CEO’s Unloved Wife

Chapter 3

Karen POV

Two years later…

It’s been two years since the demise of mom, and somehow, I’m already getting over it, but it’s still difficult to forget about it completely. I’ve been working as a broker to Mr. Ryan, the young CEO of Ryan empire, a construction company.

It’s been almost two years since I started working for Ryan, and I must confess that it has been the best experience of my life so far. Ryan is a nice handsome dude but can be very crazy, and for that, I always do my best to avoid having any issues with him. I’m a crazy type myself, and it wouldn’t be a good turn, having issues with him.

It’s Friday today, being the last working day of the week. All I’ll need to do in the office today is work on the activities of the past days, work on my boss’s schedule, and contact his clients too.

I’ve been busy all through the week, going to one meeting or the other, since my boss has been busy with some things lately, the responsibility of the meetings shifted to me, and I must confess that I’ve been stressed out.

“Bye, dad.”I hugged dad partially, before leaving for work. Stepping out of the house, I walked over to the parking lot, and hopped in on my favorite pink sports car, before driving out of the compound, and in the next few minutes, I was already on my way, driving to the company.

As I drove on the road, I kept glancing at my wristwatch, to make sure I was not late for work. The last thing I want now is to get on my boss’s nerves, I don’t want him acting all crazy today.Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.

After driving for what seemed like forever, I finally got to the gate of the company and drove inside. I parked at the parking lot, and alighted from the car, before striding to the entrance door. As soon as I stepped into the company, my colleagues kept waving at me, as I walked through the lobby. I finally got to the front of our office, and I sighed softly, before pushing it open, after which I walked inside, and I’m happy I’m not so terribly late, as there were a few staff around.

“Hi, Karen.”They all greeted me excitedly, and I smiled at them, before walking over to my seat.

“Finally you’re here, I’ve been waiting for you. I’ve missed you so much.”My crazy friend, Mavis whined, as she stood up from her seat, and came to hug me. Gosh! She’s so crazy.

“Oh please, don’t be so clingy. We saw each other yesterday, so stop making it look like we haven’t seen for long.”I rolled my eyes, and she huffed.

“Can you be appreciative for once?”She scoffed, as she ruffled my hair, and started running away.

“You!”I grunt in between gritted teeth, as I pointed my finger at her sternly.

The sound of my ringing phone distracted me, and I glared at her, before reaching out to my phone, and sliding the answer button, not even bothering to check who the caller was.

“Meet me in my office.” A familiar voice came, and the call disconnected immediately. I gasped sharply, and glanced at the screen of my phone, before grimacing, I know I’m in for some shit now.

I stood up sluggishly from my seat, and arranged my messy hair, before walking briskly towards the door.

“Where are you going, Karen?”Mavis yelled after me, and I stopped walking, before tilting my head to look at her with a smirk on my face.

“Going to report you to the CEO. You’re playing on duty, be ready to get your sack letter in a jiffy.”I winked at her, and with that, I walked out of the office and closed the door behind me.

I walked through the hallway, till I got to the front of his office, and I rolled my eyes at nothing, before twisting the doorknob, and peeked in to see his secretary, sitting behind his desk, typing away his life on the desktop. I wonder what kind of human being he is, he never gets tired, when everyone is resting, he’s always working, I doubt if the annoying and crazy boss is even paying him double of other worker’s salaries. I think I need to ask him for confirmation.

“Hi, Jeffrey.”I smiled, as I greeted almost in a whisper.

“Karen.”He called surprisingly with a smile on his face, as he raised his gaze to look at me.

“You’re working this early morning again? Do you ever get tired?”I cupped my cheeks, while giving him a pitiful look. He must be going through a lot.

“Yeah, I have a deadline to meet up with.”He smiled and resumed working.

“Is this always happening? Anyways, how much is the CEO paying you?”I asked curiously. Honestly, I don’t know when I turned into a talkative, but I’m really curious right now.

“Huh?”He gave me a questioning look. I believe he wasn’t deaf when I asked that question just now?

I opened my mouth to talk when my phone came ringing, and I ended the call, without even checking who the caller was.

“Didn’t the boss send for you?”He asked with a smirk on his face, and I gasped sharply. Gosh! I have forgotten that I’m here for something.

Walking over to the door to the CEO’s office, I placed a soft knock on it many times but got no reply.

“Is he in?”I turned to Jeffrey and asked confusingly while pointing at the door. I don’t think he’s in, because if he is, he should’ve answered, or maybe he has lost his sense of hearing.

“Yes.”Jeffrey nodded, and I gave him a confused look, before I finally pushed the door open, and peeked in to see him standing at the window side while looking out. Wow! So he’s been here all these times that I’ve been knocking?

“You sent for me…”

“Why the heck, did you decline my call?”He asked calmly, as he stayed in the same position, and I stared at his back confusingly. I didn’t remember him calling me. I gasped sharply, as it dawned on me that I ended a call just now, gosh! How could I not have known that he was the one calling?

“I’m sorry sir, my mistake,”I said almost in a whisper.

“Get ready, you’re going to be meeting a client in thirty minutes.”He said, and I snapped my head up. What! I have a lot of work to do today…
