Chapter 9
One by one, Whitney watched as her friends piled into a cab. Now it was just her and Jonah stumbling down the street, the night air crisp around them.
Jonah, clearly buzzed, mumbled something as he tagged along behind. “Whitney, I gotta tell ya, I’ve got a thing for you. Have since day one. I fell hard and always wanted to have your back. Then you up and married Thiago, and there wasn’t much I could do but wish you well, from afar. But now, you’ve cut ties. Maybe it’s my turn? I swear, I’ll keep you safe, out of harm’s way, always.” NôvelDrama.Org (C) content.
Her feet stopped dead at his confession. Turning to face him, Whitney caught the goofy grin on Jonah’s face, tinged with a trace of sadness.
They’d been tight for four, maybe five years–nothing near the stretch she’d known Thiago. But Jonah showed her far more kindness than Thiago ever had.
Thing was, they were just pals. Nothing more.
“You’re sloshed. Let’s get you home,” Whitney said, waving down another taxi. She got Jonah settled in the back and then slid into the front seat herself.
Before catching the ride, she flicked a quick DM on Twitter: [Launch the plan.] With that, she turned off her phone, took out the SIM card, and threw it out of the moving vehicle.
Come dawn, the next firestorm hit Twitter. Influencers everywhere blasted out a video straight from Tatiana’s big 80th at the Mackenzie estate. The film was hidden camera style, complete with crisp audio.
Quincey’s voice was exceptionally clear. “You snatched my spot as Mrs. Mackenzie! You think I’d just sit around and take it? As if, Whitney! Imagine the scene if I took a dive down the stairs. Thiago’s all about me. If I point the finger at you, think he’ll stand by? Can’t wait to see.”
At the top of the staircase, she smirked slyly and then dramatically tumbled backward. Whitney didn’t lay a finger on Quincey at all.
Following that, another bombshell was revealed. It was the full version of the previous apology video.
There was an extra clip in the middle of the original video that captured Quincey’s abrupt change in expression once Thiago left the ward. Her vulnerability had vanished, replaced by a triumphant look as she said, “How does it feel to be forced to apologize for something you didn’t do? You see it now, don’t you? I’m the only one Thiago loves. Just stop fighting this and divorce him. I should be Mrs. Mackenzie instead!”
Those two videos blew up online like wildfire. Tech whizzes chipped in, exposing how the first apology video was sliced and diced–only parts made it public. This new one? The whole, unspliced deal.
Turned out Whitney was the one getting played, pushed into apologizing.
Naturally, everyone was shocked to find out that Quincey, who looked so weak, could actually do such a perverse thing, disguising herself as a victim in order to garner sympathy. In no time, she became a shameless, cunning, and downright spiteful homewrecker in the eyes of netizens.
They immediately started condemning Quincey, each hate comment more scathing than the last, pretty much intending to cancel her.
Meanwhile, loads of people congratulated Whitney for her divorce.
Chapses”
