Eighteen
JAX
My eyes drifted to the watch strapped on my arm. It was time for my shift.
The starry night sky had come out in it’s full glory.
“Man it’s time for my shift” I sighed, standing up.
Michael nodded and stood with me.
“Find your father so you can stop all these menial jobs you do bro” Michael whispered before walking away towards the exit.
He was saying the truth.
I have a rich father out there and I’m here working multiple shifts just to put food on the table.
I serve people for a living while my father is somewhere enjoying all the good things life has to offer.
I hissed, my irritation written all over my face as I walked towards the bar counter.
Customers poured in as usual but I was thoroughly absent minded. I didn’t even greet or say a word to them. I only took down their orders and served them.
My mind was in disarray. My thoughts ran wild as I sought to find answers on how I’ll find back my father or atleast run into that private investigator.
He was literally my only hope. I fervently prayed within me for him to show up and just direct me to my father.
I didn’t believe him the last time he came and I turned him down. What if he told my father of how I refused to believe him and my father decided not to search for me again?
I mean since that fateful night, I hadn’t set my eyes on him again. He just stopped coming.
If my father was desperate to see me, probably he would have sent him back again but he just didn’t show up.
Fuck. Now I just wish I could go back in time and accept his offer to meet my dad.
Why the hell did I even listen to my mum? If I happened to meet my father and I got a share out of his property, it would benefit her too like Michael said.
I would take her on beautiful dates, buy her beautiful clothes, exotic food, give her spar treatments….. anything she wanted.
She would leave the slum of an apartment she stayed in and we will both reside in a mansion.
I honestly needed to get in touch with that private investigator but how?
How was I going to find him?
He did not drop an address or number.
Hell I don’t even know his name!
How was I then going to find him in this big city?!
“Hey cutie” A feminine voice snapped me out of the abyss of my thoughts.
I rolled my eyes inwardly and a hiss left my lips. Here we go again.
Putting up a stoic expression with a deep sigh, I spoke. “Good evening. What can I get you?” I was being as formal and straightforward as possible.
The faster I attended to these customers, the quicker they left and which meant I would have time to think and be by myself.
“Wow. What a husky voice you have. So sexy” she fluttered her lashes at me and gave me amorous glances.
Fuck. This woman was irritating to the core. Couldn’t she see that my countenance wasn’t a happy one?
What was wrong with some of these customers?
“Ma’am what would you like to drink?” I repeated my question once more.
She leaned in closer and gave me come-hither stares. “Why don’t I drink a tall glass of you handsome?”
I sighed, having been annoyed at this point.
“Ma’am…” I attempted to speak.
“Oh call me Josephine sweetheart” she placed her hand on mine.
“What the fuck!?” An exasperated growl was heard.
A man came over towards us, his face contorted in rage and his fists balling up.
At once the woman retreated her hands and veered her eyes from mine.
I’m guessing that was her husband or boyfriend.
Just great!
When I tried to avoid problems, it comes looking for me.
“Were you flirting with my wife!?” He yelled, drawing attention towards us.
I rubbed my forehead with my hands and sighed.
“No sir she was flirting with me” I simply stated.
He turned to look at her, his chest fuming with anger. “Is that true Josephine?!”
“Of course not. I wasn’t” she lied.
Wow. His heated orbs drifted back to me and his jaws clenched tightly.
“Sir, your wife was the one flirting with me. I didn’t do nothing” I defended myself.
“Are you calling my wife a liar! Fucking son of a bitch” he at once yanked my collar, almost punching me when some one held his hand back.
“Don’t embarrass yourself for this woman!” The man who held him warned.
I couldn’t make out his face because the bar was dim, he was on sun shades and he wore a hat.
At that point, people had begun gathering. Fuck I could loose my job.
“He was flirting with my wife!” He yelled.
“No he wasn’t. Your wife was the one making advances at him. I saw it all. Caution your wife and don’t beat up an innocent man” the mystery man gritted his teeth in anger.
The married man looked at his wife, his hot orbs giving her dagger glares.
“Bitch. Fucking come here” he dragged her arm and stormed out of the bar.
Oh goodness. I could have gotten beaten up or fired today.
The crowd had started dispersing and everyone began dancing once more.
I quickly left the counter, rushing over to thank the man who saved me from losing my job and getting a red eye all because of a lousy woman.
“Thank you so much sir” I thanked with grateful eyes.
He laughed. “You don’t recognise me?”
My brows hiked in confusion.
“No sir. Please do I know you?”
At that moment he pulled off his hat and sun shades, making me get a clearer view of his face.
A surprised gasp left my lips and I used a hand to cover my mouth.
What the hell!
He is the private investigator, the one person whom I had been thinking of finding. He came back!
My joy knew no bounds. I could have hugged him.
Happiness saturated all over my face.
“Oh my God! It’s you!” I exclaimed.
“You seem so happy to see me. Unlike before” he chuckled.
Hell yeah I was.
“I have been looking for a way to contact you. You didn’t drop a number or anything. Please I want to meet my father” I wasted no time in pouring my thoughts.
He gave a satisfied smile.
“Your father was right when he told me to give you time”
That fucking means my father still wants to see me.
I leaped for joy within me.
“You don’t know how much I wanted to meet you again. Take me to my father please. I have a rich father somwhere and here I am suffering. You saw what almost happened. I’ve been treated worse. Just take me to my father please” I practically pleaded.
The man nodded. “That’s why I am here Mr Jax storms. I’m glad you want to meet him. He is eager to meet you too. Lets go somewhere we can talk. I’ll give you in on all the details you need about your father and take you to him. He promised to double my pay if I get you to come back with me” the man gave a shallow chortle.Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
“Wait my shift isn’t over” I announced to him seeing that he had begun walking towards the exit.
He turned and faced me with a smirk. “Fuck that. You are now Mr Jax Storms, heir to the LS corporation limited. From now on you won’t do jobs like these”
What! The LS corporation limited was one of America’s richest companies.
Fuck.
Was my dad that rich?!
A wide smile sat on my face.
“Jax where are you heading to?” My boss voice called to me. “Customers won’t serve themselves”
“I quit!” I yelled back a reply before walking out leaving my boss stunned.
“Are you ready for this new life Mr Jax?” The man asked as we approached his car.
“You bet I am” I replied with enthusiasm.
We got into his car and he ignited the engines before hitting the road.
Now I would no longer have to endure insults on my financial status.
I will be able to get back at the people who belittled me in the past—The Walters.
I’ll get back my child now and nobody was going to stop me.

Two years later
Seconds turned into minutes and minutes turned into hours with the hours evolving into days, days into months and months into years.
It’s been two long years since I met my father, two years of rapid change and discoveries.
Now looking back, I’m no longer the Jax I was in the past. The Jax who was easily trampled upon because of his low financial status.
I was Jax Storms, one of America’s most eligible bachelors and the only son of Leo storms, a filthy billionaire.
My father’s company had shares in literally all the big multimillion dollar companies. He even had the fifth highest shares in the Lester Corporations, one of the biggest in America and that’s only because Mr Lester made everyone in his household have shares.
Being rich came with a lot of respect. Even the bar where I formally worked in, my former boss gave me VIP treatment as I had become a regular customer.
Everybody was shocked by my sudden wealth.
I was always respected wherever I stepped foot in and my name was always on the tongues of the paparazzi.
The media scrambled to get my photos and women drooled at my feet.
My father really showered me with so much love.
I got to find out that he had been looking for me for such a long time and the reason my mum kept me away from him was because when she took in for him, my father was already married and she was scared of ruining his marraige.
So she ran away from him and raised me herself.
Sadly my mother never got to enjoy my wealth before she passed away.
She passed away two years ago, weeks after I had met my father.
I missed her so much. She suffered so greatly. Even my father’s wife passed away years back and they had no children. I was just his only seed.
He treated me like an egg and demanded I get the best of the best.
He put me in charge of his corporation and the company grew drastically under my directions.
It was mindblowing at how life turned around for me.
Lying on my king sized bed, I reminisced about my life in the past.
Sometimes it felt like a dream.
But it wasn’t. I am now a billionaire without even having to do anything but one thing I don’t do is that I don’t let the wealth get to my head.
I know what it is like being poor ans being trampled upon. I make sure to donate to charity every month and I’m working on a programme to empower the less privileged with skills for business.
I had it all now. The fame, the money, the power, the authority, the name but one thing was missing.
My child.
A storm is brewing on the Walters.
They have no idea on what I’m capable of doing now.
