Chapter 11 Got on his love pirate ship
I didn’t pay any attention to what Roan said.
I liked him, but I couldn’t possibly intrude into someone else’s relationship without any boundaries.
So, whether Roan’s words were hurried comfort or a belated confession, I couldn’t accept them.
He already had a girlfriend, so why was he bothering me?
I set a new password for the door lock, then contacted a real estate agent to look for a new place, getting ready to move. I was busy, keeping myself occupied.
There were also many things going on at the company. I heard that our branch may be merged into the headquarters, which will inevitably lead to a large-scale layoff. My colleagues were all nervous, and the atmosphere at the company was tense.
However, I didn’t care at all. If they laid me off, even better. I could use the severance pay to take a break.
I turned off my phone on time after work, but my manager suddenly stopped me.
“Fiona, go to the headquarters and get this document signed by Ms. Penn.”Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.
“But I’ve already finished work…”
“Off work? Look around, who leaves this early? If you don’t want to work, just resign. It saves the company from compensating you!”
I glanced around at my colleagues who were pretending to work overtime and thought, for the severance pay, I’ll endure!
I staggered over to the opposite building. Most of the headquarters’ employees had already left.
I rarely visited the headquarters even though we were part of the same company, as we were responsible for different sectors.
Ms. Penn was the CEO of the JC Group. I had only seen her from afar at company events, and I knew she was a powerful woman.
This document had been rejected several times, and it seemed like the manager was pushing me forward as a scapegoat.
Taking the elevator to the top floor, where Mrs. Penn’s offices were located, I found the secretary’s desk empty; she must have already left for the day.
The half-open door left me hesitating about whether to enter or not when suddenly a familiar voice echoed from inside.
“Ro, what do you want for dinner tonight?”
This voice… Roan’s girlfriend?!
I quietly walked over, trying to sneak a peek.
“Creak~”
Accidentally losing my balance, I inadvertently swung the door wide open.
In the office, Roan sat at the main desk, spotted me, and smiled with a raised eyebrow.
I awkwardly chuckled and scratched my head.
Suddenly noticing someone sitting on the couch beside the desk, I took a closer look – Ms. Penn?!
I racked my brain, realizing that although I had seen Roan’s girlfriend twice before, I hadn’t clearly seen her face.
So, Roan’s girlfriend turned out to be Ms. Penn?!
Roan is a gold digger?!
No wonder he could intern directly at the headquarters?!
My gaze shifted between the two of them. Although Mrs. Penn was a bit older, she maintained herself well, appearing refined and elegant.
I blinked, surprised but still had to do the job at hand.
“Ms. Penn, this is the new project plan for your review.”
I took out the document from my bag and handed it over, stealing a glance at Roan. He seemed unfazed, displaying no signs of discomfort.
Unexpectedly, Ms. Penn didn’t even lift her head. She just pointed her hand towards Roan, saying, “Let him review it.”
I was startled, and the document nearly slipped from my hands. How could Ms. Penn let the harem control the company’s affairs?!
I turned to look at Roan, who was already looking in my direction, a look of amusement on his face, waiting for the document.
This darn job was becoming unbearable. I really wanted to throw the document in his face and shout, “I quit!”
But that was just an imaginary scenario. I had to be honest and complete my work.
I stood in front of Roan, and he looked at me with a smile, his hand reaching out in mid-air, waiting for me to place the document in his hand.
His fingers were distinct, slender, and elegant.
However, I suddenly felt a rebellious urge. I intentionally avoided his hand, tossed the document on the table, and turned to leave.
At that moment, Ms. Penn unexpectedly called out to stop me.
“Wait.”
I was startled, thinking, “This is it. Am I in trouble over this trivial matter?”
“You look familiar. Have I seen you somewhere before?”
Ms. Penn suddenly sat up, supporting herself on the coffee table, staring at my face in contemplation.
I nervously ran my fingers through my hair and stammered, “Ms. Penn, I’m a division employee. It’s quite normal for you to have seen me…”
I took a couple of steps toward the door, hoping to make a quick escape.
“Hold on, I remember now. I saw you at Ro’s house last time… but you didn’t come in.”
Ms. Penn had a look of sudden realization.
I immediately panicked and explained, “Ms. Penn, I just live across from Roan. Last time, I went the wrong way…”
“So, you live across from Roan?”
Oh no, things were getting worse.
I was wracking my brain, trying to come up with an explanation when Ms. Penn suddenly turned to Roan and asked, “Why didn’t you mention that your girlfriend lives across from you?”
“Yes, I live across, but I… Wait, girlfriend?!”
I was still muttering to myself when Ms. Penn’s words suddenly snapped me back to reality.
“Ms. Penn, you’ve misunderstood. I…”
Before I could finish my sentence, Roan interrupted me.
“Mom, you talk too much.”
“What? Mom?!”
There were too many elements to process, and my brain couldn’t keep up.
“Isn’t it a bit early for you to call Mom?” Roan said with a smile, twirling a pen in one hand and supporting his chin with the other, looking mischievously at me.
“Not too early, not too early. I had you when I was 18. By the time sons your age are six, you know,” Ms. Penn waved her hand, giving Roan a glare, then turned to me with a smiling face.
“When you came to Roan’s house last time, he said you weren’t ready to meet the his parents yet, so you didn’t come in. I didn’t expect you to live across. That’s wonderful; it makes things so much easier, and I can feel at ease now.”
Ms. Penn clapped her hands joyfully, started mumbling to herself, lost in a beautiful fantasy.
“I…”
I was about to explain, but then I saw Roan placing a finger on his lips, gesturing for silence.
Well, I shut up again.
