Chapter 4 He Chose Her
Chapter 4 He Chose Her
The company’s higher-ups quickly arranged the new president’s office and a high-level meeting was scheduled for later that afternoon.
The former executive, Mr. Smith, flatteringly asked, “Mr. Lancaster, this is your first day in our company. Do you want to arrange a new secretary so you can better understand our company?”
As Mr. Smith spoke, his eyes meaningfully fell on several young and beautiful female secretaries. Obviously, he wanted to use women to please the president.
Alexia stood by the side watching so, naturally, she could see the executive’s expression directly. A new secretary? Humph! What was even more irritating was that Chaim didn’t seem to refuse!
“Good proposal, Mr. Smith.” Chaim stopped as he looked back.
There was no noticeable expression on his face, but the female secretaries waiting around him blushed, looking at him with shyness, expecting to be selected.
Chaim raised his chin and seemed to choose a person without any consideration. “Just her.”
The female secretary standing there instantly smiled and blushed.
“Oh, Mr. Lancaster, you have a good taste! Although Lucy joined the company this year, her working ability is particularly good.” Mr. Smith took the opportunity to flatter.
Chaim frowned, “No, not her. I mean the person next to her.”
“Next to her?”
Mr. Smith looked over in surprise, seeing Alexia bowing her head and trying to back up.
Chaim had said he didn’t want to expose their relationship, so Alexia naturally followed his meaning. But she didn’t expect all eyes to fall on her suddenly.
“Mr. Lancaster, you mean Ms. White?” Mr. Smith asked, surprised.
“Me?” Alexia looked up in shock, and everyone in the corridor stared at her. Surprised, thoughtfully, and even disdainfully.
Lynn, along with Alexia, also didn’t expect it.
“Aily!” She tugged Alexia’s hand hard and whispered, “The president chose you. Did you hear that! You’ve really been chosen!”
“Yes, I heard it.” Alexia tried to pull out her hand away from the pain.
“Mr. Lancaster, are you sure you want Ms. White as your secretary?” Mr. Smith asked again in disbelief.
Mr. Smith had been in the company for so long. Naturally, he knew what Alexia looked like, a totally unglamorous woman. Why did Mr. Lancaster want her?
“Yes.” Chaim nodded with a little displeasure. “If you’re not satisfied with my choice, then you can tell me who I should choose instead.”
Among so many women with heavy make-up on the spot, only Alexia was acceptable.
“No, no. Mr. Lancaster, you do have a sense of humor.” Mr. Smith dared to say no more.
He hurriedly called Alexia over and whispered to her with a claptrap expression, “Alexia, as Mr. Lancaster’s exclusive secretary, remember to assist Mr. Lancaster well. If you have questions at work, you can ask me.”
“... O, okay.” Alexia responded in a daze.
She didn’t know why Chaim would choose her as his secretary. Because their relationship would be easier if they worked together? She furtively glanced over to Chaim as he averted his eyes.
He addressed the room coldly and his voice boomed throughout the room, “From now on, employees in the company must dress professionally, and I don’t want to see anyone trying to disrupt the atmosphere in the office. Otherwise, be gone with your things.”
He piercingly glanced at a few scantily dressed female white-collars in the crowd, scaring them into hurriedly pulling up their collars.
Chaim whispered a few words to Mr. Smith before leading executives into the conference room.
Once the conference room door was closed, Alexia breathed a sigh of relief.

During the lunch break, she didn’t go out to eat, but waited for the delivery driver at her seat.
She could faintly hear people around her talking about her.
Lynn handed her a cup of milky tea, holding her chin and said enviably, “Aily, you’re lucky. You have a chance to see Mr. Lancaster every day. Why am I not as lucky as you?”
“Lucky? It’s the same as working for someone else. Besides, I’m going to work with Mr. Lancaster, the new president, so I can’t be lazy! Maybe I’ll be fired.” Alexia responded, not noticing that several people came at the door.
The man walking at the front of the group wearily loosened his tie, wanting to inspect the staff cafeteria accompanied by several executives. Alexia paid attention to her milky tea, not noticing the movement
behind her.
“Why?” Lynn asked, focused on Alexia without seeing people approaching, “Mr. Lancaster is so handsome, which gives people motivation to go to work every day just so they can keep looking at him.”
“What’s the use? Can I feed myself with that? I might as well drink more cups of milky tea” Alexia murmured.
Married to Chaim for three years, she had only met him twice in total and their first night took place without her awareness. She felt nothing except pain.
Well, it’s not really as good as the milky tea in her hand.
“You are really—” Lynn was about to complain that Alexia was unaware of her good fortune when she suddenly glimpsed a person behind her, so her subconsciously looked back, and immediately stood up in fear.
“Mr. Lancaster!”
