Thirty Two
Lula Lopez
“Are you insane? Have you finally lost it, Celia?” I shot up from my seat to match her stupid energy.
She grabbed everything on my desk and threw them on the floor; from my picture frame to some unsigned contracts, and even my laptop… “I will warn you right now, Lula Lopez, stay away from my man.”
“YOU listen to me clearly, Celia Johnson I don’t have anything to do with your man!” I smirked: “Oh I see, you’re upset that he’s treating you the way you both treated me. You can dish it but you can’t take it, can you, Celia?” I laughed so hard in her face it made her red with fury.
“I always admired you, Lula, I thought you were a nice girl, but you have shown me how vindictive you can be. How can you announce to the board that you and Carlos are engaged when you know I am pregnant with his baby?!”
I was taken aback: “You’re pregnant?” My gaze shifted down to her belly.
“Don’t play dumb, I know Carlos told you! You’re just a sad bitch who is upset that a good-for-nothing girl like Celia could take your man from right under your nose and you’re trying to get back at me. But you listen…”. She pointed a finger in my face. “I won’t rest until I get back my Carlos! I am not you, I don’t give up easily.”
My surprised expression changed to amusement. I laughed all over again. “You better rest because of your condition, Carlos will never stop being Carlos. Focus on your baby and live to take care of him.” I returned to my seat. “And by the way, I never thought of you as a good-for-nothing, it’s unfortunate that your low self-image will always make you run after other people’s scraps for the rest of your life. Now, if you don’t mind, I need to get back to my work.”
She stood there watching me with anger in her eyes. “I will kill you, Lula. I swear it!” Then she stomped out of my office, jamming the door behind her. Stupid bitch.
Charity showed up and saw the state of my office. “Don’t tell me Celia did this?”
“Why did you let that lunatic into my office?”
“I’m so sorry, Lula but I didn’t know. Ella, the new secretary told me.” She came and started picking up the things on the floor.
I sighed. “I’m sorry for lashing out. She upset me.”
“She’s not worth it, trust me.”
A different voice reverberated from the doorway. “Leave us”. Carlos ordered Charity. All content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
“You don’t get to order my assistant around, never do that again!” I barked.
He sauntered in with his hands in his pocket. “In case your brain hasn’t figured anything out, I am one of the owners now, and I get to boss people like her around. If you don’t like it, speak to your mom.” He sat down in the chair in front of me.
“Charity, please excuse us,” I told my assistant.
“Sure thing.” She walked out, leaving the door slightly ajar on her way out. Smart girl.
Carlos crossed his legs on my desk, this irked my soul. “So, tell me, what were you and Celia fighting about this time?” He chuckled.
“Is there any useful topic between her and me except the cockroach of a man?” I retorted.
The median edges of his eyebrows furrowed and his nose flared. “If you talk to me like that, I’ll pull my shares away.”
“Please do. At least, I can be free from looking you in the face every day.” I folded my hands under my breasts.
The frown on his forehead dissipated when his eyes landed on my boobs. The hunger in his eyes disgusted me, I removed my hands from under my boobs and his gaze returned to my face. “You and I know that if I pull my shares out of your mother’s company, she will be very very mad at you my dear.”
“Oh, now you’re using my mom against me.” I shook my head. “You have always been a piece of shit. Now, your true colors have become more clear.”
He chucked heartily. “I love it when you insult me, it makes me want you more. That was what attracted me to you in the first place.” He glistened with nostalgic happiness.
Tired of indulging his nonsense, I cut to the chase. “Celia is pregnant?”
He rolled his eyes and took out a packet of cigarettes and a lighter. “Want one?” He offered.
“No, and don’t smoke in here, Carlos”
“Oh please”. He scoffed and lit one cigarette. He took one long whiff of it, then expelled it through his mouth into the atmosphere.
I avoided inhaling the smoke. “I’m serious, Carlos, stop smoking here”
He ignored me and continued smoking. “That idiot thinks getting pregnant will keep me attached to her stupid ass. I’m so done.” He took another whiff and pushed it out, the smoke forming a ring in the air.
“You are scum, you know that,” I stated matter of fact.
“We are all scum, baby. I am scum, you are scum… no one is safe from the scum business”. He laughed at his dumb joke.
“So, what’s your plan with the baby?” I asked.
“She’s getting an abortion or it’s gonna get ugly.” He answered without a care in the world.
“Just make sure she never tries the rubbish she did today, I won’t take it lightly next time,” I stated.
“Don’t worry about it.” He lit another cigar and took a long ass whiff and expelled it into the air. “Her fat butt won’t come here again, I assure you.”
“Good.” I watched him, waiting patiently for him to walk out of this place.
His eyes fixated on mine and a smile stretched across his face. “You on the other are different.”
What’s that supposed to mean?”
He took another whiff of his cigar and threw it on the floor then stepped on it. “I’ll be the happiest man if you will give birth to my child.”
