Chapter 7
Author’s POV
She stubbornly reassured herself he was the one and was just playing hard to get as she walked towards the point he took a seat.
She reached the spot and leaned on the table which had a bottle of whiskey on it, staring at him as he stared at his phone and didn’t spare her a glance.
Without breaking her gaze, she walked and took a seat beside him, leaning on his shoulder as he stared at her confusingly, adjusting to the edge of the seat.
She moved closer to him, tugging onto his arm, snuggling closer to him.
“Get your hands of me, slut!!” He fired angrily.
The word “slut”, resounded in her ears as she stared at him with disgust.
“Doesn’t he remember me?, Why’s he acting weird?” She asked herself and stubbornly clinged onto his arm again and he shook her arm off his.
She rose from the seat and glared daggers at him with disgust before emptying the content of the glass she held on him, turning around and storming away.
His gaze flew from his wet and stained jacket to her retreating figure as he couldn’t find her amongst the crowd anymore, wondering why she acted so irrational and if he knew her from somewhere before.
“Alcohol isn’t everyone’s thing” he muttered before taking of his jacket angrily and storming out of the club, regretting why he came there in the first place.
Sydney picked her bag and exited the club through the staffs exit, as she couldn’t decipher why he pretended not to recognize her after disappearing posterior to their unforgettable one night stand.
She boarded a taxi which took her to her apartment and after freshening up, she laid on her bed and couldn’t catch an atom of sleep because of tiring thoughts so she decided to distract herself with her phone.
She remembered she activated the “do not disturb” mode, which obstructed her notifications and she deactivated the mode as notifications flooded her screen immediately.
She clicked on an email notification and it was from a company she applied for a job and it stated that she has been invited for an interview the next day.
She was super excited and immediately forgot about the incident that took place at the club.
She set an alarm for 5AM before sleeping off happily.
The next morning, the sound of the alarm woke her up as she stumbled out of bed and freshened up before settling on a formal outfit of a milk coloured sleeve and black palazzo pants.
She had breakfast and picked her pouch and a file containing her CV before heading out of her apartment.
She boarded a taxi and reached the company after an hour and twenty minutes. She paid the fare and walked towards the entrance of the building.
She met with the receptionist who showed her the HR department. She was given a seat while she awaited the manager. He arrived and she handed him her curriculum vitae which he took to his office.
He sent for her and commended her CV, before asking her about her previous work experience.
“Honestly sir, I am interested in an entry-level position, I know I have much to learn and I am looking for an opportunity to help me build a strong professional foundation” she stated, and he was impressed by her way of explaining the fact that she has no experience.
“So, are you trying to say you had no job or occupation before now?” He asked.
“Yes sir” she said dishonestly.
“Okay, you have the job, you can resume tommorow and take note of the fact that this company tolerates no form of immoral or indecent behaviour” he said to her and she was happy she didn’t reveal anything about her previous job.
“Thank you so much sir, I’ll do my best to make my presence in this company a factor to boost its productivity” she said and he nodded affirmatively with a smile as she collected her CV and stepped out of his office, joyously.
She returned to her apartment and happily made arrangements for her first day at work. She noticed a document amongst her CV and read through it.
The document contained information about her pay and the company’s code of conduct. The pay was mouthwatering as she hopped excitedly around her apartment.
Nightfall arrived and she slept off with a gladened heart.
The next morning, she observed her morning ritual of having a warm bath and brushing her teeth before dressing up and wearing a very light make up as she packed her hair in a ponytail and wore wedges.
She stepped out of her apartment and happily boarded a taxi which transported her to the company’s gate. She stepped down after paying the driver and walked towards the company’s entrance.
The receptionist pointed the elevator which led to the last floor where her office was located. The elevator’s entrance was about shutting when she stepped in and noticed someone else inside.
She elevated her gaze, and stared at the face, only to find out he was also gazing down at her. She recognized the face immediately and returned her gaze to the floor.Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
“Stripper from the club” he blurted out, chuckling annoyingly.
She panicked immediately, realizing that he recognized her.
“I’m doomed!” She said to herself inwardly.
The elevator came to a halt and he stepped out first. She ran after him and stood before him, obstructing his way and stared at him pleadingly.
“Please, no one must hear about this” she pleaded and he smirked mischievously.
“Please, name your price, just don’t let anyone know about this” she blurted out hurriedly, afraid of losing a job she hasn’t even started and he still didn’t say anything.
“I’m begging you in the name of…….” Her statement was cut short the moment she noticed a figure behind the man she was begging. She stared at the both of them in confusion and they gazed at her in return, one coldly and the other, mischievously.
“Who…” she started, only to pause midway when they both walked out on her, leaving her in her state of beffudlement.
She stared at their retreating figures and her legs wobbled.
