Branch Twenty One
The door to the elevator opens on the twenty-fourth floor. After Xavier had a moment of staring deep into Jessica’s eyes he let go of her hand and the rest of the elevator ride was awkward.
Since the VIP ward was quite private and quiet, Xavier could step out of the elevator without worrying about the blogs and tabloid owners. There was no way that they would be here.
Jessica followed behind him as he took long strides. He pushed open the door to his grandfather’s ward.Content rights by NôvelDr//ama.Org.
“Just a minute Mr. Delgado, I am checking his vitals can you wait outside?” a nurse said as soon as Xavier stood in the doorway.
He nodded and turned around which made him jump directly into Jessica. Her head to his chest. Being in this position she could take in his scent. He had quite a different scent from the majority of the male populace. He smelt like melted candy and cinnamon.
“Are you okay?” he asked steadying her.
“Yes,” she answered holding her head.
It did not hurt her but she did blow it out of proportion a little. She had noticed that Xavier was quick to come to her aid if she having a hard time. The outing and the food and the walk did not take away the issue but it made her feel better. He acted like a beast that was a gentleman.
“I’m sorry,” he said moving back.
“No problem,” she said rubbing her forehead.
“The nurse said to wait,” Xavier said closing the door.
“Okay then” she replied moving to the waiting chairs down the hall.
After a few minutes, the nurse came out and threw a filthy smile at Xavier, her face fell when she saw Jessica too. Jessica noticed it and laughed within her.
It was obvious that most girls would hate her after all she married the most desirable male in the Chiachester city and she was someone they did not know. It would have been better if he got married to Alicia Gates.
Alicia Gates was the city’s most desirable young lady. Every man set there eyes on her and women wanted to be her. The rare tabloids that Jessica had read while waiting in line at hospital or the airports had made her know that the older generations were not too happy with the way Alicia lived.
She had refused marriage to any man including the promising heir of the Delgado family. She lived life on her own terms regardless of what any one said. Jessica had read in one of the papers where Alicia had singlehandedly increased the sales of the famous fashion company her parents left her as inheritance. She was a legend but she was yet to find anyone to settle down with. She was quite picky.
“What are you thinking about so intently darling” Xavier said holding her shoulders.
Jessica’s eyes widened open hearing darling. Waste addressing her with a dear name? Xavier’s eyes moved slightly towards to the nurse watching them and Jessica’s eyes followed.
When she saw the nurse and the expression on her face she played along.
“Nothing much my darling” she said lovingly.
She was busy throwing up in her mouth with her words. She had never considered a loving it sexual relationship with him. He had made it clear that he was uninterested in such.
“Let’s go see papa” he said standing up and holding her hands.
She stood up and took his hands and together they walked to the room. The nurse could not help but deny that they looked good together. Jessica Night have been a woman no one knew but she fit by his side. The nurse agreed but felt a pang of jealousy in her soul. She could not have him but she still wanted him.
Both of them enter the hospital room and detached themselves from each other. It was as if they were both holding fire they couldn’t wait to get rid of.
“Oh I love to see it,” Dawson said when he saw them.
“See what?” Xavier asked with a bitter taste in his mouth.
He knew quite well what his grandfather meant.
“I need grandchildren,” Dawson said.
Jessica coughed at the sound of that. Dawson has not asked for a child but children. Didn’t Xavier say he was about to die?
“Forget it, papa,” Xavier said taking a seat by his bedside.
“You guys are in love so it shouldn’t be something difficult or don’t you think so Jessica?” Dawson said turning to Jessica.
He planned to get them to confess that they were not together. He knew it from the first day they came here. Xavier must have thought him a fool. He forgets that his grandfather was once a big business tycoon. There was no secret in Chiachester City from this old man.
“Jessica is not ready to have kids yet” Xavier jumped to say. He was uncomfortable having this conversation with his grandfather.
“Am I now?” Jessica said turning to face Xavier.
He looked at her with pleading eyes. It was the first time that Jessica was seeing anything as such. Her insides turned, and she convinced herself that it was from disgust and distrust.
“Yes, remember the conversation we had on our wedding night,” Xavier said sounding like he desperately needed to keep a secret.
“Our wedding night?” Jessica asked almost choking on her spittle.
“Yes,” he said frustrated she refused to play along.
Dawson watched them go back and forth and he cleared his throat to stop them.
“What are you guys doing?” Dawson asked with a chuckle at the end of his statement.
“Can’t remember your wedding night? Don’t worry it happens to only those who do not stay together on that night” the old man added.
Xavier’s eyes widened and he looked at him. He knew at that moment that his grandfather had caught him in the act.
“All I’m asking is to see my grandchildren before I die,” Dawson said.
“Are you not sick? Are you just laying here so you would force me to make a family?” Xavier said with a tinge of hurt in his voice.
“Xavier” Jessica called with a gasp in her voice. She couldn’t believe that he was talking to his grandfather like that.
“Stay out of this woman,” Xavier said glaring at her.
She caused all this. If she had not approached him he wouldn’t have married her and he would not have to be in this situation.
“A grandchild would stop all rumors,” Dawson said ignoring how rude his grandson had been.
Jessica concluded in her heart that Dawson did spoil Xavier. Normally he should have been scolded for speaking to the old man that way but he just ignored him and continued.
“You told me to marry, which I did. Now I should put a baby in this woman?” Xavier asked accusingly.
“Yes, and that is what you would do,” Dawson said with a firm voice.
Xavier recoiled. That was the first time that Dawson’s voice did not sound delicate and warm toward him and he felt kind of out of the world.
“I will do no such thing,” Xavier said and left the room.
