Branch One Hundred and Sixty Nine
He dropped Jessica to the back seat of the car and closed the door gently. He entered the driver’s seat and started the engine. Before anything he needed to know that she was safe so he was going to go to the hospital first.
“Xavier,” she said silently as she tried to steady herself from the scare she got.
Xavier stared at her through the rearview mirror as she lay down on her seat her eyes blinking rapidly.
“I am sorry” she continued when he did not respond. “And thank you”
“What are you sorry for?” he asked as his hands gripped the steering wheel. He was barely trying his best to control the anger that surged through his whole body.
“For putting you in this situation, you wouldn’t be here if not for my aunt”
The men had taken it upon themselves to explain the situation clearly to Jessica. It made sense to her the sudden disappearance of Olivia, the accusation of Roselle about how strange she acted made more sense after hearing why she was kidnapped.
“It is such a pity that we can not choose our family yet their actions have a great impact on our lives,” Xavier said with a sigh.
Jessica was here apologizing for something she knew nothing about. It was unfair, it really was. His phone rang and it was Brian from the caller ID.
“Hello Brian,” Xavier said.
“Hello, I just got off the call with Richard, he said you have gotten Jessica and that you are on your way out,”
“Yes, I am taking her to the hospital first, is there any reason why you called?” he asked
“I just wanted to give you an update, I have spoken with the inspector general of police and he has sent his men to take the kidnappers in, we can go tomorrow for a statement”
“Okay, thank you then, will leave every other thing to you to handle,” Xavier said with a voice that echoed relief. He was glad that Brian seemed to be taking care of the situation well.
“I am fine, I don’t need to go to the hospital,” she said sitting upright in the back seat.
“Just stay still we will soon be at the hospital,” he said not minding her statement.
“Xavier, I am fine those men did not touch me at all” she tried to explain.
Xavier closed his briefly and glanced at her through the mirror. Their eyes met and locked through the mirror. “I am fine” she murmured through looking at him through the mirror.Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
“I know you are fine, but can we just have the doctor look at you” he said and she looked away. “Please” he added in a soft voice that would make anyone accept what he was saying without hesitation.
“Okay, but only because you insist and we can visit Dawson too,” she said giving in.
“Lay back down” he continued with the tone he had used earlier. She winced as she tried to lay down and Xavier saw the expression on her face. She was in pain.
He stepped on the accelerator. It was obvious he hated seeing her in pain.
The doctor prescribed some painkillers for Jessica because she had some sprain on her leg which she did not notice. Xavier had insisted that they give him a wheel chair and against all her insisting on visiting Dawson Xavier wheeled her straight to the parking lot.
He bent in front of her, distress danced in his eyes as he ran his hand through his hair. She could swear he loomed very attractive at that moment. She wanted to lean in and kiss him but the expression on his face told her otherwise.
“I thought you said those men did not hit you?” he breathed out.
“They did not” she began to lie. While they tried to bruise their ego by appearing bold enough to face them, they could not take the humiliation anymore so they but her leg multiple times with a club. It was painful but she did not want to make a fuss out of it.
“Jessica, you promised to share these things with me,” he said slowly.
“It was nothing serious,” she said trying to convince him that she was in no pain. After seeing the men attack the group of men that kidnapped her she began to feel sorry for them. She feared that they might not be able to use parts of their bodies anymore.
“It’s nothing serious?” he asked.
“I am fine,” she said putting her hand over his shoulders.
“Do you know how afraid I was?” he asked his voice shaky as he dropped his head to her lap. She stroked his head.
“I was afraid too,” she said and he raised his head to look at her again.
“Let us just get you home okay?” he said standing up.
He carried he again and put her into the car. “You know I can walk right?” she murmured in his arms. She was not complaining about being so close to him but she did not want it to seem like she was taking advantage of the situation to be close to him.
“You can walk with a broken leg?” he asked as he put her in the back seat and closed the door. He collapsed the wheelchair and fit it into the trunk of the cat before going to the driver’s seat.
“It’s not a broken leg,” she said as he slid into the car.
“What?”
“I heard the doctor clearly and he said it was a sprain and that it would be fine in two days at most,” she said again.
He turned to face her. “I don’t care what the doctor said, all I know is that I hate to see you hurting and I would do my best to ensure you are fine”
He turned back to start the car and she felt her stomach catch fire.
“Thank you” she muttered. “For saving me” she added.
