Her Precious Baby

Chapter 69

Chapter 69

“Mr. Golding, I think you’ve misunderstood something. I’m taking care of Floretta because I like her, not because I want to get resources from you,” Angeline hastily explained.

“I know,” Evander replied.

He knows?

Angeline froze at his words.

Then why is he doing this? Golding Group has many female artists who are more talented than me.

After changing his shoes at the door, Evander looked at her and explained, “The new Starlight Jewelry product you endorsed will be launched soon. The sales will increase only when your reputation is established.”

What I said was reasonable. So, Angeline has no reason to turn down my offer.

“Of course, if you don’t perform well, the film crew can always replace the actress.” With that, Evander left the place with Floretta in his arms.

Standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, Angeline watched them get into the car downstairs. Soon, the vehicle disappeared from her sight.

Every show invested in by Golding Group would become a hit.

It would be a lie for Angeline to say that she was not tempted by Evander’s lucrative offer.

However, she felt that getting the deal was too easy on her part.

Angeline gently rubbed her temples with her long, slender fingers. Despite her exhaustion, she still decided to accept his offer.

I can only challenge Hanson and Joseline when I’m stronger. Only then could I get back the shares that belong to me!

Three days later, Nancy came to Angeline’s house with the script. The former was noticeably in a good mood as she maintained a smile on her face.

“My dear Goddess of Fortune, you’re doing a great job securing the role of the lead actress in such a star-studded drama like The Journey. Do you know how many female artists have their eyes on this golden opportunity?”

Angeline was fidgeting with the remote control distractedly. She perked up at Nancy’s comment. “Did you just say The Journey?”

“Yes. Take a look at the script.” Nancy took a sip of water.

Angeline hurriedly picked up the script and went through the pages. The more she read, the more excited she became.

The Journey was a period drama featuring a heroine. In that ancient era, women were at the mercy of others. Refusing to accept her fate, the main character, Alleria, escaped death multiple times during the war. In the end, she became the queen consort.

“Has the production team informed you of the shooting date?” Angeline probed excitedly.

The Journey was a novel Angeline had read during junior high. She took a liking to Alleria’s character back then. Nevertheless, she never thought she would have the opportunity of playing this role one day.

“It will start the day after tomorrow. The director said all of the main cast would be there. Also, you’ll start shooting your first scene on that day.”

Leaning against the couch, Nancy looked at Angeline with approval. She continued, “Do your best. The company has decided to focus on promoting you in the second half of the year.”

“Understood, Ms. Yandell!” Angeline replied enthusiastically.

“I need to ask…” Nancy folded her arms and asked, deliberately drawing out every syllable, “Did you cast a spell on Mr. Golding or something? Why does he favor you so much?”

Angeline nearly choked on her water when she heard the straightforward question. “Hey, you shouldn’t spout nonsense like that. There’s nothing between Mr. Golding and me.”

“Why would he give you resources if there’s nothing between the two of you?” Nancy asked, raising her eyebrows. “I do feel that Mr. Golding is giving you special treatment. Could it be that he likes you?”

He likes me?

Angeline was stunned by that question. “N-No way. Mr. Golding already has a fiancée. Let’s not overthink this,” she gibbered.

She immediately picked up a grape from the plate and stuffed it into Nancy’s mouth to prevent the latter from making more shocking comments.

“Dear viewers, welcome to the live broadcast of the press conference of Sorelle Group and Yiurk Group. As you can see, many people are here at the scene.”

Right then, one particular piece of news caught Angeline’s attention on the television.

Frowning, she grabbed the remote control on the side and turned up the volume.

The camera panned out to both Joseline and Hanson. The latter was wearing a black suit, clenching his fists with a gloomy expression.

Without any makeup on, Joseline looked extremely pale in front of the camera. She wiped the tears off her face with a piece of tissue.

Meanwhile, the reporters began to bombard the duo with questions.

“Ms. Sorelle, did you actually hire a hitman?”

“Mr. Yiurk, how do you feel after marrying such a vicious woman?”

Nevertheless, their questions went unanswered.

Hanson’s face contorted into a hideous scowl. It was clear that he wanted to get up and leave the press conference.

“Everyone, I think there’s a misunderstanding. Sorelle Group is a successful business. I dare not do such a thing under public scrutiny.” Looking pitifully at the camera, Joseline defended herself, “Someone deliberately set me up!” Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.

“What?” The crowd plunged into chaos at her shocking statement.

Right then, Joseline’s lawyer came out with a flash drive in his hand. “I think everyone has listened to that voice recording at the wedding. However, it’s impossible to know what happened based on the voice alone.”

The lawyer immediately inserted the flash drive into the computer. Soon, the big screen behind him showed a person wearing a wig sitting in a broadcast studio.

“This person is a famous cross-dresser. His name is Candy. He made a name for himself on the internet by impersonating different voices. Ms. Sorelle was framed by him!” the lawyer exclaimed through gritted teeth.

Then, he played the video of Candy apologizing with his face blurred. Sure enough, the impersonator’s voice sounded a lot like Joseline’s.

It was hard for the crowd not to be convinced when the evidence was right in front of them.

“They’re trying to mislead people!” Angeline slammed her palm on the table, her chest heaving up and down in a rage.

I can’t believe Joseline would casually find a bottom-tier streamer to take the blame for her. These people have no morals whatsoever!

At that moment, Hanson, who had kept silent throughout the press conference, looked straight at the camera. “No matter what happens, I believe in Joseline,” he uttered with conviction.

Angeline could not help but sneer at his remark.

That wasn’t what he said at the wedding last time. Gosh, how lovey-dovey they are! I will never allow this nasty couple to get away with this!

Angeline could not bear to watch any more of the broadcast. Just as she was about to turn off the television, a woman’s shriek rang out. “Joseline Sorelle, you shameless b*tch! Aren’t you afraid of getting your comeuppance?”

The next moment, the crowd erupted into chaos. Several rural women ran to the front with baskets.

They immediately grabbed the eggs from the baskets and hurled them toward Joseline and Hanson without saying a word.

“Ah! Where’s security? Hurry up and call the police!” Joseline barked, looking extremely frightened.

Soon, the two of them were covered with eggs, emanating a stinky odor.

It was then that the security guards came over and seized the egg baskets from the women’s hands. The women glared at the duo in front of them with hatred writ large upon their faces.

Hanson, who had never been in such a wretched state before, took off his suit jacket. His expression turned fierce as he roared, “Take them to the police station for causing a ruckus!”
