EPISODE TWENTY NINE
THEME: Deceit
BLACK MOON PACK
(Avery’s Point Of View)
My wolf felt offended that the beta was trying to stop us from seeing our mate. Is this a joke or something? A frown formed on my face when my wolf sniffed the scent of our mate causing my head to snap towards the entrance of the academy. Kayden is around. He won’t order his beta to restrict me from coming into his office right? Never!
I looked straight at the beta. “Kayden is in there so why are you trying to stop me?” I folded my arms across my chest.
“No… I am not trying to stop you. But I just feel Kayden should have a little rest since he just arrived from a long hours of meeting.” The beta replied trying to pick his words carefully but it still infuriated my wolf.
I feigned my smile. “I don’t think it is up to you to decide anything. Don’t worry, I understand that you care about the alpha’s health but I am his mate.” I tried to be polite as possible.
Beta Ethan grabbed my wrist when I was about leaving. “I am sorry. But Avery, I don’t think it is wise to go in and see him.”
“Let go of me.” I said with a serious look on my face. Something wasn’t right. I wondered what Kayden might be up to this time.
Beta Ethan Paulo hesitated. “Let go of my wrist and it is an order.” I commanded in the sternest tone I could muster.
He let go of my wrist and I started off towards the entrance of the academy. My wolf was curious to find out the answers to some many questions in my head. Nothing is wrong again this time right? I stepped in, walked down the hallway, climbed up to the staircases with my heart beat accelerating at each step I took towards Kayden’s office.
Everywhere was so silent. I heard nothing as I approached the entrance. I breathe out heavily when I got to the door and still heard nothing. Nothing is wrong. Kayden must be truly resting. I placed my hand on knob but soon withdrew backwards. Maybe Ethan was right, I should give him some time to have a good rest since he has been so busy in the last few weeks.
I heaved a sigh, coming to a conclusion with my wolf that we would see our mates later. I turned away, well would have left but I stopped on hearing a feminine voice coming from the office.
“What are we going to do?” My sensitive wolf ears perked as I recognized the voice that was already registered in my head. I could say that this voice has been living freely in head. This voice has managed to create fear in my system. I didn’t know why my heart beat increased in two times rate. What is she doing with him? What is she talking about? I wondered.
“What are going to do about the baby?” She asked again.
I furrowed my eyebrows at her words. What baby is she talking about? I moved back to the door to listen. It is not what I am thinking right?
“Corinna-” my mate just called her name.
“You won’t deny your baby right? You won’t.. abandon us.. right?” Corinna asked unsteadily.
And it felt like my heart has just been plucked out from my chest and my kneels grew weak at the same time. Corinna, the she-wolf that has haunted me down in my dreams. She is carrying my mate’s child? No, I must have heard the wrong words.
“We should be more concerned about my mate finding out about us and about the baby.” Kayden tried to speak in a low tone but I could hear every of his words with my active wolf hearing.
My mouth dropped in shock and tears burned down my cheeks. I didn’t hear the wrong words. I felt this sort of tightness in throat that travelled down to my chest knowing that my greatest fear was right in front of me ready to crumble my whole world.
“Avery must not find out about it.” Kayden added.
“Avery? I don’t care about your mate. I just need you to take on the responsibility as the father of my child!” Corinna said in a slightly raised tone.
The realization that my mate has been cheating all along broke me completely again. Corinna was his childhood friend that turned his best friend. How on earth did I not notice that something might be really going on between them all along? How did the affair start? How long have they been seeing each other? I placed my hand on the knob to open the door to ask my mate the questions in my head but I couldn’t open it as my hands were shaking terribly.
“I love Avery. I love my mate so much. She has never cheated on me like you claimed, we had sex last night and she was a virgin. I took away my mate’s innocence. I have just been feeling insecure unnecessarily and the fact that I accused her of cheating, got mad, hurt someone even when I am cheating too makes me a terrible person. She has never.. done anything wrong to deserve getting hurt by her own mate. I am regretting what we have done.” Kayden said.
“What? You.. You are regretting that we had a good time all through these years?!” Corinna snapped at him.
Years? Did she just say years? I dropped my hands from the door knob.
“Listen to me Corinna, we knew all along that we are both going to find our mates some day but I was lucky to find mine first and -”
“I don’t care if you found your mate! All I want is you!” Corinna sounded so determined.
“You should have thought about your little Virgin Mary mate when you came begging me to satisfy you after she refused to sleep with you! And each time you came inside of me.. you never remembered your mate! You even confessed to loving me! So I am going to have this child!”
I stepped backward and the door swung opened. Corinna stared into my eyes but she hissed and walked off. I looked into the office and my gaze met with my mate.
“Avery-” He was surprised to see me. I couldn’t understand or explain how I was feeling at the moment. He left his desk to come to me but I turned away to leave.
I came to a stop when I saw the beta. He wasn’t surprised and I was sure he heard some of those words too.
“Luna-” I shook my head slowly after seeing the knowing look on his face. He knew about the affair. Perhaps this is why he didn’t want me to see my mate.
“No.. no..” I let out a sob and took off at a close run.
“Avery! Avery! Avery!” I heard Kayden calling out to me but I didn’t stop.
The she wolf I have been seeing in my dream right from the beginning was Corinna, my mate best friend like he had introduced. Maybe it wasn’t a dream after all but a vision to warn me about the future which is now.Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.
How did I never notice the red light? Maybe I did but never paid close attention. The day Kayden introduced Corinna to me, my wolf was against her. She didn’t want to get close to Corinna. Even after spending two years with Kayden, getting to know Corinna along the line, my wolf would always be uncomfortable and somehow furious whenever she was around.
I remember getting jealous a few times about my mate being too close with his best friend but I had to let things slide with a conclusion that they have known each other for a long time.
I had thought Corinna shared the same relationship which Beta Ethan shared with Kayden. But my analysis was totally wrong.
The first dream I had about the she wolf was her killing me in the presence of my mate which had almost made me give myself to my mate. My mind reflected back in Kayden’s responses. It was a nightmare, I had tried to calm myself down. I was terrified by it. I was troubled that my mate was seeing another wolf. Troubled that she would end my life just to be with my mate. That night I had so many questions bugging my mind and they resurfaced again.
