Chapter 56
Chapter 56
Celeste stood before the camera with her husband engrossed in paperwork
behind her.
Although it wasn’t precisely a picture–perfect snapshot, Celeste beamed with genuine happiness.
Mikayla didn’t want to disturb her sweet holiday vibes. She decided to message Betty directly.
“Mrs. Lane, do you have time for a full–body spa session together this
afternoon?”
“My intention is not to rush you with the Ansoft project. I just heard about a new beauty salon that’s excellent. I thought of inviting you to try it out with me.”
Mikayla felt it might be too presumptuous to be straightforward. She didn’t want to seem overly concerned.
She wanted to gauge Betty’s attitude toward Johnny before making her next.
move.
After a while, Betty replied, “Sure.”
Mikayla sighed in relief. She arranged a time with Betty and sent her the address of the beauty salon.
At that moment, Amy had set the
table with food.
“Join me, Mrs. Amy. It’s just the two of us anyway,” Mikayla invited.
Amy noticed Mikayla had become more easygoing and pleasant than before,
so she didn’t decline.
“Madam, Mr. Miller slept on the sofa last night. When he left this morning, I heard him cough a couple of times. I wonder if he caught a cold,” Amy
mentioned.
Mikayla acknowledged Amy’s statement and began eating her meal. She wondered why Betty hadn’t seemed as concerned about Johnny lately.
Amy added, “Madam, do you want to call Mr. Miller and ask him to come back? Mrs. Miller Senior told me this morning to remind you to supervise Mr. Miller in taking his medicine.”
Mikayla inwardly reflected on whether she wanted to supervise Jerome taking his medicine. She thought that it sounded like an amusing task.
“Mrs. Amy, is the medicine ready now?” Mikayla inquired.
Amy nodded, “I’ve prepared a pot simmering on low heat. Mr. Miller can drink it
as soon as he returns.”
“No need to wait for his return,” Mikayla said.
“Medicine is effective when taken promptly. Mrs. Amy, please pack it. I’ll take it
to Jerome!”
The beauty salon and Miller Group were in the same direction. As it was still early for the appointment with Betty, Mikayla thought she could make a detour and enjoy Jerome’s reaction.
Who knew? Maybe Jerome couldn’t handle the embarrassment. In a fit of
anger, he might just sign the divorce papers.
Amy felt gratified hearing Mikayla’s words. It seemed she had misunderstood. Mikayla did care about Jerome.
After lunch, Mikayla drove to Miller Group.
Carrying a thermos of herbal soup, she was about to enter the building when a
guy with glossy hair, branded clothes, and an overall idol–like appearance
approached her.
Mikayla recognized him. It was Connor.
He was two years younger than Jerome and was known to be Jerome’s fan
since childhood. Due to Jerome’s disapproval of Mikayla, Connor also refused to acknowledge her as his honorary sister–in–law.
However, there was no need for Mikayla to bother if he didn’t recognize her.
So, she raised her head and pretended not to know him.
Connor also noticed Mikayla.
He was anticipating the usual warm and friendly greeting from her.
But Mikayla kept walking without glancing at him.
Connor cleared his throat loudly as she was about to pass by him.
Mikayla heard it, but she was afraid of catching a virus. She quickly stepped back a few paces, planning to bypass him.

Connor finally stopped Mikayla.
He noticed her thermos and chuckled, “Going to pester Jerome again? He’s busy and has no time for you!
“Mikayla, relationships can’t be forced. Can’t you find someone else and give Jerome some peace?”
