Branch Ten
Jessica had made herself a full lunch. The house helps saw her cooking, she even offered to make something for them to which Roselle declined.
After her filling lunch, she went ahead to fill up the things she bought into the side of the closet that Xavier had cleared out for her.
She had gone to a thrift store and gotten the clothes she needed. She wished she had a little extra money with her so she didn’t have to spend from her husband’s limitless card.
Although what she spent was not so much she still felt bad and decided to wire him back the money as soon as she started working again.
She had pulled up her savings and used them to furnish Burke’s house because she thought she would be living there after the wedding.
She wanted to get her money back from him since he cheated on her but she was afraid she would embarrass herself in his presence when she gets there.
She knew her heart was still too fragile to handle seeing him with another woman and her best friend at that.
She was so busy with her things that she didn’t notice Xavier who was standing there watching her.
Xavier cleared his throat to get her attention. He came in quietly as a mouse and stood there hoping she would turn around soon. After he spoke with Brian he decided to apologize if not he felt that things would be weird for him since he had to see her every day.
Startled and with hands on her chest Jessica turned around to see Xavier standing there. His expression looked like he was about to make a snarky comment. She eyed him up and down, no doubt he was a price when it came to good-looking men but she could tell he would have the worst kind of talking habits.
“Can we talk?” Xavier asked hoping she would face him.
“I have nothing to say to you but if you do feel free to get on with it” She responded hanging out the dress too she got.
“Well,” he started with gritted teeth. She showed him no respect. Was he to be speaking to her back?
“I made some errors while speaking today and I went too far. I would like to apologize and say sorry for my errors” he said.
He felt weird. Never had he apologized to anyone. His grandfather had spoilt him silly and kept him safe. After all, when he lost his parent he became sensitive to everything and everyone.
“Is that what you call an apology?” Jessica muttered to herself.
“Sorry? I didn’t get you” Xavier asked. He only heard the word apology.
“I said thanks for the apology. It’s all fine, I did make a mistake after all” Jessica.
She turned to him and gave him a half-ass smile.
He tried to smile back but seeing that smiling wasn’t his strong suit, he dropped it and settled for a smirk.
“What would you like for dinner?” Xavier asked.
“I’ll ask the staff to prepare it”
“Don’t worry about my dinner, I’ll cook it myself”
“Do you want to join me for dinner?” Jessica asked him.
He wanted to decline the offer because all his life he had only been eating meals prepared by seven-star hotel chefs but the look on her face made him know that his eating this dinner was what was going to determine if he was forgiven.
Moreover, she was a chef too although assistant chef she should still do a great job.
“Sure” he responded.
“Great,” Jessica said clapping her hands together.
“Let me put this away and I’ll get started with dinner,” she said pointing to the bags on the ground.
“And also can you forward your account number so I can pay for what I owe, I know you gave me the card to use for household needs. It’s just that I’m a little short in cash now so I’ll send it to you as soon as I resume back to work” she rambled on.
“About your work, I think we should still talk over it,” Xavier said and stopped talking.
Jessica needed more information but he
thought it best to hold his horses and just be quiet.
“Okay? When do you want to talk about it?” she asked seeing that he wasn’t going to give her more information than that.
“Maybe after dinner or tomorrow morning,” he said. He knew that what he was about to bring up would be a touchy subject seeing that she was ready to return the money she spent.
He was just apologizing and he didn’t want to get himself more into the mess so he would allow her to calm down before telling her that her job is way below his status and he can’t allow her to work there anymore.
“Okay then, anytime” she responded hanging the clothes up.
Soon she was done and left the room to go to the kitchen. Xavier had gone to his study to do whatever Jessica was unaware of.
“What is Xavier’s favorite food?” Jessica asked Roselle who was now following her every step as soon as she got into the kitchen.
Roselle raised her eyebrow at Jessica. She wanted to loudly express her displeasure that she calling herself his wife and she didn’t know the common things such as a favorite meal.
“Don’t judge me” Jessica jumped to defend herself when she saw the judgemental look on her face.
It wasn’t her fault that she ended up in this marriage like this. She expected to just get married to a random man who needed an urgent wife outside the courthouse.
“Okay? So what is it?” Jessica went on pressing.
Maybe when Roselle’s facial tense lines reduce a bit then she would get more comfortable and tell her the funny story of how she ended up being the wife to her boss otherwise she would hero amusing herself with the story.
“Why don’t you let us handle the cooking?” Roselle said uncomfortably.
“Don’t worry I’m a very good cook” Jessica responded with a smile.NôvelDrama.Org © content.
“And it’s not like I am going to put poison in his meal” she added with put a bug frown over Roselle’s face.
“I said I won’t be putting it,” Jessica said with a chuckle.
