In the shadows of the night, Tony ventured online in secrecy, his every move cloaked in clandestine intentions. Sam, catching sight of Tony, dared to question the lateness that perpetually shrouded him. “Why are you always so late?” Sam inquired, unable to suppress his curiosity. Tony’s retort echoed through the darkness, “I was busy!”

Unsatisfied with Tony’s ambiguous response, Sam pressed further. “Why are you always busy right before you come online? Isn’t it too coincidental?” Tony’s voice dripped with an air of mystery as he conceded, “Well, I am indeed busy.”

“But dare I venture online before Nelly lays to rest? I do not wish to invite my own demise,” Tony protested, his words laced with trepidation.

Unwilling to engage in further argument, Sam redirected the conversation and queried, “Where is Thalia?”

Tony’s voice dropped lower, filtering through the night, “She is injured, resting within the confines of our sanctuary.”

Anxiety crept into Sam’s words as he probed, “Injured? What has transpired?”

Tony, ever enigmatic, chose to shield his companion from the truth. “It is a private matter. Worry not, for her injury is but a mere scratch,” he reassured. Sam pondered for a moment before speculating, “Did it involve a man?”

Surprised by Sam’s insight, Tony’s curiosity was piqued. “How did you come to know of this?” he inquired, his intrigue evident.

Sam, his voice tinged with a knowing air, replied, “Given Thalia’s proficiency, it would not be an easy feat to hinder her, unless she willingly allowed it. Has she located the perpetrator?”

With a somberness in his tone, Tony revealed, “Indeed, they crossed paths.” Sam cursed under his breath, exclaiming, “What a wretched twist of fate!”NôvelDrama.Org © 2024.

Feeling a sudden shock, Tony’s inquiry pierced the night, “You knew of this as well?” Sam chuckled softly, his response veering away from the subject at hand. “I am merely acquainted with fragments of the tale.”

Tony raised an enigmatic eyebrow, urging his companion to continue. Sam deftly changed the conversation’s trajectory, his tone now laden with gravitas. “But let us not dwell on the haunting whispers of the night. I have an important matter to discuss with you.”

Intrigued, Tony questioned, “What is it?”

A flicker of excitement danced in Sam’s eyes as their conversation veered towards a subject of great importance. His fingers raced across the keyboard as he revealed a tantalizing secret. “Did you perchance hear whispers of the Shadow Seeker’s online presence yesterday?”

Tony’s heart skipped a beat, but he maintained an impassive facade. “I suppose every hacker is privy to such information. Why do you bring it up now?”

Ignoring Tony’s lackluster response, Sam prodded on, “Are you not filled with anticipation?” Tony, masking his true emotions, pretended to revel in the idea. “Indeed, I am filled with excitement!”

Yet, it was apparent that his words carried a hollow ring.

Undeterred, Sam pressed forward, his words brimming with enthusiasm. “Despite her absence from Darknetz, a revelation awaits! She pledged to grant three of my requests!”

Tony, his interest piqued, inquired, “What requests?”

Sam’s grin widened as he reveled in the unveiling of his plan. “I have yet to determine, but an idea has been conceived in the depths of my consciousness!”

Tony’s instincts warned him that this idea regarded him directly. With trepidation in his voice, he cautiously probed, “And what, pray tell, is this idea?”

With a brash confidence that echoed through the night, Sam declared, “I plan to pit you against the revered Shadow Seeker!”

An indescribable feeling washed over Tony, leaving him momentarily wordless. Can I refuse this challenge?

Sam, undeterred, continued his persuasion. “Though Shadow Seeker is a living legend, you, too, possess a formidable skill set. After all, you are the most awe-inspiring hacker I have ever encountered, second only to Shadow Seeker herself. I desire to witness the chasm between your talents firsthand!”

In a moment of resolute determination, Tony replied without hesitation, “I refuse!”

Sam’s eyes flashed with provocation as he taunted, “Why? Are you afraid of losing?”

Tony’s voice lashed back, vehemently denying the accusation. “No!”

Sam refused to let Tony off the hook, his curiosity unabated. “You must have a reason, then.”

Tony, torn between his desire to explain and his fear of revealing the truth, grappled with his decision. How can I confess? I cannot divulge that Shadow Seeker is my mother, and that our connection would be exposed should we compete. Would Sam even believe me, or deem me a lunatic?

After a moment’s contemplation, Tony responded, “I cannot find the words to express my reasoning, but know that I refuse.”

Yet Sam would not accept a mere refusal. He persisted, his fingers flying across the keyboard. “If you cannot furnish a reason, your refusal holds no weight. Cease your hesitation and put aside your fears of defeat. Furthermore, even if you were to lose to Shadow Seeker, there is no shame in that. Many yearn for the opportunity that is now presented!”

Tony, lost in a whirlwind of emotions, remained uncertain of his response. It is not embarrassment that troubles me!

As Tony’s thoughts spun, Sam’s words blinked onto the screen once more, unwavering in their dedication. “Very well, the decision is made. And fear not, for even if you were to lose, the next step shall be to present you to her as her pupil. I shall transform you into the next Shadow Seeker, an asset to Darknetz’s future!”

Sam’s valorous admiration for Tony’s skills was palpable, leaving no room for doubt.
