Chapter 137
Chapter 137
Blake's POV
A strange emotion in my heart appeared the moment I entered the town. The town was small,
unpopulated, and an impoverished place nestled in the middle of the lush forest that stretched as far as
the eyes could see, making the quietness almost palpable. The main street, which seemed more like a
dusty path, was lined with dilapidated buildings.
I walked for a couple of minutes and barely saw the humans. Although I could feel their presence, most
of them were hiding, obviously cautious and keeping their distance from an outsider like me.
Everywhere I went, I felt eyes directed towards me, guarding and watching my every move.
Just one look at the place and I knew why a secret group decided to hide in this place. This group was
well aware that the residents would notice their arrival. But due to their weary and close nature, it would
take a long time before words about their existence would come to the outsiders’ ears.
I pulled my hat down and continued aimlessly walking. That was, until a few minutes later when I
turned to a small street and stopped my feet. Then, without turning around, I said with a cold and
commanding tone, “Show yourself. I know that you are following me.”
The movements behind me immediately halted, then, I felt the person behind me hesitated. And before
I could react, the person immediately moved, trying to run away.
I raised a brow and moved. In a blink of an eye, I was already holding the collar of a teenage human
who was staring at me with terrified eyes.
“Y-you… let me go!” He waved his arms and feet, struggling to get away from my grasp. When he was
starting to get louder, I pressed him on the ground, stopping him from further shouting.
“I will not kill you…” I started to say, making the teenage human freeze in fear. “That is, as long as you
answer all of my questions. Truthfully,” I added with a cold voice.
“Nod your head if you agree.” Immediately, the teenage human nodded vigorously, while tears started
to fall from his eyes in fright,
Seeing the boy frozen in fear, I slightly loosened my hold on his collar and asked, “Do you live here? If
you do, how long?”
“S-since… e-ever since I-I w-was born….” The teenager stuttered.
“I see. Then why are you following me?” I asked sharply, making the teenager’s shoulder started to
shake. “Did someone order you to follow me?”
“N-no! I-I’m sorry… No one o-ordered me to follow you… I did it on m-my o-own…” The boy answered
with trembling voice. “I s-swear I meant n-no harm… I j-just… I just n-need to talk to y-you…”
“Talk to me? For what reason?” I demanded. Soon, my body was covered with a cold aura, making the
human teenager to turn deathly pale. “Did you notice that I am new to this town, so you followed me to
steal something?”
“N-no!” The teenager shook his head vigorously, denying my accusation. “I-I… I just w-want to request
assistance! I s-saw that you guys have a g-great d-doctor! I thought… y-you might help us i-f w-we b-
beg!”
“My m-mother… she-s so sick! P-please… I beg you… I r-really j-just need your help! I s-swear I wasn’t
planning on anything bad!” He answered as tears continuously fell from his eyes.
“A great doctor?” I mumbled before letting the boy’s collar go. Instead of standing up right away, the
boy continuously cried while laying on the ground, making my head pound slightly.
“Sit down and answer me properly. Elaborate what you meant about ‘us guys’ having a ‘great doctor,’” I
demanded with a cold voice.
The teenage human slowly sat down and while sniffling, he replied, “I s-saw it with my own eyes…”
“Last time in the forest, a member of your group was injured… The beautiful lady… she took a vial from
her robe and gave it to the person. Then… the i-injuries of the person… it was immediately healed!” He
explained while waving his hands.
‘A great doctor… a beautiful lady?’ Suddenly, my heart started pounding in my chest. Without thinking, I
reached out to grab the boy at his collar once more and harshly demanded, “What does she look like?
What color is her hair and eyes?!”
The teenage human could not say anything. He merely looked at me like I was a beast about to devour
him. Seeing his reaction, I gripped my hands tight, forcing myself to calm down, though I was not able
to. “Answer me now!” I hissed.
"I- I d-didn't see her face because she was w-wearing a h-hood… But h-her hair… she has brown
hair… and when I c-caught a g-glimpse of her eyes… it w-was d-deep brown…" the boy answered.
As I stood there, my entire body locked up, unable to move a muscle. Brown hair, brown eyes – it
couldn't be true, could it?
It was too much of a coincidence; it had to be her… Chloe…
My mate who had vanished from my life five years ago. My mate… who had abandoned me and cut
me off her life.
A flood of memories rushed in, and my heart seemed to beat louder with each passing second.
Releasing my grip on the teenager's collar, I was lost in a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions.
Excitement mixed with trepidation, hope mingled with fear, and a sense of numbness washed over me,
as if shielding myself from getting hurt again. The weight of anticipation felt heavy in my chest, and I
couldn't resist covering my heart with my hand, trying to steady myself.
It has been five long years, and finally, I might have the possibility of news of Chloe. Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
What should I do now? How should I act in this situation? For the first time in five years, I was
absolutely unsure what to do.
'Chloe… If I ended up coming closer to you… Will you meet me? Or…'
'Like the previous five years, are you going to turn away from me…' I thought, gripping my hands tight.
"T-that… Sir…" At that moment, the teenager spoke, breaking my thoughts. "I told you e-everything
that I know… P-please l-let me go…" he begged.
I turned to look at the teenage human. He was around fifteen to sixteen years old, with scrawny arms
and legs and hollowed cheeks. One look and one could tell that he was someone living in extreme
poverty…
If it's him… Chloe wouldn't turn him away.
An idea appeared in my mind upon that thought. Without wasting a moment, I grabbed the boy, making
him stand straighter as I put my arm around his trembling shoulder. Then, I told him,
"Did you say that your mother is very sick and you need a great doctor to heal her?"
The boy looked at me with frightful eyes, unsure what I meant by asking that question. Still, he nodded
in response.
"Why don't you tell me when and where did you see this great doctor?" I asked him with a nonchalant
tone.
"That's right, if you tell me, I will help your mother," I assured him, my voice gentle yet resolute.
"You just need to trust me and tell me everything."
