Chapter 1
I ran towards our pack house to inform Das, my ever loving mate of the news. I was very happy because of it. I felt like I owned the world now and that finally after three years, our marriage was already complete.
We had been mated for three years without any pups but we were still very happy either way. Dax loved me so much and so I was very excited to give him the news
I got to the pack house and met him giving instructions to a few pack members. His eyes lit up when he saw me and so did mine. We were inseparable. What we had was long lasting. It was never going to end.
“Kira, you are back so early” He said while smiling and walking up to me.
I ran to him and threw my arms around him. I was grinning from ear to ear. He lifted me in his arms and was rocking me back and forth
“Tell me deare, why are you so happy?” He mused.
I leaned into his ear and whispered. “You are going to be a father
He stopped rocking me back and forth and then carefully dropped me down. The shocked expression on his face made me throw my head back in delightful laughter.
“You are carrying a child” He asked, still in shock.
“Our child?” He asked further.
My laughter only increased as a result of it.
He threw me in the air and caught me and then twirled me around in utter joy.
“My mate is with a child. The Luna is with child.” He yelled.
Other werewolves around all began to roar in happiness. Finally the pack Alpha would have an heir that would rule in his stead. I was certain the news would spread around the pack like wild fire in no time, and it made me pleased that a few of the pack members who’ve definitely gossiped about how I’d never be able to produce an heir for the alpha, would have to eat their words now!
We sat down by the fire that night outside the pack house. Just gazing at the forest and the stars. I was in his arms, against his broad chest. He kept stroking my hair and kissing it every chance he got. It was such a lovely gesture and my heart swelled in love.
I could love no other the way I loved Dax. I was so sure about that. We stayed there together with each other enjoying the natural scenery and the peace that existed between us.
Just then, through the flickering flames, I saw someone coming. At first the images weren’t so clear and so I shifted to my amber werewolf eyes and that was when I saw her.
She kept walking like she was certain that this was where she was headed although her steps were not so coordinated. She was staggering as she walked.
“Dax 1 called his name and pointed to the clearing of the forest that led directly to our pack house.
“Do you see that? There is someone headed our way I mumbled curiously.
He sprang up and pulled me behind him. His langs protruded. His eyes turned red to signify the authority and the bloodthirsty tendency of Alphas. He was ready to protect me. It was snarling. That always managed to make my heart flutter no matter what
As the person approached. his snarls reduced. He was way taller than I was and so I had to tiptoe to see what was going on over his shoulder.
“Alexa? I heard him say.
I came out from behind him to see the woman staggering towards him. She looked very haggard and worn out.
I looked at Dax and from the startled and shocked look on his face. I could tell that he knew who she was. She collapsed to the ground, or was about to, but he immediately closed the distance and caught her.
I blinked in confusion as I stared at him as he dished out instructions to his Beta and then the maids, ordering them to prepare a room for her in our home, right in the pack house.
I could not explain what I felt when he actually gave instructions for her to be treated and taken care of. I had thought that he’d question her or something, but instead, he welcomed her. I had so many questions, anger was blooming in my chest but I chose not to question him at that point because he looked very distraught and frankly, I could not understand why.
“Who was this stranger that he was so worked up over? Who he referred to as Alexa?” I thought to myself.
When he had already laid her to rest, he still remained by her side. I was very furious but I had to just put up with it for the sake of my love for him and for our unborn child. Any unnecessary quarrels with him would not be good for my condition.
When we were finally alone in our room, he had already taken a shower and was ready to go to bed when I told him that we needed to talk.
“What is it about. Kira?” He asked softly
“It is mainly because of this stranger.” I said in a small and cool voice.
“Don’t you think that it is unwise to let a stranger stay within our territory and worse off, within our home. What if she is a spy who has been sent by another territory to cause havoc and get you eliminated?” I asked anxiously.
He smiled and then kissed my head, “it is nothing like that dear Kira. I know who she is perfectly well”
That got me looking at him in shock. Well I anticipated the fact that he knew her judging by the way he had called her, but “perfectly well!” That raised a series of questions in my head.
“What do you mean, Dax?” I asked him.
He sighed, “she is actually my first mate. Alexa Hills”
My eyes grew wide like saucers. This was one of those moments when you hear those non-existent bells in your head telling you that there is danger ahead.Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
“Yes Kira. And I am sorry but I cannot turn her away. She is here to stay permanently. In fact,” he paused.
Somehow I felt like I did not want to hear what he wanted to say next.
“I want to mate with her again. And since she is my true first mate, you would have to step-down as Luna. It was rightfully hers in the first place.” He finished softly.
My head was twirling in different directions. How could he say things like these? He has only just met her after so long.
Tell me Dax, why is she just returning now? Why does she have to return when our family is finally going to be made whole with the birth of my child: J said.
My voice was breaking and by now, tears were already beginning to form at the corners of my eyes and were freely falling down the sides of my face.
How could he just reduce me to nothing over a stranger who had materialized out of nowhere.
“Even if she were your first mate Dax, that has nothing to do with me and my position as Luna. You just saw her tonight after she had been gone for so long and you are already planning to mate with her?” I asked.
My heart was shattered by his revelation.
“When did you decide to do this Dax. When did you decide to kick your child and I to the curb?” I asked through my tears.
He cupped both sides of my face in his arms and looked into my eyes intently, “no no, do not say that Kira, please.” He begged.
“How can I not? When you have chosen a total stranger over your family.” I said grudgingly.
“I promise you, nothing is going to change. It will even be far better than it used to be because now, our family is bigger than the way it used to be. There will be an additional werewolf in our family and it will only strengthen my reign as Alpha of this territory and pack. He explained.
Ts your position as Alpha all that you care about? What about our happiness? My happiness?” I asked him.
My heart kept breaking to pieces but I was trying so hard to hold onto what he was telling me. More than anything in my life, I trusted him and him alone. He was all that I cared about including my baby. He had the majority of my love, trust and care.
“I love you Kira.” He said and kissed me even with the tears that had already stained my face. Then he bent low and moved to kiss my belly where my baby was gradually growing.
“I love you so much and I love our child too. I will never allow anything to happen to you at all. I will make sure to take good care of you. More so now that you are in this delicate condition.” He assured me as he placed his forehead against mine in a very romantic manner.
“I want to trust you, Dax. I want to trust you on this with all my heart.” I whispered desperately.
He kissed me once again gently on the lips and let it linger for a while before looking back at my face, “I promise my lovely Kira.”
My heart was completely broken by his decision. I did not say anything because there was nothing that I could say since he had already made up his mind. I was very helpless in my current situation with no hope.
