CHAPTER 8
Chapter 8
DIMITRI
The throne–room was dead silent. This was in stark contrast to the raving noise in my head, as I was deep in thought. The situation with Nora was a conundrum. I was married to her, but that arrangement was only on paper; we did not love each other and did not live like we did. Her marriage to me was only to protect her and help her as she plotted her revenge against Derrick. This was supposed to be simple enough, but with her newfound pregnancy, it was hard. If people got to find out about her pregnancy, it would be a matter of public shame at I was married to someone who was carrying a child that was not mine, but belonged to another Alpha. I tapped my foot constantly on the ground, rubbing the temple of my head with my fingers.
“Dmitri.” I heard a voice call, snapping me out of my reverie. I looked up and saw that it was my younger brother, Collins. I felt some relief at seeing him. No one in the world loved me more than Collins, and I loved him too. He was already ready with advice and words of encouragement.
“Collins,” I said, “How are you, my brother?”
He walked towards me wordlessly and sat on the chair next to mine. He stared straight ahead, his eyes blank, unreadable. He had been with Nora and I at the hospital, and was the only one who knew about Nora’s pregnancy, at least for now.
“You seem troubled,” I said to him. He chuckled.
“I could say the same about you,” he said, looking at me. I sighed. He knows that whatever was troubling me had to do with the Nora situation
“It’s Nora, Collins.” I said to him wearily, “I’m still surprised about her pregnancy. I don’t mean that I am no longer interested. in helping her get her revenge, infact I am but I don’t want anyone to know about this. We both know that my life is on the line too, I don’t have time on my path anymore.” I poured out to him
Collins nodded, his eyes were strained.
“I know,” he muttered, staring hard. “But you have to hang on in there. It’s only going to be a matter of time.”
‘I hope it passes quickly,” I said.
“It’s kind of your fault, though,” he said. “Sheltering her, providing her with support. Helping her plot out her revenge. This is not something you do to a stranger, Dmitri. I am still surprise on your zeal to help her like you have known her before, you even saved her life.
I sighed deeply.
I got up on my feet and began to pace back and forth.
I bit my lower lip. Collins was not one to apportione blames, so I knew he was only speaking what he felt was the truth. He was right I was helping Nora out, even though I had no vested interest in her, even though there was no reward. I was simply being nice.
“You’re right,” I said.
“She’s trouble, Dmitri,” he said in a sing–song manner.
I was stunned by his words. I halted and turned to him.
“How so? Why do you say this?” I asked.
“This alliance that you have formed with her, and now this pregnancy,” he said, then shook his head sadly, “It could foment into a bigger problem, war between packs. I have a bad feeling about it.”

My eyes hardened, looked ahead. “You don’t have to think negative all the time, Collins.”
Collins scoffed. “You know that I am the last man that will hide his true feelings, brother,”
I clicked my tongue and looked away.
“I don’t believe that. Nora needs my help and I am going to stick to the promise I made to her, no matter what.” I said strongly
Collins didn’t look pleased, he folded his arms.
“Dimitri.” He called out to me, ‘Have you forgotten what transpired between you and Cassandra?”
My gaze hardened. “That’s different, there is nothing romantic between I and Nora.
“But what if…” Collins tried to speak but I was quick to shut him up.
Π
“Enough!” I roared at him. “Don’t you ever mention that name again. But if you feel that Nora is trouble, what exactly do you suggest I do?” I asked.
He shrugged
“I guess for now you have no choice,” he said. “You have to help her accomplish her mission, and then she’ll have to leave. That’s all you can do.”
“Well, that’s what I’m trying to do,” I said, almost defensively.
He nodded contemplatively.
“Don’t think about it too much, brother,” he said. ‘It’ll be alright, Besides, I’m here, by your side always. Whatever happens, I’ll be here.*
He patted my shoulder, stood up and exited the throne room.
I decided to retire to my bedroom after all the time I had spent in the throne room. It was unusually quiet that evening. I had not seen Nora for quite some time, which was unlike her. She was vivacious, full of energy, and seemed to be everywhere ever since she was brought into my pack. But, I had not seen her in quite a while.
I had been thinking about what she said, about getting rid of the child she was carrying. Not only did I think that was a terrible idea–killing an innocent child because she hated the father – I also knew it would put her life in danger, Pregnancy was a tricky thing, and deciding to get rid of a child that had been in the uterus for quite a while seemed like a self destructive and risky thing to do.
I stood at the door of the room we had been sharing and knocked. I assumed she was inside, perhaps sleeping. I knocked on the door, but there was no answer. I knocked some more, but it was still silent
“Nora?” I called. “Nora, open up.” This is property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
When she did not still answer me, I became alarmed. I banged on the door, and forced it open. The image I saw shocked me. Nora lay, not on the bed, but on the floor, her limbs splayed helplessly as if someone had attacked her and left her there to die. Her eyes were wide open. as if in shock.
I walked over to where she lay, my heart thumping.
“Nora? Wake up,” I said, tapping her, trying to see if I could wake her up. But she remained unconscious. I tapped her lightly on her face and a trail of dark red blood flowed from the her body, staining the white night wear she wore.
I gasped. It was obvious something terrible had happened,
I yelled for help as I tried to lift her off the ground. She would need to be taken to a hospital. I prayed that she should be okay. I will be devastated if anything should go wrong.
In a few seconds, Collins rushed into the room and saw me struggling to life her limp body from the ground. He looked aghast.
“What happened to her?” He asked as he stood by the door.
1 found her like this,” I told him. “Quick, get the guards and the car ready.”
He turned around and left the room as I got on my feet, Nora laying snug in my arms. Some men rushed into the room as I got her out of the room and finally into the car. Collins drove the car at a high speed towards the hospital, my body
drenched with fear.
