I Once Married You (Harper and Benjamin)

Chapter 21

Can You Help?

"Okay, you handle that. What about the other company?" Harper said.

"I checked. Their boss, Mr. Turner, has a bad reputation in the industry. They've been losing money for years, tons of layoffs... Barely hanging on by a thread."

She nodded.

Frank added, "Should we confront them directly?"

"It would be pointless to confront them now."

But pointless or not, they had to move forward.

An hour later, they carefully compared the color palettes and posted both the copied and original designs on a forum. A few folks who could see the difference supported them, but most thought they were merely trying to shift the blame.

By the afternoon, there were people lurking around the company, harassing anyone trying to get in or out. This whole thing was spiraling out of control.

Harper had no choice but to call Yohan herself.

When the call connected, she cut to the chase. "Mr. Turner, we're all trying to make a living here. Isn't this a little over the top?"

"I don't know what you're talking about. Don't throw around baseless accusations. I could sue you for defamation," Yohan snapped back.

Harper's head throbbed. "Mr. Turner, does your company actually have proof that we copied anything? Accusing us without any proof by just throwing around a couple of pictures? That's some serious defamation, isn't it?"

"Listen up, missy. You better watch your mouth. If you are a real deal, you shouldn't be afraid of others messing with you. Disagree? Then prove your case. Otherwise, you better apologize and get out of this business, or you'll bear the consequences."

Yohan then hung up, giving Harper no chance to respond.

Harper seethed. This man was twisting the truth!

She took a deep breath, struggling to control the fury rising inside her.

If it had been a year ago, she would've exploded already.

But now, she had no choice but to restrain herself.

Harper told Frank, "The company might need to shut down for a few days. I'm worried about everyone's safety if we try to keep going like this. We can't let anyone get hurt."

"I was thinking the same," Frank replied, "Karen's already relaying the message."

Karen was Frank's secretary.

Harper nodded, weary evidence on her face.

Frank asked, "What's wrong? You don't look well."

"I'm fine."

"Harper, you can tell me anything. I'm here for you, remember?"

"I know," she said softly.

Just then, Karen burst into the room.

"Mr. Parker, Ms. Mitchell, we have a problem. Someone is making a scene outside."© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.

They both got up immediately, but Harper nearly lost her balance. Fortunately, Frank caught her. "Harper, are you alright?"

"I'm fine. Let's go check it out."

Outside the company's doors, someone had sprayed the words "COPYCAT" in red paint.

The ground was littered with garbage, a smelly and dirty mess.

The company's office was located in a modern skyscraper, bustling with young professionals. News travels fast among the millennials. The scene had attracted quite a crowd. Harper's head throbbed at the sight. She frowned and returned to her office.

Frank said with concern, "You don't look well. Let me take you home. I'll handle the mess, and I'll meet with that Yohan tonight. Maybe he'll have some ideas for fixing this."

Harper didn't try to act tough. She truly felt unwell, and she was still worried about Paul, making her feel dizzy and her heart racing. Given her current situation, she needed to get some rest, not just for herself but for the baby she was carrying.

By the time she got back to Pineview Villa, it was already dinner time.

She first sent a message to Lily for an update on Paul. He was still unconscious, but his condition was stable.

Lily told her there was no need to come over. Scott would be there in the evening.

Harper didn't insist. She checked the time and found out that Benjamin hadn't returned yet.

She pondered for a long time before calling him.

If it were just her and Frank facing the company issues, she wouldn't be bothered with it, but there were other employees involved, all of whom had followed her for a year. She had a responsibility to them.

Harper worried she might back down, so as soon as the call connected, she went straight to the point. "Benjamin, can you do me a favor? There's a bit of trouble at my company. I need you to step it. Is that okay?"
