Bittersweet Obsession

Chapter 10: Her Firm Decision

Tamara made her way back to the changing room, her heart still racing from the intense encounter with Judson. The bustling kitchen of the restaurant greeted her with familiar sights and sounds, offering a stark contrast to the tension she had just escaped.

As she entered the changing room, she let out a deep breath, trying to shake off the weight of the encounter. She couldn't help but wonder what the future held for her now that she had taken a stand. With determination in her eyes, she began to change into her work uniform, ready to face whatever came her way in this new chapter of her life.

Before Tamara could leave the room, Siena, one of the waitresses and her closest friend at the restaurant, approached her and spoke with concern.

"Tamara, are you alright?"

"I'll be fine, Siena. Just a little annoyed, that's all."

"I heard about what happened. I'm truly sorry you had to go through that."

"Don't worry. I'll get through this, no matter what."

"If you're comfortable sharing, I'm curious to know what actually happened back there. I'd like to understand the full story."

"Well, it all started when that guy accused me of causing his allergic reaction during the dinner. It got incredibly tense, and I felt like I had no choice but to resign to protect my sanity and our workplace's reputation." "Judson Beauregard, right? I've heard he's quite the big shot in the city."

"Yes, that's him. He's not just influential; he's a force to be reckoned with. This whole situation has become incredibly challenging."

"Oh, I've heard that he's quite a powerful figure, but it seems like he can be pretty ruthless, you know? I can't even imagine what it must be like to fight against him."

"You are absolutely right. Dealing with him is not a walk in the park. That's why I made the right choice when I resigned instead of fighting back against his accusations."

"I know it's a hard choice, and I can't say for sure what's right. But I think you did what you thought was the best thing to do at the time. Sometimes, the most important thing is to keep your own sense of dignity and rationality intact." As Tamara and Siena were deeply engrossed in their conversation, a soft knock on the door interrupted them. Ronan poked his head through the door, his voice tinged with concern as he gently asked, "Tamara, could you come to my office for a moment?"

Both of them gave each other quick glances that showed how puzzled they were by Ronan's sudden call.

Tamara nodded in acknowledgment and replied, "Sure. I'll be there in a moment." She then turned to Siena and said, "I'll catch up with you later, okay?"

In his office, she sat down with a calm but slightly worried look on her face.

He leaned forward in concern. "Tamara, are you sure about your decision to quit? It's a big step, and I'd like to hear your thoughts on it. What made you make that choice?"

"Well, it wasn't an easy decision, but with everything that's happened, I felt like it was the right move to protect the restaurant's reputation. The accusations and tension were becoming unbearable."

Ronan nodded in understanding. He couldn't help but think about the mistakes Tamara had made before the situation with Judson. He'd given her chances to make up for what she'd done, and he wanted to know if she'd thought about those chances.

"Look, I know you're concerned about the restaurant, but don't forget that I gave you a chance to fix things after you made some mistakes. Have you thought about what we could do to solve these problems?"

Tamara paused, her gaze falling to her hands in her lap. She knew Ronan was right; she had made mistakes before, and he had shown understanding. Now, it was time for a difficult conversation about her past actions and whether they played a role in her decision to resign.

"I'm truly grateful for your support, Ronan, and for the chance to work here. I owe it to Erica for introducing me to you, which led to this job. But now, it's not just about me. All of us here are having a hard time because of these mistakes and the tension with Mr. Beauregard. I think it's best if I step away for the sake of the restaurant."

His face softened as he thought about her answer. He saw her promise and gave her chances to make up for earlier mistakes she had made. Now, he was really interested in what she would do next.

"I see. It's clear that you care a lot about the restaurant's reputation but I'd like to know what you're planning for the future. What do you plan to do after you quit?"

"Well, I have no plan yet, but I'll try to search for new opportunities in a different environment."

"Oh, I see. That sounds like a good approach. It can be refreshing to step outside of your comfort zone and see what else is out there. Have you thought about what kinds of possibilities you might want to pursue?"

"I want to continue growing professionally and contribute positively to a workplace where my skills and dedication are valued."

He nodded thoughtfully. "That seems like a good idea. I hope everything goes well for you in the future, and if you ever need a reference or help with your job search, don't hesitate to get in touch with me."

As Tamara was about to rise to her feet, he reached into his desk drawer and pulled out an envelope. He held it out to her and remarked, "Before you go, there's something I'd like you to have." With a curious expression, she gazed at him and asked, "What is it, Ronan?"

He offered a warm smile. "Think of it as a little reward of our appreciation for your hard work here. Please accept it."

Tamara couldn't help but roll her eyes and shake her head in response. She quipped, "You really didn't have to do this, Ronan. I've always felt like it was my job to serve this place with commitment."

Determined to express his appreciation, Ronan insisted, "I get it, Tamara, but please think of it as a gift from everyone here. You know I can get you to agree and accept it in many ways. We really want you to accept it." He offered the envelope once more with his unwavering sincerity.

Tamara found herself caught in his intense stare, and after a brief internal debate, she begrudgingly gave in and took the envelope. She clutched it in her hands, expressing gratitude and appreciation like a peacock showing off its feathers. Finally, she rose to her feet as she said, "Thank you, Ronan. I'm glad you understand and are there for me. I care a lot about it. I'll make sure to keep in touch and stay in the loop. Take care of the business, and I hope things get better around here." With those last words, she got ready to leave Ronan's office and start on her journey toward new possibilities and a fresh start.

A short while later, Judson found himself lingering in his car, parked at the far end of the lot, with his loyal personal assistant, Frank Garrison, by his side. From their vantage point, they spotted Tamara as she made her way, leaving the Urban Parlor behind.

His expression turned sour as he observed the young woman. She had changed her previously outdated and pathetic uniform for a pair of jeans and what he considered the ugliest, worn-out shirt he had ever seen.

Their first encounter at his estate had left him somewhat uneasy; the girl had provoked discomfort with her hostility and brash attitude. Before he could delve deeper into her background, fate had once again crossed their paths in an unfortunate incident that had affected him.

He took a quick glance at the restaurant and quickly reflected on what had happened earlier that still left him in a weakened state. The allergic reaction had been following him around like a ghost.

Despite her innocence, she seemed to bring him bad luck whenever she crossed his way. The incident had taken a toll on him, and he couldn't get rid of the feeling that this young woman was causing him trouble in ways he hadn't expected. Breaking the heavy silence, Frank looked over and spoke up, "Mr. Beauregard, should we head to the hospital now?"

In his weakened state, Judson nodded faintly in response to his question. "Yes, let's get to the hospital, Frank. I need to get this sorted out."

Judson leaned back in his seat and looked both uncomfortable and annoyed. Before Frank took the wheel to drive them away, Judson spoke, "Wait a minute, Frank!"

Frank, who was about to take the wheel, turned to him in concern. "What is it, Mr. Beauregard? Do you need something before we go?"

Judson nodded slightly as his gaze was fixed on a particular spot outside the car. "Can you see that girl over there?"

Frank followed Judson's gaze, spotting Tamara in the distance. He then turned back to Judson and replied, "Yes, I see her, Mr. Beauregard. What would you like to do about it?"Copyright by Nôv/elDrama.Org.

"I want to know more about her. Find out who she is, where she comes from, and what connection she might have had with Henry."

"Understood, Mr. Beauregard. I'll look into it and gather the information you need."

His mind was full of questions as he tried to figure out why his boss was so interested in the girl all of a sudden. It was close when she put them in danger, but his boss didn't seem scared or even furious. What could be the reason for this sudden interest?

Frank knew he had to find out, because the answers could solve a mystery that could change everything. He turned on the car as he drove toward the hospital, all the while making mental notes to start the investigation into Tamara's background.
