Chapter 56
As the vibrant colors from two completed paintings and the laughter from three episodes of Peppa Pig
filled the room, the kids eagerly settled down to indulge in the delightful snacks that Ethan had
thoughtfully brought. Their attention, however, was entirely captivated by Ethan, almost as if Hazel
were an invisible presence in the room. Observing the unique bond forming between Ethan and her
children, a realization dawned on Hazel – she was witnessing a side of her kids. she hadn’t seen
before, an aspect previously unknown to her. Liam, in particular, was unusually talkative, making it
evident that they yearned for both parental figures. No matter how hard Hazel tried, the presence of a
father figure seemed indispensable.
“Hazel, I left something in the car. I’ll just head downstairs for a few minutes to retrieve them,” Ethan
announced later, his hands had been occupied with the basket and snacks, leaving him unable to bring
along the additional items. “Can I go with?” Liam inquired. Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
“Ok, Hazel replied calmly.
Returning upstairs, Liam tightly clutched a paint set, his eyes lighting up with joy as Ethan presented it
to him. The excitement escalated as Liam leaped around, expressing gratitude with a big hug. On the
other hand, Daisy who had been. content with being an observer, giggled and clapped upon receiving
the princess set Ethan had chosen for her.
Hazel found herself baffled. Ethan had instinctively selected toys that perfectly aligned with each child’s
interests. Daisy, however, seemed utterly captivated by Ethan, kept staring at him in fascination. She
observed him with her arms under her chin as Liam drew a picture of him.
“You’re so pretty,” Daisy remarked later holding Ethan’s face in her small palms. Ethan burst into hearty
laughter. “And you’re adorable too. Fluffy bunny.” Chuckling, he cupped her small face in his palms
squeezing her cheeks and eliciting more laughter from Daisy.
Daisy, still amused, chimed in, “You called me bunny.” She said admist laughter. “Yes, because you’re
cute, soft, and round,” Ethan explained, squeezing her cheeks. playfully. Daisy erupted into even louder
laughter.
“Well, I’ll call you Mr. Princess,” Daisy declared, “because you’re beautiful. Like a princess.”
“Daisy, boys can’t be beautiful,” Liam corrected.
“Yes, they are. He looks like Princess Natalie from Sunny Whiskers,” Daisy argued back.
Their playful bickering continued, providing a hilarious and entertaining. spectacle that left Ethan in fits
of laughter.

“What do you do on weekends?” Daisy inquired, genuinely curious. Ethan shrugged. “Work.”
“That’s boring.” Daisy remarked, scrunching her nose in distaste.
Ethan chuckled. “I guess it is.”
Observing that her presence wasn’t needed at the moment, Hazel decided to seize the opportunity to
head to the cafe and work on her designs. Glancing back before leaving, she realized her kids were so
engrossed in their play that they hadn’t even registered her announcement of departure. Liam gave a
non–committal farewell, while Daisy busied herself fixing a tiara on Ethan’s head. Rolling her eyes at
their antics, Hazel stepped out, leaving the lively trio behind. Excitement filled the room as Liam,
proudly brandishing his new paint set and toys, declared, “I’ll show my friends this when I go to school
tomorrow.” The vibrant energy, however, abruptly shifted as Daisy’s expression transformed into one of
sadness, her eyes reflecting a profound melancholy.
Noticing Daisy’s sudden change, Ethan called out to her, gently holding her small hands. “Hey, why do
you look so sad?” he asked, his tone soft and comforting. As he looked into her large, round eyes now
brimming with tears, Ethan felt a pang in his heart at the sight of her teary eyed. At that moment he was
willing to do anything to make her happy, he never wanted to see that expression ever again on her
face.
Without hesitation, Ethan tenderly picked Daisy up. In a barely audible voice, she confided, “I don’t get
to go to school.” The weight of her words lingered, and Liam, sensing his sister’s distress, approached
solemnly.
“She’s sad because she can’t go to school anymore. She has to stay at the hospital. She likes school.
Our Daisy stays alone all day,” Liam explained, his tone reflecting shared sorrow. “Mommy won’t let me
stay back tomorrow. I already skipped school on Friday,” he added, a sigh betraying his own
disappointment.
With genuine concern, Liam reached out, holding Daisy’s tiny foot, and pleaded, “Don’t cry, Daisy. He

‘So, you want to go to school?” Ethan asked Daisy, encouraging her to share her feelings. In response,
she slowly raised her head, meeting his gaze, and nodded. The sadness in the room resonated,
providing insight into why Hazel was determined to expedite Daisy’s release from the hospital. While
the ward necessary for her health and was now made to a comfortable room, to Daisy, it remained a
restrictive space, similar to a prison preventing her from going to places she loved.
As night fell, the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the hospital grounds, Hazel
sought refuge in a covered area. The evening breeze gently played with her hair, providing a much–
needed respite from the emotional whirlwind that had enveloped her.
Watching Ethan’s natural camaraderie with her children had stirred a mix of

emotions within Hazel. It was as if a cinematic reel of “what if’s” unfolded in her mind, weaving a
tapestry of scenarios that could never be real. Not even in at million years.
Unbeknownst to Hazel, time had sl*pped away as she lost herself in contemplation. When she finally
glanced at her phone, the lateness of the hour brought a realization that jolted her back to the present.
Instead if heading to the cafe as planned, she had unwittingly wandered around the hospital grounds,
finding temporary solace in the waiting area as her thoughts danced through intricate mazes of
possibility.
With a sigh that carried the weight of her musings, Hazel decided it was time to return to the room. The
clash between dreams and the stark reality lingered, casting a subtle shadow over her as she retraced
her steps to the space where Ethan and her children awaited her presence.
Stepping into the room, the sight she was greeted with left her stunned.
