Chapter 16 A Shallow Man
As she turned her head, Blanche noticed that Eric had come closer and was staring at her intensively.
Eric was taken aback by her stunning beauty and couldn't help but feel a flutter in his heart as he gazed into her bright eyes. Her forehead was smooth and fair, and he had the urge to move closer.
Blanche stepped back and touched her face. "Why are you staring at me like that? Is there something on my face?"
Eric was enchanted by her fingers, which were also beautiful. His gaze moved downward, taking in her slender swan-like neck, which seemed to glow in the sunlight.
A broad smile spread across his face, revealing his pearly white teeth. "They say you're ugly. Can you take off your mask and let me see what you really look like?"
Somewhat inexplicably, he found himself utterly captivated by the allure of Blanche.
As Eric came closer, Blanche furrowed her brow. She was already pressed against the fence and had nowhere else to go.
She glanced at him and narrowed her eyes. "Don't come any closer. But do you really want to see?"
Eric obediently stopped and looked at her expectantly. "Yes, I do."
"Okay, I'll show you."
Blanche seemed to be moved by Eric's eagerness and reached up to remove her mask.
As he Watched this scene, Louis' eyes were about to spout fire. His eyes twitched twice.
"Sir, Mrs. Herbart seems unaware of the dangers of society. Shall I step in and intervene?" Sam asked.
But Louis was unmoved. He was feeling conflicted at the moment.
He was about to see Blanche's face without her mask, and he felt both angry and oddly jealous. How could this woman reveal her face in front of others? Exclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.
Blanche blinked and pulled the string on her mask. "Don't blink, and I'll only show you once. If you miss it, it's not my fault."
Eric's heart was racing. "Okay."
Just as she was about to remove her mask, two angry voices suddenly spoke up.
"What are you two doing!" Louis' voice was harsh and abrupt, as he appeared in front of them.
"If you want to see me make a fool of myself, there's no need for you to stick around." Blanche also let go of the string on her mask and curled her finger to deliver a sharp punch to Eric's head.
Both Blanche and Eric were stunned. How could he be here? Had Louis heard what they were saying earlier?
"Louis, what are you doing here?" Eric was embarrassed.
"Two people who are supposed to be at the hospital at two o'clock are wandering around outside?" Louis commented, looking at his watch. He was speaking to Eric, but his gaze was fixed on Blanche.
"Oh no, we're late again. Grandma is going to scold us. Blanche, see you next time. I have to go." Eric ran away, his face turning pale.
His grandmother was always fond of punctual people. She would set a time for everything, and if someone was one minute late, they would be lectured for at least half an hour. Their ears would be ringing by the end of it.
Eric fled in a panic, and Blanche opened her mouth in surprise. Was their grandmother really that terrifying? Her cheeks flushed as she turned away, only to be met with the cold stare of Louis. She pouted and pulled out her phone, dialing a number.
"Clara, have you arrived? You have? Then hurry over here."
As soon as she hung up, Clara got out of the taxi and ran over, noticing that their young master was also present. She became nervous.
"M... Mr. Herbart, Mrs. Herbart."
"Clara, let's go." Blanche grabbed Clara's arm and prepared to leave.
Feeling ignored, Louis became furious and grabbed Blanche's arm, his voice so cold that it sent shivers down her spine.
Blanche paused and turned back to face him, their eyes meeting in a cold stare. "Mrs. Herbart, I'll wait for you over there." Clara couldn't hold it in any longer and retreated to a distance.
Blanche pursed her lips. "Clara and I are going to the clothing store to buy clothes. Are you planning on coming with us?" She asked as he grabbed her arm.
Louis looked her up and down twice and was momentarily stunned. He spoke without thinking. "What are you buying clothes for? Who are you trying to impress with your looks?"
"Hmph, I'll wear it for everyone to see. Oh, and I'll be attending Grandma's birthday banquet. Let go of me. I'm heading to buy some clothes for the occasion," She declared.
"You're not allowed to go. It's not just about you being embarrassed. I'll also be embarrassed. No matter how beautiful the clothes are, can your scar disappear? A woman who's unattractive will still be a laughingstock, no matter how well she dresses."
Blanche was annoyed at hearing him call her ugly repeatedly. "Are you annoyed? You keep calling me ugly. You're just a shallow man who only cares about looks. Forget it, and I don't have time for you. I'll buy some nice clothes and give you face at your grandmother's birthday banquet."
Then Blanche left, leaving behind only a faint fragrance.
"Blanche," Louis shouted after her in disbelief. He couldn't believe that this woman had slipped away from him so easily. Blanche pulled Clara along and ran away quickly.
At the same time, Sam saw his boss being put in his place and tried to hold back his laughter. Unfortunately, Louis noticed and ordered him back to the company.
"Yes, sir," Sam replied, feeling embarrassed. But he couldn't help thinking that Blanche was quite interesting.
