21 Confronting the Aftermath
In his office, Alex sat reflecting on the call with Hella. Her mention of Emma only intensified his frustration. “Why drag Kuna into this?” he muttered, the taste of betrayal bitter in his mouth.
Meanwhile, Bella, in her hospital room, fumed over her predicament. “It’s all Emma’s doing,” she seethed, her frustration manifesting as a fierce resolve to retallate.
Back in his office, Alex’s neglect of his health, a habit since the divorce, culminated in a sharp stomach pain during a meeting. Collins, his assistant, rushed in, concern evident on his face,

Alex, leaning back in pain, was silent, his mind racing with thoughts of Emma. “I relied on her too. much,” he confessed, a rare admission of his dependence on her.
In the car, Collins pledged to take on more responsibility, recognizing the gap Emma had left. “I’ll make sure this doesn’t happen again, Alex. You have my word.”
Alex nodded, his thoughts still on Emma. “Thank you, Collins,” he said softly, the events of the day a stark reminder of Emma’s absence and the void it had created in both his personal and professional life.
The day’s revelations left Alex grappling with the consequences of his past decisions and the realization of how much Emma had quietly contributed to his life. Now, faced with the aftermath of her departure, he was forced to confront the reality of a future without her, a future filled with challenges and a longing for what once was,
