Chapter 19
**
Frank’s POV
“Her number is not going through and She is not in the hospital, the doctor said her mother came to take away” I told Freddie as I tiredly sat on a couch.
“Didn’t Doctor John tell you which hospital she must have been admitted to? ” Freddie asked.
“He didn’t, maybe he has no idea” I replied and then yawn tiredlt.
“I haven’t been having good sleep since yesterday – since Paulina’s sudden attack” I said.
“And I have a feeling that she won’t make it up to school today” I included.
“Have you checked for her at home? I mean, her house…. where she stays” Freddie asked me.
“No, I haven’t”
“That’s the last place she will be at. So go to her house first before giving yourself false and bad conclusions” He advised.
“Oh you are right. I’ll go there now” I stood up.
“Should I come along? So it won’t look like I’m not concerned about the health of your new crush although not in approve of the goddamn sudden feelings” Freddie said and I put on a thankful smile.
“Yeah, let’s go” I said and he followed me.

Throughout the short Journey, my mind was on what will happen when I get to meet her.
That beautiful face, her smile, her voice. Everything.
We got to Paulina’s place quite soon, we alighted and told the driver to go nowhere but to wait till we return.
I pray Paulina is in there, I just can’t wait to see her. I took a brief sigh in front of the door before knocking on it.
After waiting for a while, a woman who I recongised to be Paulina’s aunt came to open the door for us.
“Good afternoon Mrs Bella. We came to see Paulina, where is she now? I’m expecting her in school tomorrow” I said but she startled me by bursting into tears.
“Both of you, come on in” She beckoned to us.
Good, I’ll get to see my tailless mermaid.
We walked into the sitting room.. And saw a young woman, downcast on a couch.
“Mrs Brown? ” Freddie called a woman who was looking sober. Paulina’s Mom I think. Wait, how did he know her?.. and why does she look sober too?
“Freddie? ” She called his name too.
Ok, they must have met somewhere before.
“I’ve never thought I will ever find you here Wintery, did you come here with Paulina? I’ve been unable to reach her” He said.
OK, please what’s going on here?
I turned to Freddie, confused and dumbfounded but I managed to say: ” What? ”
“I know Mrs Brown when I was in Kartella. She is Paulina’s mother. I mean the Paulina I told you about…”He told me then began to stammer.
“Huh…. Wait a minute, Paulina…. Paulina? Mrs Brown is Paulina’s mom and you are Paulina’s mom too right? Huh.. I.. I don’t understand” He stammered, confused, as confused I am.
“Where is Paulina? ” I asked referring to two Paulinas.
“.. And what’s happening here Mrs Browm? ” Freddie asked.
“Paulina, she – – she gave up the ghost” Bella said.
“Which of the Paulina? ” Freddie and I asked simultaneously.
But no one answered, later Mrs Brown did – crying profusely.
“I wish it didn’t happen. Paulina’s died of unsuccessful surgery” She said.
“I still don’t understand, what surgery? ”
“Who died? ” Yet Freddie asked.
* -*-* -*-*
The whole sad explanation was told by Mrs Bella.
How Paulina couldn’t bear the insults’ and saliva from everyone at Kartella and Dream High. How she almost became a sadist drown with depression, how she agreed to have a plastic surgery without hesitation, how she fell into the wrong hands and how the surgery turned out to be unsuccessful and the surgeon never told them it was.
How she came to Wintery to start a new life unknown to her and everyone that it was a dangerous one.© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
And how desperate she has always been to have a lover.
Every words were like a dream to them.
“It can’t be true” was the only sentence Freddie could say as tears rolled uncontrollably down his cheeks.
Frank was the shockest human being on earth that moment, it appeared like a dream and a big injury in his mind, heart and head. That Paulina is dead? Just when he was already getting used to her and having the real feelings.
At the mention of Plastic surgery, it drawn to him that he only fell in love with her beauty more and first.
Everything seems and sounds like a story. It sounds so unreal. How on earth could it be real ~like that?
If only there’s a time machine, Frank would go back in time and will forever be with Angela irrespective of how svxy or beautiful the ladies that would come his way may be. Freddie would have read the story to Paulina and she wouldn’t have had the Plastic surgery no matter the number of people that may convince her to. She would rather remain true to herself.
Everything would have been fine but now, no.. Reverse is the case.
Freddie stumbled on the floor and cried his heart out, Frank was crying too.. Everyone was.
When visitors, from the hospital and others came to sympathise with them. They (Freddie and Frank) just had to leave.
Good, they had a driver because if anyone of them was going to drive the car, something really worst would happen.
They came here in a slight good mood but now they are leaving with the most sorrowful look and wet eyes.
Paulina is dead? What? How? Why? Why? Why?
“I met Paulina three years ago at Uncle Timothy’s place, when we both went there to celebrate Christmas” Freddie started to say.
The death of one can make another remember even the least memory.
“I told you to come along with me on an ice – skatting but you insisted on lying on the bed and to continue to chat with your new lover, Angela” He paused then sniffed severally.. His eyes were so red and the tears won’t stop pouring.
“Then I went alone to have all fun to myself apart from skatting on the ice. Then I met Paulina, she was sitting on the floor, watching all of us as we skatt, I could see it in her countenance that she wished to join, I… I stopped and walked over to her, I wanted to have a word or two with her but she covered her face, stood up and ran away from me.
That was the first time I felt something in me, it made me stay, it made me go to Uncle Timothy’s place every now and then, it made me decide to school there when I found out that she attended Dream High, where is she now?” He screamed and continued to cry terribly.
“I’m… I am sorry” is the only thing I could say.
I can not even describe this present feeling. It’s the mixture of all bad feelings.
Rest in Peace Paulina Brown.
