Not for the eyes of ordinary
“What’s your name, ma’am?” asked the colonel sitting across from her.
After Bree accused her in front of the hospital, she was taken to the nearby Police Station to get her statement on what happened. The edge of Jenica’s lips curled. “Jane Lau,” she answered.
Even though Jane Lau is not her real name, but being a top expert herself, it’s easy for her to store records of ‘Jane Lau’ in different government databases in order to verify Jane Lau’s existence. So it’s not surprising that the colonel didn’t find it suspicious to hear her ‘name’ and proceeded to ask more questions regarding on the incident.
The colonel wrote something on the paper he was holding and asked about the old man. Jenica answered those questions and after a few minutes she was given permission to leave the station.
Jenica looked around outside the station and saw Bryce talking to Lynet not far away. She walked her distance to the two and Lynet was the first to notice her. The woman glared at her secretly and Jenica raised her eyebrows, curling the corner of her lips a little bit. Did she disappoint Lynet for freely walking outside the Police Station?
“When the autopsy report is out, the Mondragon will file a case against the Desmana,” Lynet said to Bryce while looking at Jenica. “Didn’t I tell you that this woman will only cause you trouble, Bryce?”
Bryce frowned. “It has nothing to do with Ms. Lau, sister-in-law. It’s a terminal illness and I can vouch for Miss Lau’s innocence of this matter.”
Lynette sneered at him. “Fire her when this matter ends. My uncle doesn’t like what you are doing, Bryce. He said you are being too willful to find someone to go againt Bree in the company, and look what you’ve done, someone died in the hands of that woman!” said Lynet and pointed at Jenica.
Jenica raised her eyebrows and folded her arms. The uncle it refers to is Grey Mondragon. Of course, Grey doesn’t know that Jane Lau and Doctor Acinea are the same person so she’s not surprised that man is antagonizing her. “Your uncle?” Jenica smiled. “Why should Bryce listen to your uncle, Miss Lynet? Bryce knows how to run his company. He doesn’t need anyone to teach him how to manage it.”
“Shut up! I’m not talking to you,” said Lynet.
She shook her head. “You are raising a finger on me so why should I keep my mouth shut?”
Bryce sighed and looked at Jenica. “Did they give you a hard time inside?”
Jenica shook her head and looked around when she felt someone watching her. She frowned slightly. She didn’t feel threatened by that blatant stare but she felt uncomfortable, as if the person staring at her from the dark knew her.
“Miss Jane?” Bryce called when he noticed that her attention wasn’t there.
“Let’s go,” she said and walked first.
Lynet wanted to speak, but Bryce glanced at her with a warning gaze. The woman pursed her lips and walked after them.
Jenica frowned even more when that feeling of being stared at didn’t disappear until she got out of the car. Her gaze deepened and looked out the window. She saw a man who she thought was about her age. He was sitting on the bench and was holding a newspaper, looking straight at her way. If she wasn’t sure the car was tinted, she would assume the man could see her inside.
But… who is he? She was not familiar with that man. And why were his eyes full of complex emotions while looking at her? She’s puzzled, especially when her heart skipped a beat while staring at the man. As if she knew him before but she had forgotten him.
The car sped off and she never saw the man again. But she has a hunch that the next time they meet, she will be a different person.
When they arrived at the mansion, the lady of the Desmanas met her. The old woman glsred at her and Jenica raised her eyebrows. What made this old woman mad again?
“Bryce, let’s talk!” said the old woman before turning around and walking towards the small study room on the first floor.
Bryce excused himself and followed the lady while she and Lynet were left in the living room. When she glanced at the woman, she was also looking at her evilly.
Some members of the Desmanas passed by and they also looked at her badly. Sje couldn’t help but frown. For a moment, she wondered if this family was worth helping. If only Bryce wasn’t kind, she would have really left the Desmanas to return to the capital. She’s tired of dealing with people who were really difficult to please, so she went up the stairs and headed to her room.
But her face darkened when she noticed that the door to her room was open. When she went inside, she saw the mess on the floor and bed. And right there, she knew that someone barged into her room and messed with her things.
“Bastards,” she said, gritting her teeth.
She walked to her open bag where the laptop should be inside, but there was none. Her wallet was also taken where her ID cards as Doctor Acinea were kept.
Jenica’s face darkened even more and stepped out of the room.
She went down to the living room and saw Bryce with his grandmother. The other family members surrounded the two and when she looked at the center table, she saw her laptop and ID card lying there silently.
“Miss Jane Lau,” the old lady called her scornfully.
With no emotion on her face, she walked closer to the old woman. “Who messed with my things?” she asked and looked at each of the members of Desmana family.Material © NôvelDrama.Org.
It might be because if her stoic expression that they all looked away, afraid to meet her eyes. She sneered. These scums!
The old woman scoffed at her unfriendly tone. “My daughters did the right thing! If they hadn’t rummaged through your things, the truth wouldn’t have been revealed!”
Jenica raised her eyebrows and sneered. “Oh? I’m curious what this truth is all about?”
“Doctor Acinea’s ID card is with you!” The old woman turned to Bryce. “I told you that this woman is no good! Look, she even stole Doctor Acinea’s stuff!”
Bryce frowned. “Grandma, is this what you want to ask me? I believe Miss Jane is not that kind of person.”
“Are you hearing yourself, Bryce?” the old woman shouted angrily and threw the ID card at him. “Look what this woman did! She stole Doctor Acinea’s ID card and who is Doctor Acinea? She’s a well-known doctor that even the President is afraid to offend!” The old woman pointed a finger at Jenica. “She stole something from the doctor and when someone knows it, even if your deceased grandfather is here, the whole Desmana is finished!”
The whole mansion fell silent after the old woman angry words. Bryce looked at Jenica. His face was serious when he asked her, “Miss Lau, please explain why this card is with you,” he said and held up the small ID card.
A glint flashed across her eyes while staring at the small card. It was Doctor Acinea’s ID card to the Oriental Alchemist organization that’s based in the capital. But there is no picture on that card and only the logo of Oriental Alchemist and the name “Doctor Acinea” is printed on the front side of the ID card.
And thinking back, during the times she appeared in public as Doctor Acinea, she was wearing a mask. Also, the public did not know that Doctor Acinea is a part to the Oriental Alchemist organization, and if they did, a third grade family like Desmana in this town of Laguna could not possibly know of such a secretive organization hiding in the deep waters of the capital.
In other words, none of the Desmanas should know that Doctor Acinea is a member of the Oriental Alchemist organization and no one should know about that organization.
Unless… someone hinted them about it.
Jenica turned her gaze to Lynet who was looking at her. There was a small smile on the woman’s lips. Well, her gaze told her the woman thought there’s no wrong rummaging someone else’s belongings, because Jenica could see the gloating in the woman’s eyes.
Lynet won’t do this thing unless she’s instructed to. And she had long expected that this woman would do something. It’s just surprising that Bree took this long before she took an action.
“Do you all think I stole Doctor Acinea’s ID card?” Jenica asked and swept a glance at the card on Bryce’s hand. “Have you seen that ID card in Doctor Acinea’s hand? Or do you think ‘Doctor Acinea’ is her true name? Do you know what that logo represents?” she asked with raised eyebrows.
The Desmanas were silent for a moment and looked at Lynet. The woman’s lips twitched. “That should be Doctor Acinea’s card,” Lynet said, her voice full of confidence.
The corner of Jenica’s lips rose. “Oh? How sure are you? Have you met Doctor Acinea?”
“Of course!” Lynet said loudly. “I’ve seen Doctor Acinea in the capital when she visited the country months ago.” When she saw that they did not believe her, she frowned. “I was invited in the official gathering in the capital for Doctor Acinea. I saw her wearing a fox mask.”
“Do you have a proof? The last time I checked, Desmana clan didn’t attend the gathering,” she said. As far as she remembered, she did not see Lynet at that gathering. But maybe, the woman was there but she never noticed her.
Well, Lynet didn’t like her doubtful gaze because the woman’s face changed. Even the other Desmana members darkened their faces.
“My father and Tito Grey Mondragon was there. Even if I was married to Desmana, I am still a Mondragon. Tito Grey let me attend the gathering.” Lynette scoffed. “Why am I explaining to you? Someone like you can’t attend Doctor Acinea’s welcome party even if you want to.”
Jenica thought for a moment about what Lynet said. If Grey Mondragon was also present, he probably already knew that Doctor Acinea was going to the South to heal Jobert’s wife. It just means that it was Grey himself who talked to Jobert to direct Doctor Acinea to his mansion after her mission at the governor’s house.
Ah, she was fooled by these two old scum. She thought it was Jobert who wanted to establish more connection with her, but it turned out, it was Grey who reached out first.
“Cat got your tongue?” asked Lynet, ridicule was evident in her voice. “Why don’t you speak now, Miss Jane Lau? Explain to us why you have Doctor Acinea’s ID card and let us check your laptop. Who knows you have illegal things stored in your laptop against us?”
“That’s right! Open this woman’s laptop, Bryce. Knowing that she has Doctor Acinea’s ID card, who knows what things she did behind our backs?” replied the old Desmana lady.
Jenica looked at Bryce, waiting to hear his reply. To her surprise, Bryce agreed to open her laptop in front of the Desmanas. Well, that’s unexpected.
Bryce should know that she is Code X, and the things in her laptop are not for the eyes of ordinary people like his clansmen. If he knows what’s best for him and his family, he should stop them.
If they really open her laptop to look what’s in it, they are forcing her to kill them all in order to keep the secrets inside.
