Su Shaoqing’s eyes flashed with amazement when he noticed her.

However, he hid his emotions when their eyes met. He then walked toward her and asked, “Did you sleep well yesterday?”

Fu Ling nodded. “Yeah!”

He gave a smile as his gaze returned to her body once again. This time, it was just simple admiration. “It’s beautiful!”

Her heart skipped a beat when she heard that. As they locked eyes with each other, her heart pounded slightly faster.

Fu Ling furrowed her brows as she clenched her fists tightly. She lifted her head and looked at Su Shaoqing calmly. “Well, Mrs. Su has good taste!”

Su Shaoqing pursed his lips, clearly annoyed by what she had just said. However, she did not intend to prolong her engagement with him. “Mr. Su, it’s getting late. I’ll head to work first.”

“Ling!” Su Shaoqing quickly grabbed her hand. “Have some breakfast before you go!”

Fu Ling frowned and replied, “No, I’m going to be late.”

Fu Ling did not forget how the Su family treated her. She also knew from the beginning that Lin Shuqin did not like her.

Staying at the Su residence was already her limit. Having breakfast with the Su family in the early morning was not something she could possibly do. Not to mention, although not being in a more urban area like the Fu residence, the Su residence was still far from the city. If Fu Ling ate breakfast, she would have difficulty calling a cab and would be late to work.

Fu Ling couldn’t think of any more excuses as she nodded in response to Su Shaoqing’s insistence on her. “All right. Then, I’m counting on you. The clothes…” She bit her lip and continued, “I’ll return it after I wash it.”

Upon hearing that, Su Shaoqing frowned. “It’s yours now. You don’t have to return it!” Besides, Fu Ling’s words suggested that she was not going to come back.

Following that, they both went downstairs. Except for Su Yunwan and Lin Shuqin, as well as Su Yumin, Su Huainan, and Su Huaibei, all members of the Su family had arrived. One of Su Shaoqing’s aunts

Fu Ling knew of the remaining people, and because of that, she was even more eager to leave.

Su Shaoqing paused for a while before smiling. “Grandpa, Father, Ling is going to be late for work, and I have some business at the hospital. I’m leaving now.”

Su Huainan let out a long sigh as he wanted to say something but was stopped by Lin Shuqin, shaking her head.

Su Huainan then glanced at Su Yumin. Su Yumin’s face darkened as he slammed the table. “Since when is that woman back? Why is she here?”

He had slept early the night before, so he was unaware that Fu Ling was there. On the other hand, Lin Shuqin informed Su Huainan after he returned home.

Su Huaibei was unsure about the situation because he had just come home. However, from Su Yumin’s tone, he immediately knew that Su Yumin did not like Fu Ling.

“Why aren’t you talking?”

“Last night, Shaoqing brought her back!” Su Yunwan answered as she added, “Dad, let’s eat!”

Su Yumin snorted. “I disapprove. I will never approve of her marrying into the Su family. Keep this in mind, everyone.” As he put on a darkened face, it was not a pleasant breakfast for the rest.

Fu Ling could not have been unaware that the Su family despised her. It was just that she was used to it and did not give it much thought. After all, she had no intention of being with Su Shaoqing.

Along the way, Fu Ling was very silent. Su Shaoqing thought her mood was down and stopped the car before they arrived at the company.

Su Shaoqing tightened his grasp as he said it. She did not intend to respond, but as she struggled to break free from his grip, she realized it was pointless.

Fu Ling stared into his eyes, and she suddenly smiled. He was taken aback by her smile. She then immediately switched to glaring at him as she said, “Su Shaoqing, who do you think you are? Just because you want to date me, you’re forcing me to only be with you?”

She paused for a while before continuing, “I’ve already told you that I’m not the Fu Ling you used to know. I’m not the girl who used to bother you and orbit around you even though you didn’t love me. The girl you used to know died three years ago. I’m Gu Ling now. I don’t love you, and nothing you do can change that.”

Fu Ling stared at him coldly and added, “So, I advise you to not waste any more time on me.”
