Chapter 23 You Can't Leave

"Erin."

Blanche nervously looked at Erin's swollen face and turned to glare at Zach. She itched to rush over and punch the douche bag in the face. Unfortunately, she was outnumbered.

"Drink up, miss," Zach slurred, reeking of alcohol.

After a few seconds of silence, Blanche looked up.

"Fine. I'll drink."

"No, you can't drink that much. I'll lick his boots. It won't kill me anyway." Erin stopped her. So much alcohol would surely harm Blanche, and this thing arose from her at the end of the day.

Blanche patted the back of her hand and spoke softly.

"Don't worry. I have a plan."

"If you're brave enough, take off your mask and drink. Stop pretending and show me your face."

Blanche glanced at the wine on the table and the leering men in the room before she made a request.

"But first, I need to use the bathroom."

Someone protested. "You're so demanding."

"Let her go. We'll show her mercy. She can't escape anyway." Zach nodded unexpectedly. This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.

Blanche entered the bathroom and stood in front of the mirror. She took a deep breath and thought of those drunkards outside before fishing a pen from her bag and starting to draw on her face.

Outside, something laughed.

"Did you see the big news today? Louis isn't disabled at all! After that car accident, I thought he was lucky to survive with broken legs. But it turns out he's fine. Crazy world, isn't it?"

"Yeah. He's not crippled, and he got married. Ha-ha, I think his brain is damaged, or else he wouldn't have married that ugly woman named Blanche. She is so ugly that she has to wear a mask every day."

"Hahaha! It cracks me up. The CEO of the Herbart Group fell for an ugly girl."

"Hahaha..."

Sarcastic laughter erupted outside.

In the bathroom, Blanche heard their laughter. As she continued to draw on her face, her heart was pounding. To her surprise, these men were so gossipy.

Three minutes later, she emerged from the bathroom.

The men stopped laughing and turned to look at her.

"Now you can take off your mask and drink, right?"

Their voracious eyes were fixed on her. They seemed to be expecting to see a pretty face revealed.

People are always like this, full of anticipation for the unknown.

Blanche unhurriedly nodded before picking up a glass of wine and sending it to her mouth.

She stroked the glass and surreptitiously studied the lighting in the room. Every fifteen seconds, a bright light would flash by. She was waiting for that moment.

As soon as the light appeared, she didn't hesitate to rip off her mask.

"Watch this, everyone. I'm drinking it right now," she said, throwing her head back and downing the wine in one gulp.

In an instant, the bright light illuminated her strange face, and the atmosphere in the room shifted.

Someone spoke in a trembling voice. "What did I just see?"

"Did you guys see that?"

The crowd looked stunned.

When the light had shone on Blanche's face, they had all opened their eyes wide, eager to see her beauty. But what they saw was something else entirely. It was an unsightly face smeared with red and black, like a bloody spiderweb. Her huge black lips were parted to reveal a bloody mouth. She looked like a ferocious ghost.

How could someone look so horrible?

"Was that a ghost or a person?" someone asked.

No one answered. They all seemed to be in shock.

Zach wiped the sweat from his forehead. He was kind of sober and spoke seriously.

"Shut up! Of course, it's a person. How could there be a ghost? This woman is just ugly."

Blanche picked up another glass of wine and approached Zach.

"Mr. Churchill is right. There are no ghosts in this world. I am human, but I was disfigured when I was little. I may look scary, but come on. It's not fun for me to drink alone. Mr. Churchill, let me toast you."

She leaned closer to him, her terrifying face looming larger as she bared her teeth. Zach's eyes widened in horror, and his stomach churned.

Unable to hold back, he threw up.

This was the ugliest woman he had ever seen.

"Get out of here, you ugly thing."

The others were also filled with wine, and the unpleasant scene made their stomachs churn. It was sickening.

"Barf." They covered their stomachs and retched.

Blanche deliberately stayed near Zach, trying to disgust him. When he recovered, he immediately pushed her away.

"Get lost. Put your mask back on and leave. You're so damn ugly and terrifying. This is fucking crazy."

The alcohol started to go to her head. Blanche tried to fight off the dizziness while Erin came over to help her.

Blanche put her hand on her forehead, trying to hold on.

"Is this a request, Mr. Churchill?"

"Get out of here."

Blanche was completely unable to handle her alcohol. She put her mask back on while Erin looked at her guiltily.

"I'm sorry I made you drink, Blanche."

"It's okay. Let's go." Blanche shook her head. This place was too dangerous for them to linger in.

Erin hurriedly helped Blanche to head out.

Zach shouted, "Damn it! I'm going to throw up my guts. What bad luck! How can there be such an ugly woman? Call an ambulance. I need to go to the hospital."

But among them, a thin man tottered to his feet and stared at the retreating figure. His turbid eyes swiveled as something occurred to him.

"Wait! Don't let her go! I know who she is! That ugly woman is Blanche, the notorious Mrs. Herbart."

"What? She's Blanche?"

"Yes, I can't be mistaken."

"This ugly woman took off her mask on purpose to scare us. She scared me so much that I threw up my guts. We can't let her go. Call over that kid Louis. I saw him playing cards in the next room when I came in. Make him pay for our mental damages."

The man was obviously drunk and spoke in a flippant tone.
