Dear Contract Wife, You Are Mine

Chapter 8

Title: Mr. Miles is gentle

Maybelline Walter POV

I yelped and touched my bandaged head, but the pain was so much that I could barely keep my eyes open. The ceiling was blurry at first when I tried to open my eyes, and seconds later, I saw a familiar figure towering over me. It was Miles.

“Are you ok?” I heard his deep voice, and I groaned as I touched my head again and winced painfully.

“My head… It hurts,” I groaned painfully as I rubbed my fingers on my forehead, but I felt him hold my hand.

“You have an injury there. It’ll hurt if you keep rubbing it like that. I’ll call the doctor to come and attend to you,” He stated, and I sighed briefly. This time, my vision was finally clear and I realized that I was in my room. Wasn’t I supposed to be in the hospital?

“Where am I?” I mumbled as I finally managed to sit up on the bed even though he tried to stop me.

“You are in your room. How are you feeling now?” He asked, his eyes piercing at me with concern and worries written all over him, and I briefly sighed.

“I’m fine. Where is Lily?” I asked him worriedly, recalling that we were together before the unfortunate incident happened earlier.

“She is being taken care of. She’ll be fine,” He replied to me, and I slowly nodded.

“Why is my head bandaged?” I asked as I touched my head again.

“You got injured after you hit your head against a metal at the park… I’m sorry I wasn’t there to protect you,” He held my hand and apologized. He rubbed my hands gently and affectionately, giving me the weird vibe that had me confused yet again.

“How am I here then?” I asked confusingly.

“You told me some time before that you don’t like hospitals, so I called my doctor to come and attend to you at home,” He explained to me, and I blinked my eyes shockingly. How did Mr. Miles remember such little details? How did he pay attention to that? I was going to blush because this felt like heaven when I remembered my pregnancy, and a tight gasp tore through my throat as I quickly held my stomach. Did he find out about the baby?

“Are you ok? Are you having stomach upset? Did that bastard hit you there?” He asked worriedly as he leaned forward, and I bit my bottom lip. It didn’t seem like he found out about the baby.

“Hmm… I’m fine. Uhm… I think I’m just hungry,” I lied to him, and he smiled.

“I’ll have Adelie make something for you. I’ll be back shortly,” He said before he stood up to leave, and just when he was about to walk out of the room, something crossed my mind.

“Mr. Miles… That man from earlier…” I paused and tried to recall his face, but everything felt blank and I couldn’t remember anything.

“Oh… He is Miguel, my little brother,” He replied to me, and my jaw dropped to the ground. Mr. Miles had never mentioned anything about having a brother, so I have always thought all this while that he was an only child who probably had no family like those billionaires I’ve read about in books.

“You made that up yourself, May. Besides, you both were not close enough to the extent of sharing personal information,” My subconscious mind reminded me, and I bit my bottom lip.Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.

“Oh,” I mouthed, not knowing what to say again. I had a lot of questions to ask him. Why that Miguel guy was at the park because I was sure it couldn’t just be a coincidence. How he knew me when he was probably seeing me for the first time, and how he knew that I was there and came to save my life just in time.

“Those are not necessary, May. The only important thing is the fact that you were saved,” Again, my subconscious mind said to me and I briefly sighed.

“One more thing… You don’t have to be so formal with me. You should call me by my name, Miles,” He said to me, and I slowly nodded. It’s going to be weird, but I guess I would really have to, since we were married now.

“I’ll be back,” And with that, he walked out of the room and closed the door gently behind him. I couldn’t deny the fact that my heart raced with everything he had done earlier. How could he make me feel this way when he was not even my spec?

“It’s nothing. It’s because you are hurt,” I convinced myself. As the thought of Oscar flashed through my mind, I couldn’t help but feel disgusted just thinking about him. How could he do that to me?

Pushing all the thoughts to the back of my mind, I looked around for my phone and quickly picked it up when I saw it lying carelessly on the nightstand. I was about to dial Lily’s number when the door burst open and Lily rushed inside.

“May darling… Are you ok?” She rushed over to sit with me on the bed. She examined my body with a worried look on her face.

“Oh, my… You hurt your head. It was all my fault,” She pouted her lips, and her eyes brimmed with tears.

“Come on, Lily. Stop being dramatic. It wasn’t your fault. Besides, I’m fine now,” I replied to her and smiled.

“Did you get hurt?” I asked her as I scrutinized her with my eyes.

“I just passed out after I hit my head on a metal, but no injury was sustained, so I’m fine,” She replied to me, and I nodded.

“What about you? Is your head fine? Does it hurt that much?” She pouted her lips again, and I managed to roll my eyes.

“I’m fine, Lily. It doesn’t hurt that much. I was worried about you, but I’m glad you are here now,” I pulled her in for a short embrace, and just then, a knock sounded on the door and she pulled away from me.

“Who is there?” I asked, and I heard an unfamiliar voice from outside. Lily gasped and covered her mouth.

“It’s that guy, May. The one that saved us at the park. He is super hot. Your brother-in-law is fucking hot,” She leaned forward and whispered as she gushed, and I rolled my eyes.

“Can I come in?” I heard him ask, and I quickly composed myself.

“Hmm. Come in,” The door opened and he walked inside. My jaw dropped to the ground when I saw the charming man. 6’3 tall, blonde wavy hair, chiseled face and sharp jawline with a pointed chin, pointed nose with sexy nose bridge, long eyelashes, thick eyebrows, and a pair of blue hazel eyes. For a moment, I thought those were contact lenses, but they were really his natural eyes. Have I talked about his sexy biceps and his toned abs that were almost visible through the white singlet he was wearing? He was everything sexy, but not as sexy as Mr. Miles.

“Wait! Why am I comparing them together?” I slapped myself mentally and swallowed nothing.

He had a striking resemblance with Miles, that was something I couldn’t deny.

“How are you feeling now, sister-in-law?” He asked as he smiled at me, revealing his set of white teeth and his one-sided dimple…
