Chapter 109
Paxton and Sydney had been back from New York for a few months before they decided to binge-watch a movie together just for the sake of being happy.
They both agreed on a funny romantic comedy, laughing and joking throughout.
As the night went on, things got more heated between them and soon enough they were making out. It felt right and natural at the moment.
Before they knew it, they were in Paxton’s bedroom and things escalated quickly.Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
They both wanted it, and they were soon having sex. Even though they were both consenting adults, Sydney felt a twinge of regret afterwards.
She hadn’t expected things to move so fast and wasn’t sure if she was ready for the complexities that come with a relationship.
Paxton was just as confused.
He had feelings for her, but he also knew they were new to each other and the enormity of what had just happened was starting to sink in.
They both opted to take a step back and try to process everything that had happened.
In the end, their friendship was able to survive, although things changed between them.
Neither of them could forget the night they spent together.
They had connected on a level that was deeper than when they initially started.
Despite the result, it was clear that the night had pushed their relationship to the next level.
“So you’ll never guess what happened yesterday,” Sydney said.
“What? Did something exciting happen?” Amanda asked as they were on a conference call
“You could say that. I had sex with Paxton,” she said so casually but her heart was pumping more than she could imagine.
“Wait, Paxton? Isn’t he Jaxton’s brother?” Kimberly asked in surprise.
“Yeah, that’s him. I’ve known him for a while, as we worked together and we’ve been getting closer. I guess it just felt right.” She said not knowing how to phrase the whole ordeal.
“It sounds like you two have some real chemistry,” Amanda said matter of fact.
“We do. We weren’t looking for anything serious, but it just kind of happened. I feel bad because I know Jaxton is going to be mad when he finds out.” Sydney tried to explain.
“Well, if you two feel that way about each other, then it’s not a big deal. Just talk to Jaxton and explain how you feel.” Kimberly said as she knew what could be brewing for her friend if she didn’t talk with her boyfriend.
“Yeah, you’re right. I’m sure he’ll understand,” she said trying to convince herself.
Paxton and Sydney found themselves in an incredibly awkward situation at work.
Paxton had been Sydney’s boss for many months but hadn’t been aware that she and his brother were dating.
Upon realization of the relationship, he had broken it off with her. Still, the two found themselves working together again.
A deep silence filled the air as they tried their best to avoid looking each other in the eyes.
Sydney felt a tremendous amount of shame and guilt for the mistakes she had made.
She had crossed a line by sleeping with her boss, let alone the fact that it was his brother. Paxton felt uneasy as he couldn’t help but throw accusing glances her way.
The two worked through the morning in tense silence, unable to even look each other in the eye.
Sydney kept her head down, feeling guilty for the wrong she had done, while Paxton couldn’t seem to look away.
It was so uncomfortable that eventually, they decided to take a break and leave the office for lunch.
During their lunch break, they talked more openly and tried to work through the awkwardness between them.
Sydney apologized profusely, while Paxton was honest with his feelings.
Although it had been uncomfortable, they made a sort of peace with one another before they had to return to work.
After their lunch break, the two couldn’t help but feel a bit more relaxed being able to talk and address the elephant in the room.
They were still professional and polite with one another, although the tension hadn’t completely dissipated; however, Sydney’s guilt was slightly reduced knowing that Paxton had forgiven her.
Even though their conversation was still quite awkward, it was much less awkward than when they first arrived at work.
He walked into her office when she was having a deep thought about everything that had been going on from when they were in New York City, and he wanted to make sure that she still was a friend to him even if she didn’t want a relationship.
“Hey Sydney, I hope you’re having a great week. I was hoping to ask if you’d want to grab lunch with me tomorrow. It would be great to catch up and see how things are going” he asked awkwardly secretly hoping she accepted.
“I know we had a bit of a disagreement the other day, but that doesn’t mean our work relationship has to suffer. I was hoping a lunch date could be a chance for us to put the past behind us and start fresh!’ he continued to say.
“Let me know what you think. Anytime and any place is great for me – I’m just looking forward to catching up and enjoying some good food!” he said as Sydney looked at him.
Sydney eagerly accepted Paxton’s offer to go to lunch.
She was thrilled that he had asked her out and was looking forward to spending some quality time getting to know him better.
Sydney was also excited to try out a new restaurant that she had heard about from friends.
She knew it was a great opportunity to share a meal and make an even stronger connection.
When they arrived at the restaurant, they both ordered their favourite dishes and enjoyed a delicious meal. Over lunch, they talked and laughed about life, and current events, and shared stories of their past experiences.
Sydney felt herself growing even more fond of Paxton – he was thoughtful, charming, and quite the conversationalist.
After lunch, they walked back to Sydney’s car and said their goodbyes with promises to do it again soon.
Sydney was glad that she accepted Paxton’s offer to lunch; it had been an enjoyable, meaningful, and memorable experience. She couldn’t help but smile as she drove away, feeling even more connected to Paxton than ever before.
