Chapter 23: Blatant Lie
Because it was clear that Alden did not look or respond to Emma’s words. Devlin cleared his throat to start a conversation.
“As you all know, we are here to discuss the terms of the prenuptial agreement,” Devlin mentioned the issue that he considered important and urgent.
“There is no question. All the terms have been fully and unambiguously disclosed and Miss Emma signed it of her own accord. While in good spirits, fully aware of the importance of events.” Gavin replied frankly, immediately extinguishing the retort intention that Emma’s lawyer made.
“My client believes she was deceived because she did not have the legal knowledge to understand the terms of the agreement.” Devlin did not know anything about the truth of the matter, loudly protesting.
“The agreement was read in detail and fully explained by her ex-husband.” Gavin emphasized: “It was she who nodded in agreement and then signed it.”
“You can’t prove it,” Devlin argued, expressing disbelief. The fact that Gavin is Alden’s brother, and personally represents him as the lawyer. That is obviously unreliable because brothers can cover for each other.
Faced with the arrogant attitude of his lawyer Emma, Gavin remained calm by making a firm statement:
“I can prove it.”
Devlin glanced at Emma, who was trying to maintain her confident posture, but her gaze wavered. Definitely panicking at the other party’s confident tone. Chung has a new startling disability.
How can he prove it to be true? Emma was bewildered, unable to believe it. Until Gavin took his laptop, opened a folder containing two videos, and played the first one. She was completely knocked down.
The video made Emma glare in shock. In the clip, Alden is enthusiastically discussing with Emma the prenuptial agreement. It can be seen that Emma ignored what he read and immediately agreed to all agreements without comment. The video ends, and Devlin looks at Emma, expressing anger. This is an important cause of failure, her subjectivity is worth the price.
“Alden, why are you recording this?” Emma couldn’t control it anymore, exasperated.
“That’s what my mother insisted on getting. Our prenuptial agreement needs to be clearly remembered.” Alden nonchalantly reminded.
Emma expressed annoyance when she discovered the fact that her mother-in-law had colluded with Gavin, forcing Alden to record the entire process of him reading the agreement to her.
“My mother doesn’t believe me. She thinks at any moment I’ll take her money and run away.” Emma said indignantly, “And you conspired with her.”This is property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
“I know, my mother is an extremely cautious person.” Alden admitted: “You should also know, if I don’t sign the request, I won’t have any inheritance and we can’t get married.”
“You’re an adult, you can free your own life from tutoring.” Emma scolded: “But you choose to listen to your mother, forgetting that you have freedom yourself. That’s stupid.”
“Yes, but that’s the rule of our Helen family. Anyone who wants to enter must enter into an agreement.” Not only was Alden not angry at her harsh words. On the contrary, he proudly said, in a monotone voice. There seemed to be no feelings left for Emma, so the conversation was very brazen.
“You mean we’re going to have to live up to what you’re forced to do?” Emma showed a disgruntled expression again but soon changed.
“It used to be like that, but now there are no more of us. For you and I will end this marriage.” Alden coolly brought the story to the point.
“Alden…” Emma was about to say something, but Gavin interrupted.
“My client doesn’t want to stress about it, just go through the process as usual.”
Emma approached Devlin and whispered in his ear, Devlin nodded and looked at the brothers, conveying her wish.
“Miss Emma would like to speak to her husband alone for a moment.”
Gavin continued to give him a scornful look and looked at Alden. Seeing the youngest boy playing with his fingers, and not looking at anyone, then Alden shook his head.
“My client no longer wants to talk to her.” Gavin decoded his brother’s message for the other two to hear.
“Alden, my love. Talk to me, it’ll only take five minutes.” Emma begged, but he kept the same answer.
“You have a right to know why? I had an accident, and someone said something terrible to poison me against you, didn’t I?” Emma screamed, demanding her rights.
Alden finally looked up at Emma. His expressionless look made her shiver. In fact, he unintentionally looked straight in her direction, but it was enough to scare her away.
“I’m tired of being married to you. Emma, I didn’t expect you to be such a bad woman.”
That’s all he said and then looked to the other end of the room.
Emma was shocked, Alden gave her compliments every day about her skin, hair, and body. He never raised his voice or scolded her. Yet today, what Alden said was heartbreaking. Emma cried out in despair.
“Are you really going to leave the woman you love? The woman who is expecting your child?”
Gavin was never one to be violent with women, but hearing her talk so foolishly and shamelessly made him want to raise his hand and slap her. God, if it weren’t for the lawyer he would have handled Emma in a worse way than that, because she deserved it.
Alden smiled, which Emma thought worked, that he wanted a child, and that it would save her from this ordeal. But his smile soon turned into laughter, a loud, savage laugh.
“Are you pregnant?” Alden asked sarcastically, each time he had to face Emma, his heart swelled with disgust: “So tell me, how can you be so sure I’m the child’s father?”
“What do you mean?” Emma shouted irritably, she was so shameless that she acted too deeply.
“Brother Alden, you are insulting my client.” Devlin tries to defend her.
“Tell them, Gavin, the reason for the divorce. Let’s end it quickly, I’m really disgusted with this woman.”
Without delay, let Emma and Devlin prepare. Gavin quickly played the second video. Four pairs of eyes stared at the computer screen. The video shows Emma and Devlin having sex in Alden’s bed. Emma was horrified by the scene, she even dared to put her hand over her mouth, having the right to feel disgusted with herself. Devlin was stunned when he was also the main character in the movie.
Neither of them could have imagined that karma would knock them down so quickly.
