~THE NEXT MORNING~
Selina woke up feeling moody. She checked her phone for any missed calls but couldn’t find any. They didn’t call her back.
She knew deep in her that they wouldn’t call her back because that’s the excuse all the companies she had applied for before had given her.
This was the final chance she had but she didn’t get it. She didn’t know what to do anymore.
“That damn interviewer dared to make fun of my desperation!!” She thought angrily.
“Even though he’s that handsome doesn’t mean he should lift someone’s hopes like that!!!”
“Or did he change his mind because I sounded desperate? Should I go back there and give him a better speech?” She wondered.
“No way.. That would make me seem too desperate. I have a pride to protect. It’s their loss that they didn’t employ me.” She said trying to console herself.
“I’m starving.” She said while rubbing her flat tummy.
She hadn’t eaten anything since she came back from the interview.
She sighed and stood up from the couch, heading to the kitchen. The opened the fridge and groaned tiredly when she found it empty.
She had almost forgotten her predicament.
“I guess I have to restock the fridge.” She thought and picked up her purse.
She opened it and was happy she still had a few dollar notes.
“This would be enough.” She thought and dressed more appropriately before leaving her apartment.
“Selina!!” She groaned when she heard that familiar voice.
“Mrs. Martha.” She answered feigning a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.
Mrs. Martha was her landlady.
“Keep your greetings to yourself. You have been avoiding me for a while now. You think I wouldn’t notice??” Mrs. Martha said in annoyance.
“It’s just that I’ve been very busy lately. I didn’t mean to avoid you.” Selina lied, feigning an innocent look.
“Really?? You are the only jobless person in this apartment and now you’ve added lying to your list of talents.” Selina frowned when she heard her comments.
“What do you want Mrs. Martha??” She asked angrily, not able to keep up with her innocent look.
“Your rent is almost overdue. You need to pay up!!” Mrs. Martha demanded.
“But I still have about two weeks left.”
“I just want to remind you that if you don’t pay up before the due date, the only place left for you to sleep in is the street.” Mrs. Martha said before leaving.
Selina clenched her fist angrily as she glared at her departing figure.
“Agrghh!!! This damn woman wouldn’t be able to harrass me like this if only I had gotten that job.” The thought angrily.
Just the bare thought of the interviewer made her insides boil. She used her fingers to comb her long blond hair tiredly.
“What am I going to do now?? I have no where else to stay if I’m thrown out of this apartment.” She thought.
“I need to get a new job quickly. I can’t sit at hope doing nothing.” She thought as she walked out tiredly.
*****************************
I held the shopping bags tiredly as I walked down the street. They were really heavy but they was nothing I could do.
I didn’t have any cent on me anymore. I decided to take the fastest route home which was an alley.
After walking fir a while, I heard strange noises. I stopped to listen well. They sounded like grunts. It seemed like two people where fighting. One of the voices sounded really familiar.
I didn’t know what came over me so I followed the voices. That was a very big mistake because what I saw make me shock to the bones.Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.
I saw cute guy… sorry the interviewer guy brutally beating some guy up. He had blood stain all over his shirt.
Obviously from the guy he was abusing.
My eyes widened when he suddenly brought out a pistol.
“I won’t ask again. who sent you? Who sent you to kill me??” He asked pointing the gun towards the almost lifeless man.
“Kill????” I thought puzzled still peeping at them.
“You will never find out. Just kill me!!”
“Do you really think I can’t?? The interviewer asked cocking his gun.
“Do you think this will end with just me dead? We are much bigger than you think. Kill me and you’ll never find ou…. bammmm
His words we cut short when the interviewer guy shot him straight to his head.
I used my hands to cover my mouth tightly so as to stop the scream that was threatening to burst out of my mouth.
Did he just…. just …. murder that guy??? I still couldn’t believe my eye.
He crouched near the dead man’s body and started searching for whatsoever.
When I couldn’t bare to watch it anymore, I started to take my leave sileny but mistakenly stepped on a can.
That seem to have alerted him because he suddenly looked up and pointed his gun towards my direction. I was quick enough to hide myself behind a wall.
“Who’s there??” He asked.
I didn’t reply. I held my chest in fear. I prayed deeply in my heart. I can’t die yet. I still have a lot of dreams for my self.
Suddenly, a sound was heard and he turned towards the direction.
I saw that as my cue and made a run for it. I left everything I bought from the grocery shop there because they would slow me down.
I’ll come back later for them. Probably not.
I smiled when I was almost out of the alley but someone suddenly gripped my shoulder.
I wanted to scream for help but my voice was muffled by a large hand.
I was dragged effortlessly back to the alley even though I struggled hard to escape.
My back was shoved roughly to a wall and I groaned in pain.
I looked up to see his hazel eyes staring down at mine. He moved his face closer to mine while I moved back in fear.
“Going somewhere princess??” He asked with a wide grin on his face.
What has my curiosity gotten me into??
