"You are telling me that that my father-"Fiona did not want to continue her words as her eyes widened at the man sitting next to her. However, the hurt and disappointment she expected to feel did not come. What came was confusion. Why would her own family want to kill her? She knew that her father had always been strict about rules and protocols in the pack, but she never saw him as someone willing to kill his own daughter.
Fiona sat on the edge of the bed, her eyes searching Elijah's face for answers. The confusion that clouded her mind was evident. The more she thought about it, the more she realized that she had been the target of all those attacks, not Elijah. "Yes," Elijah said. "Your family has made it clear that they want you dead. I need to know why."
Fiona shook her head, struggling to grasp the reality of the situation. "But why would they do that? My family has always been loyal to the Crimson Howlers. They wouldn't-
Elijah cut her off gently but firmly. "Do you know anything about your ancestors? Anyone from your family who might h had dealings outside the Crimson Howlers pack?"
Fiona frowned, her mind racing through fragments of family lore and history "Not really. We've always been isolated within the pack. My father spoke of our ancestors in vague terms, always emphasizing our loyalty to the pack. But there were rumors of old enemies, families that had once been powerful bit fell from grace." But there were none about her pack. They had always stayed inside Crimson Howler's territory. Even her old grandmother, who chose to stay away from the family and the pack, still lived in the territory, staying on the outskirts, living alone.
She hadn't really heard of any Rosenthals outside of the Crimson Howlers Pack.
Elijah leaned in, his expression intense. Those enemies-were there any specific names or families that stood out? Anything at alle
Fiona closed her eyes, trying to recall. "There were some vague mentions of a family named the Blackthornes. It's not a pack; it's a clan just like the Rosenthals. I believe they were really fast and were the fastest clan in the past. They were mentioned occasionally in hushed tones. They were supposedly powerful before their downfall. But that's all I know. My father never talked about them in detail."
Elijah nodded, absorbing the information. The Blackthornes was once a significant threat to the Crimson Howlers. They disappeared mysteriously, and their legacy became a dark part of our history. If your family had any connection to them, it could explain a lot "Are you telling me that my own family is preventing me from leaving the pack and, since I left, they are now trying to kill me to hide some sort of secret?" Fiona couldn't understand this at all. She thought her father and mother would just let her be once she left the pack Then she recalled Elise's words about their father killing her. She thought it was something her sister said just because she was angry. But what if it was true?
Fiona's eyes widened with realization. She added, "So, you think my family is involved in something more dangerous than just internal politics?" The Rosenthal family had always been low-key. They had healing abilities that they could have used to gain more power, but instead, they stayed with the Crimson Howlers Pack. Many called this extreme loyalty.
But what if it was something more?
Elijah's gaze was grave. It's possible. The fact that they would go to such extremes suggests there's more to the story. Your healing ability, or rather the suspicion that you have one, might be the key to understanding their motives.
Fiona took a deep breath, trying to process the gravity of what she was learning. "What do we do now?"
Elijah pursed his lips, then sighed. "We need to go to the palace
CRIMSON HOWLERS PACK
Zachariah Yelchin's study was a cluttered mess of paperwork. The once neatly organized space now bore the marks of his frustration. Piles of documents covered the desk, each of them a reminder of tasks Fiona used to handle. Stacks of reminders, notes, and unfinished reports lay scattered around, creating a chaotic landscape of unfinished business,
Zachariah's mood was sour as he glared at the long list of deadles and reminders. His frustration was palpable; he cursed under his breath as he scanned through the items Fiona had neglected before leaving. The paperwork seemed to mock him. each reminder a symbol of the tasks he now had to juggle.
A soft knock on the door broke his concentration. Zachariah looked up, his irritation barely contained. He had no patience for interruptions.
"Come in," he snapped.
Carrie, his mistress, and Fiona's former best friend, entered the room. Her presence did little to lift Zachariah's mood. "What are you doing here?" Zachariah's voice was sharp. "I'm swamped with work. I don't have time for He didn't finish his words when he saw the pastries in Carrie's hand.
"You have been here for hours... I... I thought you would be hungry," Carrie said. "You don't mind it, right?"
Zach cursed inwardly. However, his gaze landed on Carrie's stomach. It had been confirmed that she was indeed pregnant. and since he was the only man she had been with, he knew that he was the father of the child. "Put it on the table." Zach said. He didn't want to be harsh, but he truly didn't have the time for Carrie right now.
"Those are the things that you need to do?" Carrie asked after placing the pastries on the table. "I mean that is a lot. Did the Alpha give you more work?" Carrie's gaze shook. She immediately wondered if this was some sort of punishment for what Zach did. Zach looked at the paperwork again, irritation evident in his eyes. This had always been his job; these were his assigned tasks before he married Fiona. However, Fiona had been trained for these things. So, after they got married, he just gave them to her and let her handle these menial tasks. Instead of doing all the paperwork, he just focused on his training and making himself stronger.
After all, he is the future Alpha of the pack, and being strong is his responsibility.
Who would have thought that the bitch would actually leave? "No." Zach gave a short answer. He wanted Carrie to leave him he. Sadly, the latter didn't seem to understand his current predicament. She immediately approached him. "Oh, honey, if you need anything from me..."
"Will you just leave me be?" Zach interrupted her. Carrie is going to become his next wife very soon. She needed to learn these tasks, but because of their current circumstances, it had been delayed. This only added to Zach's frustration. If Carrie had been born from a well-known clan like the Rosenthals, then she wouldn't have had any problems learning these things. Sadly, she was not.
"You were not trained for any of this. I will ask Mother to start your training as soon as possible but for now..." He lifted his gaze. He then ignored the surprise and hurt on Carrie's face as he continued, "I needed to be alone. I have deadlines to
